View 6 RepliesFor ASP.NET, I'm using a DetailsView for insert and edit of a record. For edit mode I don't want to display the primary key field because it should not be changed. For insert mode, I want to display the primary key field because it doesn't exist and the user can specify it via a DropDownList that insures they will pick an unique value. A TemplateField is used in the DetailsView markup for the primary key field (hence the DropDownList for insert mode).
My problem is that I cannot get the primary key field to not display for edit mode and to display for insert mode. In the markup I have:
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="name" InsertVisible="True" Visible="True">
<InsertItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddl2NonMembers" runat="server"
Width="155px"
Sourceless="sqlNonMembers"
DataTextField="name"
DataValueField="id_adm"
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("member_grp") %>'>
</asp:DropDownList>
</InsertItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
With the TemplateField Visible="True", the HeaderText="name" always displays which I don't want for edit mode. With the TemplateField Visible="False", the field never displays which I don't want for insert mode.How can I achieve the display behavior I want for insert verses edit mode. I'm fine with changing some property programmatically rather than relying an a pure markup approach,
I have a DetailsView where EditTemplate has a dropdown where the datasource is a view from SQLDatasource.
SELECT DIR, NAME, TYPE,
CASE WHEN [Dir]=''then [NAME]+' ' + [TYPE] else [DIR] + ' ' + [NAME]+' ' + [TYPE] END AS FULLSTNAME
FROM vROADS
In the DetailsView, Data Source configuration Wizard dialog box, I select the SQLDatasource as the data source. Under "Select a data field to display in the DropDownist:" I select NAME. Under "Select a data field for the value of the DropDownist:" I select FULLSTNAME.
When I try to edit I get the error saying "... it is not in the list...".
This is what I am trying to make it happen: The dd list displays the [NAME] data and when the user selects a value from the list, [FULLSTNAME] is actually selected, displayed in the text box section of the dd and is also stored to the database.
Any way of making this happen? I think I get this error because, FULLSTNAME is not a part of the database, but it is in SQLDataSource as a field.
Let me know if you need the html code.
I am trying to "reset" the DetailsView in View1 to ReadOnly mode if the user changes the index in RadioButtonList. Currently, it is working correctly for the first pass and second pass, but fails at the third pass. I want it to just cycle through the DetailsVIewdatabound event, but the cycle breaks on the third pass and I'm not sure why?

how to databind a drop down list on my DetailsView. What I want to do, is when the details view loads the drop down list it contains the current value of the record selected from my GridView, but the user is then able to select a new value. I know how to databind a drop down list in any other scenario but I just couldn't get this to work.
View 7 RepliesHow would I go about changing gridview colours and detailsview colours depending on who logs onto my website? Is there a way of doing it in the code behind (basic example follows) :-
If User = "Peter" Then
Gridview/Detailsview Headerstyle =
Gridview/Detailsview Controlstyle =
End If
The gridview and detailsview are connected to SqlDataSource controls and are databound to a SQL server database.
I have a problem that in DetailsView Edit Mode, if I go to edit fields, and set a fields visible property to false, when I update the record through the built in update options it sends a null value. If I change the field back to visible, it passes the data just fine.
Consequently, I tried just setting the field to Read Only = True, and got the same result even though the current values do show up in the edit mode, just read only.Is there anyway to hide the field but still allow it to pass the data it currently has "BACK" into the record.
I have a details view in asp.net which I am dynamically replacing some of the controls using code behind (e.g. converting some text boxes to dropdowns). My problem is that I am unsure how to bind these to the field from the database on postback. I.e. I am trying to find the code behind equivalent bind('currency');
I can populate the dropdown with the current value from the database but cannot find how to save a new value on updating the detailsview.
I have some ImageField in my DetailsView and when I changed it to Insert mode then ImageField is also became the textbox that allow you to type something, and my question is how I can make ImageField to be read only when I changed DetailsView to Insert mode?
<asp:DetailsView ID="dvNew" runat="server" AutoGenerateRows="False"
AllowPaging="true" DataKeyNames="ID"
DataSourceID="DataSourceNew" Width="600px" Font-Bold="False" AutoGenerateInsertButton="True" >
<Fields>
<asp:BoundField DataField ="name" SortExpression ="name" HeaderStyle-ForeColor="Black" > </asp:BoundField>
<asp:ImageField DataImageUrlField="Image1Path" NullDisplayText="No Image"
ReadOnly="True" ItemStyle-Height="250" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center"
ItemStyle-VerticalAlign="Middle" ItemStyle-Width="250" >
</asp:ImageField>
In my code file
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
DataSourceNew.Selected += new SqlDataSourceStatusEventHandler(DataSourceNew_Selected);
}
protected void DataSourceNew_Selected(object sender, SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs e)
{
if (e.AffectedRows == 0)
{
dvNew.ChangeMode(DetailsViewMode.Insert);
}
}
im making a details page but i want to add another filed on the detailsview i want the url of the page to have 2 parameters, one for the datasource of the detailsview and one for the field i want to add how can i accomplish that? for example:
accountd.aspx?id=12&ammount=50,00
and then the detailsview will have the details of account 12, and one more field that has value 50,00
I've got a Gridview which has a datasource to a particular database.
I've got a DetailsView which has a datasource to a table in another database.
when I select a Gridview row, I need to populate a field in the DetailsView with the Primary Key field (showing in the Gridview) from the Gridview.
Can this be done (if so, how?)?
Also (but not as important) :
If there's no field related in the second table, I'd like it to come up in Insert Mode - if there is a field related, I need it to come up in Edit mode
I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with my code. If I use the code below in a non-masterpage aspx page with <head><body><div> tags it works with no problem. Code that works:

I have a template field in a Details View which is a dropdown selection of values.While I can get the value of the textfields in the DetailsView by using: DetailsView1.Rows(i).Cells(1).Text.ToStringI don't know how do extract a value from a dropdownlist2 contained in the DetailsView.
View 4 RepliesI have a Details view where I want to have a multi-select value, with the choices driven from another table.I need to iterate through the check-boxes in the list, and I do that by using a DetailsView1.FindControl("MyCheckBoxList") to find the check box list.The challenge I'm having now is that if I name the CheckBoxList differently in each of the templates (Item, Edit, Insert), then they each need a separate handler to find the control and iterate through the checkboxes. I can't find a method to fire a handler
View 2 RepliesI want to add boundfield to the Detailsview control at the run time. The data is coming from the dataset, which is fetching data from SqlDataAdapter. I tried using the following code
string st = "select * from tbrob,tbemp,tbcty,tbcmp where robfircod=" + TextBox1.Text.ToString() + " and robempcod=empcod and robctycod=ctycod and robcmpcod=cmpcod";
I have a details view displaying data from my database. One of the fields is called account growth:

I have an ASP.NET/C# web project that uses an Entity Data Model and Entity Framework to interact with my database. I also have a DetailsView control that will serve as the control used to insert a new record. The user will need to be able to select from multiple,
cascading dropdownlist controls to determine what parent record this new record will belong to. Here is an example.Say we have an online ordering system with the following hierarchy.
Customers -> Orders -> OrderParts -> Parts
We're going to add a new part to an order, under a customer. Ultimately the orderparts table won't have a reference to a customer, just an order. The order will have the reference to the customer. In the DetailsView for the new orderparts record we will need two cascading dropdownlist controls. One for customer and one for order, since we won't want to view some crazy amount of orders all in one dropdownlist.
However, the customer dropdownlist should not be bound to the detailsview control since there is no field for it. I also don't want to use the AJAX control since I don't want to create a separate web service to provide all of this information to the dropdownlist controls.
I require a drag and drop functionality between a ASP.NET grid view and a details view. I used jQuery draggable and droppable functionality to drag a row from gridview based on css class and added it to a second grid view. But now I want to drag single row of grid view and manipulate its contents to display it in details view. I have pasted my existing jQuery script that allows me to drag a column from one gridview and paste it to another of the same structure,
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('.block').draggable({

When I change my insert update and delete buttons to template field....they do not work properly anymore. I get a "Cannot insert a Null Value into...blah blah blah, error.
View 2 RepliesI have a FormView which is used to insert a record into a database. Outside of this formview i have a drop down list, I want to grab the value from that drop down list and set one of the text fields within the formview to it's currently selected value. I've tried the following code, but the dynamic categorytextbox line is what seems to not be working.

I'm trying to get a drop down list to select a field from a table.
Below is the code for my existing datagrid. I need the maintenance column on the end to be a drop down box fetching values from a datasource. I can sort the datasource bit myself i think

I have a field that is based on asp.net membersip UserID. I can bind this to dropdowns which aren't in a detailsview just fine, but for somereason my code isnt working for finding the control properly.I have the following in detailsview.databound (where it was suggested to be placed)

A TemplateField of a DetailsView can be assigned a value easily at any of many event handlers such as Load, PreRender, etc. when the page is loaded. However, after Insert or Cancel is clicked, all the fields are cleared. I cannot figure out how to assign a value to the field again in code-behind.
View 4 RepliesI've been struggling with trying to figure out how to do this for about 2 weeks now. I have a DetailsView with several template fields in it. The first field (Unit_Code) is a dropdownlist item where the user would select a Unit based off the Unit_Code's Unit Name. Further down I have a field named (System), system needs to get it's value from the selectedvalue or selectedindex that the user selected in the (Unit_Code) dropdownlist. I have another dropdownlist item (Component) that will need to get the selected value from System to sort on, so once I have the first Unit_Code to System figured out I should be able to figure out the System to Component part seeing as it will basically be doing the same thing.
My aspx page code is below:
