Forms Data Controls :: Can Set The Update Buttons In The Gridviews To Postback After Updating
Mar 21, 2010
I have multiple gridviews on one page that connect to the db with different sql datasources.
They each show records with differents "status's"(this is a column in my table). When you update the status on one record I'd like it to display straight away in the other gridview. At the moment I have to reload the page after the update in order to see the changes. Can I set the update buttons in the gridviews to postback after updating?
Note: Code is taken from this tutorial [URL] I currently have an editable gridview with only some columns editable by the user. In the background I want to record the time/date they have saved the data to the grid. This column 'Time' is not bound to the grid. Is there anyway I can still include this update when rebinding the newly edited data?
I'm also having a problem saving the updated data of my column ActivityTotal. I've been debugging that and following the variable, and it holds the correct value, but just doesnt seem to update. I am providing the codes below for both my gridview and the cs behind and would be grateful if someone could take a look, I assume it's a sort of minor sql issue on my part.
code
protected void UpdateButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { originalDataTable = (DataTable)ViewState["originalValuesDataTable"]; foreach (GridViewRow r in GridView_ABC.Rows) if (IsRowModified(r)) { GridView_ABC.UpdateRow(r.RowIndex, false); } // Rebind the Grid to repopulate the original values table. tableCopied = false; GridView_ABC.DataBind(); }
I have the example working but I added a Select Command to the Detail grid for the purpose of selecting a detail record which will redirect to another page. The problem is that when the Select command is clicked the expanded detail grid collapses as if I had clicked the minus. The page and codebehind are:
Anyway, on the inner grid I am allowing the user to delete rows. However when the page posts back I am unable to reopen the row that was opened. I have tried the RegisterStartupScript, etc. in the code behind but am unable to trigger the event. I have tried the code behind to find the row that is expanded but that was unsuccessful also. How can I have the row expanded when the page posts back?
DetailsView has 2 properties: AutoGenerateEditButton, AutoGenerateInsertButton for hadling Update and Insert. Is there any way I can use asp:Button or some other buttons to hadle the same tasks?
I have created a Formview1 which have 3 columns Name, Status and Description. I just wanted to update display the Status and Description but not the Name. Can anyone give me any guidelines how I can do this.
I want to add two update buttons (approve and reject) in a gridview and when either of them are pressed they update the "status" field on that row. I can add one button using the inbuilt function of the sqldatasource but don't know how to setup two.I have tried the following but cant call the code for some reason;
I have a link button inside an update panel. The problem is the link button on postback is updating the whole page. Tried it with a normal button and the page is not refreshed all. Here's the code.
I have a simple table. (with PK). I have created a tableadapter that selects all fields and filters with a control parameter. This works fine. The results are displayed within a DetailView control. All okay up to this point. I have then enabled 'Editing'.I can then click on the edit and change the text, but when I click the edit button the page updates but the value has not changed in the database?
It should be simple, but I didn't found yet how to do it. There is only one user (Admin with user name and passowrd, he has a cookie so I know when he is watching the page) I would like to show him the Update/Delete/Insert button options in my ListView, but to the other users I don't want them to be able doing this kind of things, So it should be hidden from them. How I am doing it in C# code? Showing/Hiding these buttons?
I am using asp.net(C#) as platform for building my application. I want to update the values in the database for the particular user & using the following code:
[Code]....
when I run this code, it works perfectly fine & there's no error, but when I check into the database, the values do not change & remains same. The default value in the database is NULL.
I have a gridview where I am using the update. I have converted the label into a templatefield and added a dropdownlist which is getting polulated in the Rowdatabound event. When I test the update i get an error
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'StartTime', table 'HTC.dbo.EventDates'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails. The statement has been terminated. so I am ussuming its still trying to update from the label rather than using the dropdownlist. here is my code:
I am very new to updating the datasource using ObjectDatasource. I have a checkbox on click of update the update method triggers but though teh check box is checked, the value is updated as false.
I'm using a DetailsView object to present a record from a database in table format. I'm actually using and ObjectSource object as the data source for the details view. In the object I am using as the source for the ObjectSource, I have paired properties that hold decimals. This is, I have a property called Year1 and another property called Year1Change. This for years 1 to six. The values from the Year1 properties are in a cell, whereas the change values are bound to texboxes. The code for the frontend is the following:
[Code]....
Now, as you can see in the tbYr2RtCh textbox, I have an OnTextChanged property to call an event handler. This is because I want to do two things when the text changes. The first one is to make the font in the textbox bold if the value it holds is different from the Year2 property. The second one is to change the text on tbYr2RevCh to adjust the revenue for the percentage increase in the rate. The problem I have is that I cannot access the object that is the source for the data and make those changes directly in the object, instead of having to update the database. I don't want to update the database until the client says so, but the changes should be calculated immediately. I thought about creating an method in the object that I could specify in the ObjectDataSource as the update method, but I'm still not sure how to go about it.
I have a gridview and sqldatasource in a form. My sqldatasource has select, delete and update command. The delete command is working but the update doest not work when I click the update command field.
I have a strange issue with the FormView. After working through some issues getting the update to work (as this is my first experience with FormViews) I now have a new issue. After I perform an update, and the FormView updates and returns to read mode, if I hit F5 (refresh) the FormView performs another update to the datasource, despite the fact it is read-only mode and none of the fields on the screen are editable.
I would think that a refresh in read mode for the FormView after an edit would simply refresh the data from the database, not perform another update. Again, the FormView is in Read Only Mode, but a refresh is creating another Update event (which I can debug and see if I break in the ItemUpdating event). This only happens after I perform an edit, not when the page initially loads.
I have a DetailsView (DV) control, an ObjectDataSource (ODS) control, and a button on a page. I have 2 classes in the App_Code directory (Customer and CustomerDAO). The DAO class provides static methods for the ODS control and simply hack values in (ie...no real database selects/updates). The Customer class has 2 properties (Id and Name) and a default constructor. The page takes an ID on the querystring and determines if the DV control is in insert or edit mode. If in edit mode, it sets the SelectParameter on the ODS (id field), calls ODS.Select(), and then calls DV.DataBind(). The existing (although fake) customer is loaded and display properly when this happens. I then change the name of the Customer in the DV and click the Button to save the new data.
Everything seems to be wired up correctly as the UpdateMethod that is specified in the ODS control is called and succeeds (even in my real example with my database). The problem is that the BoundFields in the DV control have not been updated with the new values and therefore the existing values are updated in the database and my changes are lost. I have handled the OnUpdating event of the ODS and the values are still the old values. I have also handled the OnItemUpdating event of the DV control and the NewValues IOrderedDictionary still has the old values in it also. In looking at the MSDN article for the UpdateMethod, it states the following:
Parameter Merging Parameters are added to the UpdateParameters collection from three sources:
From the data-bound control, at run time. From the UpdateParameters element, declaratively. From the Updating event handler, programmatically.
I am using the BoundField classes in my DV control so I would have assumed that the first bullet above would have handled the updating of values, but it doesn't appear to work with the way I am doing it. If I set the values explicitly in the OnUpdating event that is fired by the ODS control (the 3rd bullet) the right values are updated (again...even in my real database situation). It seems like my only issue is that the automatic binding that I expect from the DV control isn't working as I would expect it to. Here is the code that I have in my fake example:
I have a details view that contains a dropdown list
40% 50% 70% 80% 100%
and would like to update the percentage value in the access data table - no problemHowever I would like to also update another field "Saledate" with the current date/time if 100% is selected and if it is subsequently amended from 100% back to any of the others then the field is set to null.I initially though that i could have an update gridview within the detailsview editItemtemplate as per the code below but this fires before the postback on update and therefore would be grateful if someone could let me know how to write the code that will fire on the onupdated event

I started using the awesome chart controls with my asp.net apps recently and so far they've been nothing short of breath taking. Right now I have a weird problem, on the first load of my page, the chart control appears correctly and the tooltip is correct, however, when I update it with new data, the chart displays correctly, but the tooltips are for the previous set of data.
I hope this makes sense. The first time I load the chart, the pie chart segments and tooltips are correct, after a partial postback (to get the new data), the pie chart segments are correct but the tooltips are for the previous data set.
Basically once the tooltips are set the first time, they can't be updated after that without a full page postback.
Here's how I set the tooltip:
[Code]....
Anyone else noticed this behaviour and have a work around?
Currently my only workaround is to check for a partial postback and not render the tooltip, which I'd rather not do as the tooltip display actual statistical data as opposed to the pie itself (which uses percentages).
I am having a bit of trouble trying to get teh postback data from a programmatic generated radio buttons in TableCell object. I have the following ASP user control:
I generate the TableRow and TableCell base off XML data file. When the submit occurs I can not access the data values from the radio buttons that are generated. I try to get the data in the following manner:
I have a GridView on a web form, which displays data fetch from database using Linq. When I update the GridView in a button event on server side everything works fine. Now I want to update the GridView from a JavaScript funciton call. Here is the code on the page.
The problem is that GridView1 never gets updated in IE. It works perfectly in Firefox. I can see the event was triggered by the Javascirpt call and I get correct dataset from database through debug. However the GridView never display the correct data. Is GridView handled different from regular web form control?
I have a toolkit tabbed container with an update panel in the bottom of each of the tabbed container's content template. There is also a radio button list an, a text box and a button. The user chooses the search criteria with the radio button list. They then enter the search text in the text box and hit the search button.
The update panel is then going to display the appropriate grid view and results, depending on what radio button was chosen. The logic to check the radio buttons is in the click event of the search button. I currently have one of the grid views and set it's visible property to true in the logic that checks to see which of the radio buttons was selected. My plan so far is to continue adding the other gridviews and doing this the same way with them. This will toggle the correct Grid View on.
I'm wondering if there is a better way of dealing with the Grid Views. There will be one of three to be displayed with in this update panel. They will have different result sets from different tables. Is my approach for turning them off and on with the visible property a bad idea? Should I be doing all of the ODS and grid view stuff programmatically? Is there a better way of doing this?
...I get an async postback when I click the 'Edit' button for a particular GridView row. This is what I want. In fact, I also get an async postback if I then click the 'Cancel' button for that GridView row which appears after having clicked the 'Edit' button.
However, if I instead click the 'Update' button that appears after having clicked the 'Edit' button, I get a full postback. I have tried almost every GridView EventName
I can find to add to the <Triggers></Triggers> section to get a click of the 'Update' button to result in an async postback, but with no luck.
What EventName should I use in the <Triggers></Triggers> section to get a GridView to do an async postback when clicking the 'Update' button for a particular row?
