Forms Data Controls :: Column With Nvarchar Datatype Storing The Date?
Aug 16, 2010
I have a column with nvarchar datatype storing the date. I am using a Gridview to display and edit data of that table. Now when I update the table the nvarchar column containing date in the format mm/dd/yyyy gets converted to Jun 9 2010 12:00AM format. I don't want this to be happening. I don't understand why this is happening as I don't have datetime column.

I'm using Cute Editor for ASP.NET for the first time, and it's occasionally refusing to insert or update a record. Basically the records are just composed of a bunch of HTML and text. So far I can't detect a pattern to the problem and I'm wondering about my data type.
I tried VARCHAR(MAX), NVARCHAR(MAX), and NTEXT, doesn't seem to fix it.
So what is the best SQL data type for HTML?
And could that be causing CuteEditor to refuse to insert/update records? Or something else?

I have some issues about retrieveing and storing date information to my database (ms sql server 2005).My data column is a DateTime, and i have set my web.config globalization culture is set to "en-gb"
When i retrieve date from the datebase it appears as dd/MM/yy, that's fine. But i cannot insert a new date as same format?! It will only accept MM/dd/yy or yy/mm/dd.Right now i'm using this code to correct the error:
[Code]....
Is it possible to change the date format on the database or something, so i dont need to use this code?

I have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 stored as nvarchar inside Level in my db.
I then have a dropdownlist with values 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. When a user makes a selection (i.e 1) (Level.SelectedValue.ToString). This builds an sql query via a param like this:
"Select things From MBA_EOI Where level = 1"
When I run the select I get the following error:
Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9' to a column of data type int.
I was under the impression that I was dealing with an Nvarchar field and the selected value as string, where does the int conversion come in?
p.s I have also tried Level.SelectedItem.ToString

I want to filter by database result based on the current date. I have a grid layout which will display the result based on the current date. I am using parameterized query for getting the result but it is not working.given below is the query i am using
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT TestID, Title, Description FROM aspnet_Test WHERE (Date
=@testdate)">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:Parameter Name="testdate" DbType="Date" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
and the result should filter on the basis of testdate
String testday, testmonth, testyear,testdate;
testday = System.DateTime.Now.Day.ToString();
testmonth = System.DateTime.Now.Month.ToString();
testyear = System.DateTime.Now.Year.ToString();
testdate.Text = testyear.ToString() + "-" + testmonth.ToString() + "-" + testday.ToString();
but this is not working .It is not showing any error but i am not getting any output.

Does it make a difference in terms of the actual size of the database if I define one of the columns as nvarchar(100)? If there are restrictions on the form as for how much you can input, let's say 50 characters, does the db save blank spaces from character 51-100 and create a database that is larger than it would be it the column was defined as nvarchar(50)?

I am using SQL SERVER 2008 database. I have a table Customers in which the CustomerID column is had datatype INT intially but due to increase in Customers the number range is exceeding which may cause error arithmetic overflow of data. Hence I thought to modify the datatype from INT to BIGINT and wrote an alter script but when I ran the script it failed. Hence provide me in creating alter script for the updating the datatype of the primarykey column for the Customers table.

In gridview columns im displaying date and time, as below.
23/02/2010 11:19:52
Im also doing sorting on these columns.
But the issue is during sorting its only sorting on "day (dd)"....
for example....these 3 values are from column, Date.
23/02/2010 11:19:52
18/02/2010 10:25:10
17/03/2010 09:30:51
when I click for "Ascending" sort....it should get "17/03/2010 09:30:51" on the top (because of month 03) others have 02, but it doesnt, it gets in the above order, its just sort on day (dd).Below is my code for boundfield....
<asp:BoundField
DataField="Date"
HeaderText="Date" [code]...

I have a datagrid with two columns ( File Name, and Date Created ). I want them to be sorted when clicked (ASC or DESC). I went into the design view and added the allow sorting feature and added the column names, so they are clickable in the header of the data grid. I also already added the onsortcommand as well.
My datagrid is named dgFileList and the onsortcommand method is named dgFileList_SortCommand.
The procedure that is already loading on page load is a DataSet. (where I think my problem is)I dont have anything in the back end beside the dgFileList_Sortcommand method. From what I have read, it seems like I can't use a DataSet to be sorted...I'm using visual studios 2005, C#, not VB.

note MONTH AND DATES stored in single or double digits as they occur. Unfortunately DATE TIME is stored in NVARCHAR Data type column as 2/9/2010, 22/10/2010 etc. Following UK Date here. It is required to pull the data to COUNT No. of Expired. Obviously below one fails.

Scenario: If you create a table with a column of type nvarchar, populate it with some content and try to modify it using the WebMatrix editor, from nvarchar to ntext, it does not display any error message or warning that this is not possible. It silently saves and reverts the change, back to nvarchar. Wasted some hours on this issue as I thought my column was ntext, but in fact was still nvarchar.
Expected behavior: It should change to ntext, or if SQL CE doesn't support that, it should notify the user that no change was applied.
