View 3 RepliesUpdates to the edited item are not passing the new / updated values but rather the original values. And I can't for the life of me figure out why when I change the original value in an edit textbox and post the update the new value is not being passed. I get the original value. Perhaps fresh eyes can spot the problem. This should be super basic but apparently I'm missing something.
Here's the code for the Item and Edit templates. The code behind is below this.

i want to compare my database value with my new updated value. what should i do ? e.g : on page load i am excuting one procedure which bring 10 columns and fill it against the 10 fields using for loop on the page. then i am changing value of two columns. ok. when i press update button then there is one more procedure which updates all the new and old columns into database. Its working fine. just i want to know that, should i update only two columns(which are modified) insted of updating all 10 columns ? Is there any csharp code that brings my page load columns into array and then compare it with new ones and updates only those columns which are mismatch with array. i am not sure but there is some way to do this.

View 2 RepliesLets take an example of online ticket booking system. Many users could be booking the tickets at any point of time. a GridView displays the list of Allotted and Free seats If a seat gets booked, this information must get updated in all the opened pages in user's browser. User need not require to refresh the page to see if a seat is booked or not Should i put GridView in update panel and keep looking into the databse constantly ??? This could turn out to be a heavy work if databse is too large any other alternative?? or should i stick with the above approach....?
View 10 RepliesI'm currently working on a small project and therefore created a gridview, including one bit column which has been linked with a checkbox in both the itemtemplate as the edititemtemplate (autopostback = true).Databinding for these two checkboxes has been linked (two-way) to the bit column.Now I want to display the gridview to end-users. They should be able to just click on the checkbox so they value in the database column gets changed as well (as I want to run update queries behind it), but not passing via the command column 'EDIT'.=> problem I'm having now is that the bit column in the database doesn't get updated.
View 3 RepliesI have used the same steps that you have used on your sample for inserting, deleting and updating. This is my code
private String strConnString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["CustomerConnectionString2"].ConnectionString;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
if (!IsPostBack) {
BindData();
[Code] ....
It is deleting the data but not updating the data,it sticks to the same data after clicking on the update button...
I am trying to generate a Grid view from database, in one of my database columns the values are 'y' and 'N'. and i need to show this values in a check box .I tried to keep a check box in item template and tried to bind it, but could get much success.

How to get updated values of fields in form through InnerHTML tag?
View 1 RepliesUsing a class component, an Object data source and a formview I am successfully pulliing data from a SQL database. In some cases the rows contain one or more Null values and I would like them to be ignored completely. My simple code follows:-
<%# Eval("add_1") & ","%>
<%# Eval("Add_2") & ","%>
<%# Eval("Add_3") & ","%>
OUTPUT:-
Rose Cottage, 123 New Road, Margate,
Just dipping my toe with doing simple VB.NET stuff. Have used classic ASP, so im used to being able to place any field from a recordset whereever i want to putit , and i have just tried to recreate this event.Its got me a bit lost.. now i have read up and understand why it doesnt work - cant use DataItem in a HeaderTemplate - i get that, but how would you do something where you have complete control of the way the table is being set up? and you can use the contents of the container whereever you want, however you want?I just want to be able to get the values from database table, and put them into an html table, in a specific way.

Ive been strugglng with this one problem for a while now. I have an application as: SelectCommand="SELECT [CategoryID], [Name], [UserId] FROM [Categories] WHERE ([UserId] = @UserId) ORDER BY [Name]">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="CategoryID" QueryStringField="ID" />
</SelectParameters> [code]....
the dropdown list control will populate values from the database but when i live those 2, it won't populate any value from the database. When i remove only the
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="CategoryID" QueryStringField="ID" />
</SelectParameters>
and live ([UserId] = @UserId), i get the error : Must declare the scalar variable "@UserId".
I have a gridview with a RadioButtonList I need to populate. It is as such"
[code]....
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
View 3 RepliesI want to select all the values from a table in my database and then put each value in order into labels that are on the asp page.
I can Select all the values from that database fine but I am rather stuck as how to put the values into the individual labels? Here is the code I have connecting to my database.
[Code]....
How can I put the DateTime value into Label1 and the Decription into Label2??
I have had a nose about but can't seem to find the information I need.
I have a datalist and I am filling it using a dataadapter, dataset. So in my .ascx page, I have
<asp:datalist runat="server" id="dlProducts" repeatcolumns="2" repeatdirection="horizontal">
<itemtemplate>
<table border="0">
<tr><td><%# Eval("Item_Name") %></td></tr>
<tr><td>I have to add a picture here</td><td><%# Eval("First_Name") %></td></tr>
</table>
</itemtemplate>
</asp:datalist>
In the area where I have put a statement like "I have to add a picture here", I have write a big case statement. Like:
Case: 6 // show a picture from file1
case: 7 // show a picture from file2
Case 8: //show a picture from file3
So How do I do this here? Because I dont know how to access the datalist values from code behind.
Here is my code behind:
SQLString = "SELECT First_Name, Picture, item_name, item_id from table1 where item_id = " + request.querystring["iid"];
dataadapter daItems = new dataadapter(SQLString, "connection_name");
dataset dsItems = new dataset();
daItems.fill(dsItems);
dlProducts.datasource = dsItems();
//So at this point how do I populate the picture in the <TD> tag I mentioned earlier?
Please try to guide me how to achieve this one. my application need to do reading the PDF document and want to store the values in Database.Actually what happens is my customers sends me the OCR scanned copied in the form of PDF file. i need to read those scanned pdf files and store the customer information into my table.
View 1 RepliesHow to query a SQL database with 3 field values ( From date, To date and based on a Dropdown Selection)
I use the below code:
sqls = "SELECT * FROM QlyData where Date >='" + txtstartdate.Text +
"' and Date<='" + txtenddate.Text +
"' and '" + supportgrp.Text +
"'";
Supportgrp.text is a Dropdown selection.I get the below error:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Database'.
I wrote a select statement like
select aaaa,bbbb,cccc,dddd,eeee from sometable;
I got the values.
Now In .aspx page i wrote html tags like:
[Code]....
I have to insert the values in between <td> tags.
Is it possible to add values from different database rows to a dropdownlist?
I'm currently trying to add both ItemSizeSmall and ItemSizeMedium, but through trial and error I can still only add one row from the database. I want the dropdownlist to display "Small" and "Medium" etc.
I guess my primary question is: How do I create a database with product size attributes?
I apologize if this thread should be in another forum, but if the dropdownlist can display two database rows I'll settle with that solution.
Could the database look like this:
table1: product
PK: productID
table2: productAttribute
PK: productID
PK: attributeValueID
table3: attributeValue
PK: attributeValueID
FK1: attributeNameID
table4: attribute
PK: attributeNameID
name
If this is right: How do I make the dropdownlist display the different sizes?
i just cannot work this out... i have a gridview and when a user clicks on a row the checkbox unchecks itself... when the user clicks the row a sqldatasource.update is called from the selectedindexchanged event, problem is when it writes back to the database it writes back every checkbox as unchecked, i want just the row that's selected...
what i can't work out is i've tried putting a where clause in the sqlcommand which is something like where primarykeyID = gridview1.selectedvalue... now it won't write anything back to the database...!!!
... once i take out the where clause, it writes back to every row..!!
i need to retrieve values from the database and provide it as a report to the user.
