Some say it is not a bug it is default in asp.net. but for me it is a bug in logic. When you say refresh it should be reload the component that you are refreshing. But in asp.net i notice that they recalling all activity and viewstate like event and data that are triggered in the previous postback. My opinion it is a redo not refresh. this is only my observation on the issue dont hate me on this microsoft fan.
on aspx page:
private
static string __VIEWSTATE_FETCH;
protected void Page_Load(object sender,
EventArgs e){

I often have some controls (like TextBoxes) for input parameters at the top of a page followed by a ListView to show the results.
When submit is hit, the LIstView shows the results using ControlParameters in the SqlDataSource.
My problem is when you first navigate to the page, the EmptyDataTemplate is shown. This can confuse users.
What is the Best Practice for not showing the ListView or EmptyDatatemplate until there has been a Submit button press?

The following code works fine for disabling content page controls, but how do I disable master page controls?
public void DisableControls(Control control,bool isEnable)
{
if (control.HasControls())
{
foreach (Control c in control.Controls)
{
DisableControls(c, isEnable);
}
}
else
{
if (control is IPostBackDataHandler && !(control is IPostBackEventHandler))
{
if (control is WebControl)
{
((WebControl)control).Enabled = isEnable;
}
else if (control is HtmlControl)
{
((HtmlControl)control).Disabled = !isEnable;
}
}
}
}

on the following.I am having a requirement for three GridViews (GV1, GV2 and GV3) to be nested within each other , GV3 being the inner most and GV1 being the outermost. The 3 GridViews are populated from non-SQL datasourse. Each Gridview has only column.A dropdown listbox is provided on the page and the value selected (say ID1) from the dropdown listbox is used as a filter for the query used to get the data from the database to populate GV1. The ID for each row displayed in GV1 will be used as a filter for the query used to poplulate GV2. ID2 for the row displayed in GV2 is used in the query used to populate GV3. GV3 will display rows of llnk buttons. When the user clicks on a link button in GV3, I want to be able to retrieve all the three IDs (ID1, ID2, and ID3) for further processing. The rows displayed in GV1 and GV2 will have different background colors.

I was wondering if there was anyway to populate the page with asp.net code like "<asp:Repeater ID="rptProducts" runat="server">MORE_CODE</asp:Repeater>" and then have the server use that code on the page. I'm not sure if i'm making sense. Like writing the asp.net front end code to the page dynamically before the .net engine generates the output html.

I am able to route my urls to an existing page. Here is how our scenario is currently working:
On Default.aspx, we have several links that link to pdf files on the server. The filenames of these files change dynamically which is why we need the url routing. When the user clicks on of the urls, the link is routed to the getFile.aspx page that has logic in it to determine which file to open.
Is there a way to have the getFile.aspx page to open in the same window as the default.aspx page?
Otherwise, I need for the getFile.aspx page to close after the intended processing is complete, and I've not been able to close it without getting the close window dialog box. I figure if it opens in the same browser window, I can redirect back to the default.aspx page when processing is finished.

I am using ASP.NET 2.0 with C#(No AJAX) in my project. In a particular web page, when the a button is clicked, some server intensive C# code runs before the same page is displayed again with the results. While code execution happens on the server in response to Button_Click event, a blank white page is shown to user on his browser in between post backs. How do i show a message in this case, that the processing is still going on and ask the user to wait? I have used javascript to show a message on page unload. But this message is also erased when the page is posted back to the server and the user sees a blank white page on his browser. How do i avoid this white page? Is there a way to show a message in the blank white page? How do i show a processing Message while the page is loading upon on Post Backs to the same Page.

I have a submit button on form and want to read all the values from a gridview and the embeddd dropdownlists within some of the columns of the gridview.The gridview is added programmatically and therefore I use findcontrol to find it and then use it to iterate through the rows:
[Code]....
When i step throught the code the values are coming back as empty strings although they are populated on the form? Some of the columns are dropdownlists also and I am attempting to use findcontrol to get these values also but the are just not finding the ddls (i.e null reference)

We are in the process of building a huge site. We are contemplating on whether to do the processing of HTML at server side (ASP .Net) or at the client side. For example we have HTML files which acts like templates for the generation of tabs. Is it better for the server side to get hold of content section (div) of HTML load the appropriate values and send the updated HTML to the browser or is it better that a chunk of data is passed onto client and make Javascript do the work?

I have a modal popup and a GridView in it. The GridView is populated programmatically, i.e. I use .DataBind(). I can enter data into some of the GridView's controls. After I press Submit, I expect to do something with the entered data. But in the button press handler, the GridView is empty. I realize that I have to DataBind() again in the handler, but how can I preserve the data the user enters?

I have a web form called default.aspx which has a form with user information. In addition to this, I have an iFrame on the same page that displays a page Secondary-Form.aspx that has a few additional dynamic data fields. I need to do two things.
1. I need to pass the parent form data in real time to the iFrame page to refresh its content and modify it's fields accordingly. Example: If the user submits their Vehicle Choice as Car on parent form, the form item in iFrame will display a radio button that says Honda, and if the user submits their Vehicle Choice as MotorCycle in the parent page, the iFrame will display Harley Davidson as the radio button choice
2. The submit button is on the parent page. I want both pieces of this information (from the parent page, as well as iFrame selection) to be passed to a server side ASPX page to process this information.the default.aspx and Secondary-Form.aspx files are located on different domains.

I have three drop down lists that are all databound to a gridview. When the user selects 1. a school, 2. a house number, and 3. a street from seperate drop down lists, bus stops for that address are displayed in a gridview. Everything works fine. After the user selects a valid school/house number/street combination the gridview automatically displays. I would like to add a "Submit" button and not have the gridview display until this button is clicked.
