Forms Data Controls :: ViewState While Using Hyperlink Field?

I have a GridView that shows results according to user selections above it via checkboxes, dropdown lists etc. Once user clicks on a hyperlink value on one of the rows in GridView, user is taken to another page which is sort of a drill down for that line item in the GridView.
Everything works fine so far, except when the user hits the back button, user selections that filter data on the Gridview page are lost. So, I added ViewState="True" on these filter options (i.e. checkbox, dropdownlist etc.). When back button is hit selections were still cleared. How could I remedy this?

I have a gridview which contains a mix of boundfields and hyperlinkfields ..
Using the below code (VB) for testing purposes only :
Dim row As GridViewRow = GridView1.Rows(0)
MsgBox(row.Cells(3).Text.ToString)
if the cell contains a boundfield, the msgbox will contain the cell value
if the cell contains a hyperlink field, the msgbox will always be blank !

Above is the field in the gridView. My question is very simplet that whatever the number of rows in a grid in one column, I just want to show the sum of the values of a column in the Footer Row.
I don't want to use javascript. I have tried following code but there is displaying "0" in the footer of the respect column instead of sum.

I have a Gridview with a hyperlink field. The hyperlink will open a pdf file from a folder in the root of the web if there is a corresponding file. My problem is that there may or may not be a corresponding file and if there isn't a file then a browser window opens up and the contents of the folder are displayed. This folder will be maintenanced from day to day adding and removing files. coding something that will either disable the hyperlink were there is no corresponding data or just pop up a message that there is no corresponding data to view.

I have a shopping cart page (Cart.aspx) that has a button that will (sometimes) post to a third party payment gateway, if payment is necessary. The payment gateway will process the payment and then do a silent post to my website (Order.aspx) so I can update the order status.
Order.aspx always throws an invalid viewstate error, even though viewstate is disabled on the page.
What's happening is that Cart.aspx (which has viewstate enabled) posts to the payment gateway, and the gateway will post it back as part of the silent post. Even though Order.aspx has viewstate disabled and validation disabled, it still tries to validate the __viewstate field it's being given.
I know setting EnableViewState=false will disable the rendering of the __viewstate field, but if another page provides the field, shouldn't it still skip validation? I tried calling ViewState.Clear() on the Page_Init event of Order.aspx, but ViewState is apparently empty. how to get around this? I don't want to disable ViewState on Cart.aspx (in some cases it may be necessary), but I can't figure out how to clear it on Order.aspx.

I am using a GridView Control to display multiple fileds with 0's and 1's.
I am using template fields where CheckBoxes are used.
Where exactly and how do I apply the Logic to get a checked CheckBox when field Value=1 and unchecked CheckBox when field Value=2 .Also some times to be able to write a YES where fieldValue=1 or NO where filedValue=0
Do I apply this logic using asp or C#? How?

I have a DetailsView on the page and I have made one of the fields a TemplateField. In the EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate I have a DropdownList that is databound to a table in my Sql Server database. I wanted to add an initial value to the DropdownList
namely "- select -" .
I set the AppendDataBoundItems property to true and added the initial value as a ListItem.Markup of the DropdownList

This works fine for new input. The problem is however that the database already has records that were entered through a Windows Application and many of these records has a null value in this field and exceptions are thrown when I tried to open these records
and the system tried to set the SelectedValue of the DropdownList.After some more searching I found this help

So I changed the ListItem in the DropDownList markup to the following:
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList_RefHospDV4" runat="server"
AppendDataBoundItems="True" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource_RefHosp" [code]...
This now solved the problem of opening a record where the value is null in the database, BUT now the RequiredFieldValidator is not validating anymore to make sure that a databound item is selected for this field and not the initial value "- select -". So basically now it is not checking anymore to see if valid input has been entered for the DropDownList and it accepts "- select -" thus it acts as if the field is not a required field anymore.
In short what is required is that I want to make sure that the user enters a valid selection in the DropDownList, but it must also cater for old records that do not have this field entered yet so that those old records can be opened in the DetailsView .Opening Old records (with null in that field):When these old records are opened in the DetailsView the DropDownlist should show "- select -" when the value in the database is null.
Saving records (old or new records):When saving the record in Insert mode or Update mode the RequiredFieldValidator should show that a valid input is not selected if the DropDownList is still on "- select -".

I have to hide the VIEWSTATE and EVENTVALIDATION hidden fields on my ASP.net page at RUN time.I managed to remove the EVENTVALIDATION like so.............
<%@ Page enableEventValidation="false" EnableViewState="false" %>
But the VIEWSTATE is still there and I cant get rid of it and I need to. (hard to explain why)Is there another way of getting rid of it?
