I have a connectionstring in my web.config <add name="HeimkinoVerbindungszeichenfolge1" connectionString="Data Source=SERVER;Initial Catalog=Heimkino;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Password=*******;"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
This itself is working when using eg the SQLDataSource for a Gridview or similar.
Now I need to access this DB with different scripts and work with that database.
Eg I need to run this comand in a page_load against the DB
[Code]....
to remove old events from the database
For other pages I need something like
[Code]....
for some userauthentication things this should just create a recordset I can work with then.
Is there a way to realize this using the connectionstring in the web.config (and if so, How???)
If this will not work, how can I run such queries?

I have a class library that contains a valid connectionString inside the app.config. Inside that class library I want to use it with
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NAME"].ConnectionString
My ASP.net 4.0 framework application references that DDL and retrieves data from it. I want create a Entity Framework 4 DataContext within my DDL with the ConnectionString from the App.config. (I do not want to pass the connectionString from my ASP.net application in every single method. (I'm using ObjectDataSources))
However, this line inside my DLL throws a NullReferenceException.
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NAME"].ConnectionString

I have the following in my web.config
<connectionStrings>
<add name="ActiveDirectoryConnection" connectionString="LDAP://ActiveDirectoryDomain1.com" providerName="System.Web.Security.ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider"/>
</connectionStrings>
I need to add a dropdown box to my login page that allows the user to change the connectionString to a different string, e.g. "LDAP://ActiveDirectoryDomain2.com"
In C# code behind how do change the connectionString value?
More info:
The problem I am having is that there are 4 other web.config settings call that one connectionString. For example:
<activeDirectorySecurityContextSettings connectionStringName="ActiveDirectoryConnection" defaultADUserName="ReportUser" defaultADPassword="password"/>

I know this might be a very basic question, but maybe thats why im having problems finding the answer. Right now I'm creating database connections in my source files by doing something like this:
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("Data Source=...Password=...);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(String.Format("SELECT * FROM Table;"), con);
con.Open();
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();
But this means that if I choose to change databases it will be a major pain in the ass. Do you guys know how to use the connection string from a web.config file instead?

As mentioned in this tutorial (http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/5-working-with-data), I tried using my own connectionstring from web.config.
I got this error: "Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0."
The tutorial suggests to use: Database.OpenConnectionString("SmallBakeryConnectionString") method
Instead you should use Database.Open("ConnectionStringName").
Ref: http://cytanium.com/forums/yaf_postsm18_Connection-string-problem.aspx
The API Document is missing Database.Open method and also Database.OpenConnectionString info needs to be modified.

I am going to deploy my Application on server but instead of specifying connection string (servername .server userid , password) in web.config manually is their any way of entering the server details in the web.confi file dynamically from client side when i first run the application.
in the starting page the user must specify the server details and database name from which he want the data to be loaded .And once i enter the server details it should bepermanently stored in the web.config file instead of dataabse.

I'd like to mimic the behavior of the "profile provider" that is available in .Net. The profile provider acquires profile properties from the web.config and those properties are immediately available as an enum for use in the code behind.I'm unsure how to do this, and wondered whether someone may be able to help.Essentially I'd like to allow developers to enter Role information into the web.config, and then have this role information available for use within an enum in the codebehind.

1. On OnCreatedUser event, I create a folder for each members, so that they can store their files inside those. The thing is I use User.Provider key as a folder name. Is this a good way to store? Is this OK from security view point. Otherwise I am planning to use the User.Username. Here are the codes inside the OnCreatedUser event.
[Code]....
2. Inside these user folders I want to put web.config at run time [at the time of registration]. So that a member cannot access files of other members at any cost. Do you have any idea on creating web.config file at runtime inside these folders? Else if you can provide me any other options, I am eager to listen that. I don't want to call database frequently. So if there is any easy solution.

I am working on an ASP.NET project in Visual Studio .NET 2010 and attempting to make an MSI installer using a Web Setup Project. I added the Primary output from the project (which seems to pull in the relevant dependencies) and the Content Files from the project (which pulls in the Web.config and the .svc files).
The issue is that rather than applying the XDT transform and creating the Web.config using the Web.Release.config, it just copies the Web.config, the Web.Release.config, and the Web.Debug.config into the installer without doing any transformation at all.
How do I get it to apply the Web.config transformation before creating the installer?

In my project i use in webconfig
<appSettings> add

dim cnn As new SqlConnection(constr)
Now i need to create conditional report where user select parameters from Dropdownlist and based on that Report is generate on web page. I tried so much with the help of
http://www.aspfree.com/c/a/ASP.NET/Binding-Data-to-the-ReportViewer-Control-Dynamically-in-ASPNET-20/1/ article but noluck. The data is display when i select the SELECT query from wizard while add dataset, but i want to do it dynamically coz webserver is located somewher else. Configuration is MSSQL server 2000, W2K3, VS 2005 Professional.
