Forms Data Controls :: Multiple Dropdown Filters To Sort A Grid View
Jan 4, 2010
wondering if someone can possibly help me out with a gridview. I have data coming into a grid and I know how to filter the data using one dropdown, I'm trying to get a little more advanced now. I'd like to filter using three dropdowns.
This is what I have so far: I don't know how to hook the downlists to the query?

I have this code that once a column in gridview is clicked, it sort the record. Can someon explain to me what does
static Int32 cntsortSecurityID = 0; // declare var to hold 0 or 1 // what is this, I dont understand why. what is the meaning of zero or One in this case . Oh yeas, the code is working for me, but I need to understand the concept behind it.
if (e.CommandName == "sortSecurityID")
{
DataView dv = ((DataSet)(Session["data"])).Tables[0].DefaultView;
if (cntsortSecurityID == 0)
{
dv.Sort = "SecurityID asc";
cntsortSecurityID = 1;
}
else
{
dv.Sort = "SecurityID desc";
cntsortSecurityID = 0;
}
gvTrans.DataSource = dv;
gvTrans.DataBind();
}

I have a grid view with manual sorting. In some cells, the data are numeric and datetime. But due to some constrains, the data type on tables are varchar. The problem here is when I sorting those numeric data, it is treated as varchar.Eg: 1, 12, 13, 2, 23, 3, ...But I wanted the order to be: 1, 2, 3, 12, 13, 23, ...I have tried these method, but it doesnt works.

I am new to ASP.NET MVC 2 and I am having a very hard time figuring out how to do even the most simple things. I have a couple of books on ASP.NET MVC as reference but I cannot find any answer to my question. Here is what I basicalyl have and need:
I am trying to create a page that shows me a table that contains some Product Statistics with columns such as Date, ProductCount, PriceCount. On the same page I want to add some filters such as "Product category" (dropdown) and a date from and date to (jquery ui datepicker). When a user clicks on "Filter" it should reload the page and in the Product Statistics it should show the statistics filtered by "Product Category" and the date range. At the same time I want to make sure that the selected Product Category from the dropdown list does not get lost, the same for the date pickers.
I have a GlobalReportController with two actions: "Index" and "Filter". I have also a GlobalReportIndexViewModel and a ReportFilter. In the "Index" action, I retrieve the complete list of statistics and product categories and fill up the ProductStatisticsIndexViewModel.
I am having a whole lot of problems trying to grasp how the ASP.NET MVC paradigm works exactly.

I am using grid view control with paging Like-:
protected
void grdUpdateColumn_RowCreated(object
sender, GridViewRowEventArgs
e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType ==
DataControlRowType.Pager)
{
DropDownList ddl
= new
DropDownList();
//adds variants of pager size
ddl.Items.Add(
"5"
);
ddl.Items.Add(
"10"
);
ddl.Items.Add(
"20"
);
ddl.Items.Add(
"50");
ddl.AutoPostBack = true;
//selects item due to the GridView current page size
ListItem
li = ddl.Items.FindByText(grdUpdateColumn.PageSize.ToString());
if (li !=
null
)
ddl.SelectedIndex = ddl.Items.IndexOf(li);
ddl.SelectedIndexChanged +=
new
EventHandler(ddl_SelectedIndexChanged);
//adds dropdownlist in the additional cell to the pager table
Table pagerTable = e.Row.FindControl("pagerTable")as
Table;
//e.Row.Cells[0].Controls[0] as Table;
TableCell cell =
new
TableCell
();
cell.Style[
"padding-left"] =
"15px"
;
cell.Controls.Add(
new
LiteralControl("Page
Size:"
));
}
protected
void ddl_SelectedIndexChanged(object
sender, EventArgs
e)
{
//changes page size
grdUpdateColumn.PageSize = int.Parse(((DropDownList)sender).SelectedValue);
ViewState["Index"]
= 1;
//binds data source
this.GetChangesRecord();
}
Grid view Like -:
<PagerTemplate>
<asp:Table
ID="pagerTable"
runat="server"><asp:TableRow>
</asp:TableRow>
It's working fine but problem is that if i select 10 and record from dropdown and record also has 10 then paging is not showing.
That's mean i select 10 from dropdown and record is 10 then dropdown also disable with numbers, suppose i need to select again 5 then i can't do this.

I am doing a online web application whereby user is able to enter in new template as well as search for template. The Add template is located outside the grid view and if user clicks on the button, it will load the grid view that is populated with data as there is a row of empty fields at the bottom. However when I click on the Add Template button, the grid view does not appear.
This is my business logic that I used it to search for records as well to click on the Add Template button to add in new records:

I'm trying to setup a page that will utilize a dropdown list control inside of a grid view control using VS 2005 2.0 version. Everything that I can find online seems to only show the use of the dropdown list control using a data grid. I don't want to use a data grid because it doesn't have the functionality/ power as the grid view control. how I can incorporate a dropdown list control with the grid view control? Here is a copy of my code.
<asp:GridView ID="HardwareSetdv" runat="server" AllowPaging="True"
AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="AcctID"

I have a GridView in ASP.Net 3.5. I added BoundFields as columns, set DataField and Header Text. Total I have 6 columns like that. Although I set "AllowSorting=True" in design view, when I run this page, all the columns didn't have hyper link that I can click on it and sort that particular column. I bind this column at code behind by using datatable.
gv.DataSource = dtDispatch
gv.DataBind()

I am sorting the grid using DataView's "Sort" property. I am passing sort expression and the order in which the grid is to be sorted(ASC or DESC). But the problem is, since the column on which I am sorting the grid is listing the intergers, the sorting is happening as if it is a string. But I need integer sorting rather string sorting on that column.
The grid displays below as ascending order(string sorting)
55
77
8
But I need the columns to be displayed like this(Integer sorting)
8
55
77

Have a GridView with a templated select button hidden and using
e.Row.Attributes.Add("onclick",Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(this.grdMaster, "Select$" + e.Row.RowIndex.ToString())); to select a row .
When user like to update the datasource he will select one row from gridview then in selected indexchanged event i would display the selected row values beneath the form under the grid , Then user will update the contents displayed from grid and click an update button which is outside the grid . After updating the displayed row , i got to get the values of the next row in the grid and display them for next updation , i'e if users maually selects row 3 from grid then he can update the values using the update button and then on update click itself i'll have to display next row contents of row 4 and this process could go on .

My Grid is bound to a collection type datasource. When I try to sort the Columns in the Grid I get Javascript error saying sorting event not implemented. Why is the default inbuilt sort functionality not working which worked fine when I directly used a sqlDataSource using smart tag. Do I have to write some code to achieve sorting ?
