Oct 4, 2010I have been asking this for a long time.But the answer what i get is not want i need.I have a gridview with two template text box (t1 and t2) inside gridview and four textboxes outside the gridview on the form (txt1,txt2,txt3,txt4).All these textboxes allow only integer value to be entered.What i need is to get the total of all these textboxes (ie,template textboxes as well as textboxes outside gridview) in a textbox named Total at the same time we enter values in a textbox.Also if i change the value of a textbox later that too should be reflected in the Total textbox .I know how to calculate the total of the textboxes outside the gridview.But i need the total of all textboxes including template as well as textboxes outside simultaneously

Mar 6, 2011I have visual 2010 with net 3.5 web app. I was implementing EntityFramework in my project and added a gridview to a entity source control. It worked ok, with select, update, and delete buttons enabled on the grid. But then, i needed to add a template field bound to a Foreign table, so my users select value from a list instead of writing the code. After that, my app fires error when i delete. I tried everything, inclue dakeyNames, write code on my RowDeleting, RowDeleted, RowCommand, but error persists.
Now, i can delete the row, but it then i get the error Object reference not set to an instance of an object If i implemente delete code on RowCommand i get the error: Store update, insert, or delete statement affected an unexpected number of rows (0). Entities may have been modified or deleted since entities were loaded. Refresh ObjectStateManager entries.

Jan 25, 2011I'm having difficulty trying to create and persist controls inside of a gridview during postbacks. I have an unbound Datagrid control which is created with x number of rows and y number of columns during the Page_Load event.

During the RowDataBound event of the GridView, I create a placeholder control and then I create a label and add the label to the placeholder

On the first page load when navigating to the page, the grid dispays perfectly and the labels are created with no issues and I can see the "1" in every single cell of the Gridview. I basically need the labels in the cells to store an ID when the cell is clicked (the click event works with no issues, wired it all up with javascript) and Since the Cells to not exist prior to "Building the matrix" method, How can I persist the Label controls inside of the tablecells between postbacks so I can assign and read values from them.
I've read a number of online posts from 4guys from rolla and they demonstrate how to persist a handful of controls dynamically created in a staticly defined PlaceHolder conrol outside of the complicated setup of the gridview and have failed at adapting them. The golden rule seems to be to 'recreate' the controls during Page_PreInit during the postback, but I can't seem to get it working.

Dec 4, 2010Setting up the editItem template of a gridview. I have a template field with a dropdown list for editing. When the gridview goes into edit mode the dropdown list is displayed with all the right options but the current value of the field (pre-editing) is not the selected value of the dropdown list? How do I make that happen? I have a couple fields where the editItem template will use a dropdown list and I'm sure a user will not realize those values have changed and they will just edit what they intended to edit and save the changes, inadvertently also making changes to other fields.

And the insert fails with YearOfQualification as null. If I sue the standard textbox:

Jan 6, 2010I keep getting a null reference when I try to access a listbox inside the EditItemTemplate of a formview. I check the mode before accessing the control (Formview1.CurrentMode) to make sure it is in edit mode and even set it manually to edit mode again! But formview1.findcontrol("blah") returns null. Formview1.EditItemTemplate does not have a FindControl method, not sure what else to try.

and then call this:

I keep creating a DataList1_SelectedIndex_Changed event created when I double click the label or a link button. What is the code needed? I can see the Eval("CG_ID") value with the label but I don't know how to get it into tbxCG_ID.Text and fire the ListBox1 event.
