Mar 23, 2011I have a custom user control which contains a asp hiddenfield object. The value of this hidden field is being set using javascript and I have verified that the value is being set properly. When a postback occurs the new value is not being saved and I cannot access it in my code.
I believe the problem is because the user control is not saved in viewstate and therefore the hidden field value is not saved accross postback. How can I make the hidden field save its value? I tried accessing it from the early page cycles and still no luck.

C# - Page With ViewState Disabled Still Be Validating A Viewstate Field?
Sep 24, 2010I have a shopping cart page (Cart.aspx) that has a button that will (sometimes) post to a third party payment gateway, if payment is necessary. The payment gateway will process the payment and then do a silent post to my website (Order.aspx) so I can update the order status.
Order.aspx always throws an invalid viewstate error, even though viewstate is disabled on the page.
What's happening is that Cart.aspx (which has viewstate enabled) posts to the payment gateway, and the gateway will post it back as part of the silent post. Even though Order.aspx has viewstate disabled and validation disabled, it still tries to validate the __viewstate field it's being given.
I know setting EnableViewState=false will disable the rendering of the __viewstate field, but if another page provides the field, shouldn't it still skip validation? I tried calling ViewState.Clear() on the Page_Init event of Order.aspx, but ViewState is apparently empty. how to get around this? I don't want to disable ViewState on Cart.aspx (in some cases it may be necessary), but I can't figure out how to clear it on Order.aspx.

Jul 13, 2010From the master page of my ASP.NET site I need to set the value of a hidden field in every get and post request and then subsequently read it in the next request.The problem is that in the post request the code works fine but when the client sends a get request I am unable to read the value of the hidden field from teh Master Page. Is the hidden field the proper approach to this and if so how do I read the value set in the hidden field in the subsequent get request. If the hidden field is not the proper approach for this then what else should I use?

I looked into the page's trace, and i could see 'control1$hdnField'. Then why i am not getting its value in my aspx page. I have also confirmed that the hidden field by this name exists in the user control and also has a default value set.

I have a grid view with several TemplateFields. A couple of them are set to Visible=False; each template field has an EditItemTemplate, an ItemTemplate and a FooterTemplate.

While in GridView_RowUpdating event, the value bounded to the EditItemTemplate is properly read

so, debugging ttbImp.Text = "4"; But when trying to get the value bounded to the FooterTemplate, the label contains no values.

why that? I believe it has to do with the hidden visibility of the field, but I can't understand why it reads the value inEditItemTemplate, and it doesn't in FooterTemplate.
Forms Data Controls :: ViewState While Using Hyperlink Field?
Mar 30, 2011I have a GridView that shows results according to user selections above it via checkboxes, dropdown lists etc. Once user clicks on a hyperlink value on one of the rows in GridView, user is taken to another page which is sort of a drill down for that line item in the GridView.
Everything works fine so far, except when the user hits the back button, user selections that filter data on the Gridview page are lost. So, I added ViewState="True" on these filter options (i.e. checkbox, dropdownlist etc.). When back button is hit selections were still cleared. How could I remedy this?

Jan 4, 2011I must be doing something wrong, but this makes sense to me. I have a Listbox loaded with tons of items from a datasource. A user clicks one of these items it grabs the selectedindex (an integer) and stores it in a HiddenField (works fine).
Now when the page does a complete a refresh (after postback) I want the ListBox to go back to that selectedindex that is in the HiddenField. Problem is, it seems that after postback the HiddenField is empty? Then I thought about storing the value in an Integer variable in code, but that is simply coming up as a zero at all times.
Question 1: What is the best/simplest way to do this?
Question 2: How?
I am currently grabbing it on selectedindex change

Apr 15, 2010I've got a gridview with a hidden field, i'm trying to set a value as follows:
value='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Name")%>'
which works in most cases except when the name has an apostrophe like O'Neil. I need to escape the ' if possible.
so i tried: value='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Name").ToString().Replace("'", " /' ")%>' and
value='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Name").ToString().Replace("'", " //' ")%>'
which doesn't work because of the final apostrophe in the notation i.e. %>' It truncates after the word e.g O'Neil Someone becomes O' which is incorrect.
This works like a charm: value='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Name").ToString().Replace("'", "'")%>' which isn't good practice as I don't want to hardcode '
