WebMatrix :: Use Database.Open For ConnectionString From Web.config?

Aug 12, 2010

As mentioned in this tutorial (http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/5-working-with-data), I tried using my own connectionstring from web.config.

I got this error: "Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0."

The tutorial suggests to use: Database.OpenConnectionString("SmallBakeryConnectionString") method

Instead you should use Database.Open("ConnectionStringName").

Ref: http://cytanium.com/forums/yaf_postsm18_Connection-string-problem.aspx

The API Document is missing Database.Open method and also Database.OpenConnectionString info needs to be modified.

How To Open A Database In A WebMatrix C# File

Nov 19, 2010

In the webMatrix examples, which I have working, it's very easy to access a database. Only three lines are necessary to get up and going:

@{
var db = Database.Open("LOS");
var selectQueryString = "SELECT * FROM wknTest";
}

and a little later,

@foreach(var row in db.Query(selectQueryString)){

There's no using's, no connection strings, all that happens behind the scenes. But now I have enough complicated c# code that I want to separate it into a separate C# file. How would I do the above, but in a C# file residing in the app_code folder in a webMatrix project?

ADO.NET :: How To Use Connectionstring From Web.config

Jan 2, 2011

I have a connectionstring in my web.config <add name="HeimkinoVerbindungszeichenfolge1" connectionString="Data Source=SERVER;Initial Catalog=Heimkino;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Password=*******;"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

This itself is working when using eg the SQLDataSource for a Gridview or similar.

Now I need to access this DB with different scripts and work with that database.

Eg I need to run this comand in a page_load against the DB

[Code]....

to remove old events from the database

For other pages I need something like

[Code]....

for some userauthentication things this should just create a recordset I can work with then.

Is there a way to realize this using the connectionstring in the web.config (and if so, How???)

If this will not work, how can I run such queries?

C# - ConnectionString From App.config Of A DLL Is Null

Sep 4, 2010

I have a class library that contains a valid connectionString inside the app.config. Inside that class library I want to use it with

ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NAME"].ConnectionString

My ASP.net 4.0 framework application references that DDL and retrieves data from it. I want create a Entity Framework 4 DataContext within my DDL with the ConnectionString from the App.config. (I do not want to pass the connectionString from my ASP.net application in every single method. (I'm using ObjectDataSources))

However, this line inside my DLL throws a NullReferenceException.

ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NAME"].ConnectionString

WebMatrix :: Force Webmatrix To Create MySQL Database Install Scripts On Local Box?

Nov 9, 2010

I've found a Webmatrix help article that says MS Webmatrix "publishes the (SQL Server or MySQL) database by creating scripts that run in a database that has been created for you by your hosting provider." That is wonderful, except I can't get it to work when I'm trying to publish a MySQL database (backing wordpress) through FTP (my hosting provider does not support 'web deploy'). Again, no problem, since it is already documented that " FTP protocols cannot be used to publish MySQL database. " But this does not excuse Webmatrix from generating MySQL database install scripts for me. During the publishing step, no database install script is generated - at least that I can tell - and there is no manual option to create a database export / backup / install script.

In short, as Webmatrix goes, I'm dead in the water trying to get my database uploaded to my hosting provider. Does anyone know the trick to force Webmatrix to create the MySQL database install scripts on my local box? Once created, I can take-over the upload and install process.

C# - Dynamically Change ConnectionString In Web.config?

Aug 9, 2010

I have the following in my web.config

<connectionStrings>
<add name="ActiveDirectoryConnection" connectionString="LDAP://ActiveDirectoryDomain1.com" providerName="System.Web.Security.ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider"/>
</connectionStrings>

I need to add a dropdown box to my login page that allows the user to change the connectionString to a different string, e.g. "LDAP://ActiveDirectoryDomain2.com"

In C# code behind how do change the connectionString value?

More info:

The problem I am having is that there are 4 other web.config settings call that one connectionString. For example:

<activeDirectorySecurityContextSettings connectionStringName="ActiveDirectoryConnection" defaultADUserName="ReportUser" defaultADPassword="password"/>

C# - Use Connectionstring From Web.config In Source Code File?

Mar 15, 2011

I know this might be a very basic question, but maybe thats why im having problems finding the answer. Right now I'm creating database connections in my source files by doing something like this:

SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("Data Source=...Password=...);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(String.Format("SELECT * FROM Table;"), con);
con.Open();
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();

But this means that if I choose to change databases it will be a major pain in the ass. Do you guys know how to use the connection string from a web.config file instead?

Databases :: How To Open ConnectionString Using Mysql Connector

Mar 31, 2010

environment: W7 Ultimate 64, VS2008, Mysql 5.1.45, Connector .Net 6.2.2

.aspx environment: a DropDownList (DDL) triggers a DetailsView (DV). All functions (select, edit, new ...etc) work fine.

Now, in the same .aspx page I use Event "SQLDSDVKlient_Inserted" to get the Last inserted record ID using "ExecuteScalar" method! This to fill the DV with the just created record using "New" (see code below).

on "cnn.Open()" I get below error msg; Event code 3005!

Some additional info:

a) keep in mind this all happens in the same .aspx page
b) In the MySQL wizard (5.1.45) I clicked the "allow remote connections".
c) the ConnectionString is copied out of web.config (remind you: all 'normal' DV functions work fine.I.e. I certainly can connect to my MySQL DB.)
d) When using, in ConnectionString, the parameters "Allow User Variables=True;old guids = true" I get, on statement "cnn = New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(connString)" a msg: Keyword not supported"; so I removed it.
e) without above connectionstring parm I get on statement "cnn.Open()" below error msg: where I need help!

Questions:

1) why does the system suddenly bring the remote connection into play?; I'm always on the same machine, same .aspx page!
2) what is the role of the "mysql connector.net" (6.2.2) in this scenario ?

[Code].....

Full Trust Doesn't Seem To Work With WebMatrix Web.config File?

Mar 30, 2011

I've been told by my host that I need to enable FullTrust in my webmatrix website because I keep getting an error. (BUT, I have used a different host, and everything on my site works perfectly with them without modification). Anyway, I used the code my host suppllies in their KB, but that just generates a different error. So I looked up full trust on google and used about 5 different code samples to enable full trust but they all generate errors! even the ones on MSDN. And googling "Full Trust WebMatrix" doesn't really bring anything helpful either.

How can I successfully add full trust to a web.config file that is made using WebMatrix?
