I have a Gridview which I'm populating through code behind. A couple of columns of the gridview I've set up to be drop down lists. What I want, is that when I run my Insert query, it takes the drop down list selected value, finds the appropriate ID and uses that ID as part of the insert query.
Below is my select and insert query.

This is the related asp:

I am using a dataset control and I have 5 dropdown lists in which their content depends on what item is selected in each dropdown list.
I know I can populate the lists with 5 different queries taking the variables from each list but I am thinking there must be a better way.
Is there a way to populate each list with one query that takes the distinct items from each column returned without looping through the entire recordset?

I have a gridview with column name:
Pending, Waiters, Opened
and in the rows under column there are figures like:
30, 50, 28
65, 0, 214 etc.
My program is working fine, when I am clicking 30, a new page opens and displays 30 rows, when I click 28 another page opens and displays 28 rows and so on.
In datatable there is a column named Stauts, actually Pending, Waiters,Opened are the status.
In dataset in table adapter I used thress queries one for "Pending", second for "Waiters" and third for "Opened".
To display data I created three pages with gridviews.
I used query like:
Select * from ..... Where status ='Pending'
Select * from ..... Where status ='Waiters'
Select * from ..... Where status ='Opened'
What is Required:
I want to make one query with status =@status and want to use header name in query or in vb.net coding and want to make only one page to display record.
To put my question as an idea/example I used three status but in real scenarion I have lot of status. If I have lot of status so I have to make lot of queries and have to create lot of aspx pages to display data in gridview that is not the correct logic.

I have developed the below web page which has an asp.net 3.5 listview control as it's frontend and an sql server db as it's backend.
[URL]
The first row on the web page is the inserting row. What I am hoping to achieve is that when the user enters their appropriate data they click the "Next" button to assign this dataset with it's own identity ID (customer_id) value within my database (this works perfectly), at the same time on the fly I want to use this customer_id as a query string variable to populate a child page (customerTrades.aspx) in order to pin further data to this identity. Currently I am attempting to use the below code within the iteminserted event of my listview control but I receive the error: "object reference not set to the instance of an object"??
protected void lvTrustAccounts_ItemInserted(object sender,
ListViewInsertedEventArgs e)
{
string customerID = e.Values["customer_id"].ToString();
Response.Redirect("http://www.tradeselector.co.uk/customerTrades.aspx?customer_id="
+ customerID + "");
}
Is this because the child page cannot find the customer_id variable being passed through the query string? Because it's not actually created yet? Am I using the wrong listview event? How can I achieve what I am looking for?
I must also mention that I'm using a linqdatasource to insert my data on runtime into my database. However, I am using the listview iteminserting event to insert my frontend dropdownlist selected values, code below:
protected void lvTrustAccounts_ItemInserting(object sender,
ListViewInsertEventArgs e)
{
e.Values["customer_created_date"]
= DateTime.Now;
e.Values["customer_update_date"]
= null;
DropDownList ddl_CountyInsert =
(DropDownList)lvTrustAccounts.InsertItem.FindControl("CountyInsertDDL");
DropDownList ddl_CityInsert =
(DropDownList)lvTrustAccounts.InsertItem.FindControl("CityInsertDDL");
DropDownList ddl_CountryInsert =
(DropDownList)lvTrustAccounts.InsertItem.FindControl("CountryInsertDDL");
e.Values["customer_county_code"]
= ddl_CountyInsert.SelectedValue;
e.Values["customer_city_code"]
= ddl_CityInsert.SelectedValue;
e.Values["customer_country_code"]
= ddl_CountryInsert.SelectedValue;
}

I have a page of several textboxes, which I would essentially like to populate from a single query. However, to begin with, I find myself unable to even populate one textbox from one query!
I have based the following on a query previously advised to me for use with drop-down lists (hence the use of DataTable). I have adapted this as follows:
AddData.aspx:
<asp:TextBox ID="tbNewDataNum" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
AddData.aspx.vb:
Partial Public Class AddData
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Dim CommonFunctions As New CommonFunctions
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
[Code]....
I would like the Page_Load event to populate the textbox with this query, so that the value is present as soon as the page is presented. Also, how would you advise populating many different textboxes in one go, with one query? Is this possible too?

I'm encountering a strange problem. Here is the scenario. I have built a query that accepts a parameter (WHERE LIKE clause).
I've tested this within the query builder and it returns exactly the number I would expect.
I then go back to my webpage and add the following controls:
Dropdown
Gridview
the user to make a selection from the dropdown. Postback on the dropdown is enabled so the page reloads and the Gridview displays the filtered results (via an objectdatasource). I've set the parameter to the dropdown control.
The trouble is when I run the page I make the selection in the dropdown no results are displayed. Even though the text displayed in the dropdown control is exactly the same as I inputted into the query builder when testing it.

I would like to alter the query that is run, depending on the selection made by the user in a drop down list on the same page. Would this best be done using a partial page update (AJAX)? Ideally it would be great to have the textbox result change quickly once the drop-down list value has changed, without a full page postback. I would like to change the SQL query to a completely different query if the user selects an option different to the default (page_load value) in the drop-down list. I would then like the newly retrieved result to be displayed in the textbox as before.
My current VB function looks like this:

When someone selects one of the search criteria, I want the other dropdownlist boxes to re-populate with only the information from the current search and take out all other information if that makes sense. This search functionality works except it the dropdownlist boxes stay populated with all information originally loaded from the database. Here is my code:

Basically I want to populate a drop down list with time slots for a user to select. If the time slot is already recorded in the database table I want to skip that one so it doesn't display as a selection in the drop down list.
So my drop down list looks like;

And then I have setup a datasource (even though I may get rid of it to bind in the code behind file)

Using ASP.NET 2.0
I have a gridview populated by a SQLDataSource that is fairly complicated on a dataset changing constantly. It takes a second or so to fetch the data.
I want to have external dropdownlists for filtering the data that appears in the gridview, either with a FilterExpression or with parameters.
The problem is that querying the database to populate the dropdownlists takes a long time, because of the complexity of the query. The values in the dropdowns can vary based on other filters.
Is there some simple way of querying the database only once, for the main gridview, and then somehow querying the local (to ASP.NET) copy of the data to extract distinct values for populating the filtering dropdowns? I am thinking this might speed things up a bit.

I am somewhat new at C# so forgive me if I have something listed wrong. This is what I got:
I am working on a school project designing a car dealership website. I have an inventory list that allows you to edit any car in the inventory. When you click on the edit button it takes you to the edit page and populates the controls with selections from the database. I have an options table that stores the VehicleID and Option ID. When the page loads it fills all the DropDownLists for the vehicle info with the data and selects the correct item according to the database selection but the CheckBoxList does not select the items that are on the Options table. I checked the query in SSMS and it returns the correct data. I have stepped through the method and it works till the "(currentCheckBox != null) if statement. It doesn't throw any errors but it also doesn't select items when the page renders.
I thought it might have been something with the page life cycle since databound controls don't render until the end but the DropDown's I have fill and selects the correct item according to the database.

I have textboxes of customer Address data. bound to Invoice table. Displayed on a Page.
I want to be able to show same data in detailsview. bound to Delivery table
using the following criteria:
1. check delivery table for address data, where email = usermembership Email address and populate Detailview. If no data present, copy Customer Invoice Address data across IF present, to Delivery Detailsview.
2. Insert record IF no Address found/Update IF record amended in Delivery detailsview(Only applicable to Delivery Detailsview)
I would prefare this to be accomplished in a Button_Click event instead of using Command buttons in bottom row of Detailsview.
This is because i am using a Multiview page that processes Customer Address data.

I need to create a gridview to show in each row, some columns from the SQL Database, and in other columns I want to have text fields, buttons and DropDownLists!
This GridView is to display the users of the web application.
First columns are name, email, and other stuff that can be easly queried to the SQL database.
Then, I need to have a column with one text field, and some buttons, in the text field the AdminUser should be able to insert some text and then click in a button to change the email/pass from the user represented in that line.
The other field I need, is a DropDownList that shows by default the Role of the user of the row, but we can choose another role and apply it, with a button in the same cell!
If I create a code-Behind query and populate the GridView, I don't know how to insert textbox's, button's, DropDownList's
If I create the GridView with the wizard, I can had TemplateFields, but I don't know how to associate the query with the BoundFiels where should be the name/email of the users.
Other problem, is that, even If I get to construct my GridView with sucess, How can I reference the row? So I can apply the changes?

I'm currently working on a project and I want to make as much things as possible performing on client side - with as little loading as possible. The project consist of three "main" pages. On one page I use jQuery DataTable plugin which is working great. One page has tabs (using jQuery). I want to put datacontrol (repeater) on this site and when user selects one item in dropdown, data in repeater loads on client side, without performing the action on server.

I want to know how we can create a table (or a layout consisting of div's) and poulate it with data from the database. We do this generally using data controls like gridview, datalist etc. But i am restricted by these controls like there is no inbuilt paging with datalist and there is no repeat column in gridview. I just want complete control over the layout as well as the data that goes into it.
I dont know how to do this. Is there anyway of doing it without using the data controls.
