I'm tyring to write a simple DetailsView only used for inserting new records that will pre-fill a textbox with a query string value. Here's the DetailsView:

All I want to do is set VenueID_FK.Text to = the "VenueID" querry string. I also want the user to be able to see the VenueID number as they are filling out GridView1.
I know this is probably a simple thing, but I am very new to asp.net. I thought I could handle this in the page load event, but when I try something like this
TextBox VenueID_FK = (TextBox)DetailsView1.FindControl("VenueID_FK");
And then follow by setting the Text property programitically. I've accomplished something similar to this on a different page using a FormView, but only for ReadOnly mode and it was handled in the databound event on that page.
I get the error "The name 'DetailsView1' doesn't exist in the current context." when trying to do the above mentioned. When trying the same line in the databound event here, I get the same error.
I have a listview that has been constructed using tables. I have set the DataKeyNames="SomeTextField" among others. This column is currently not visible in the ListView.
I'd like to populate a textbox on the click of any listview record with the contents "SomeTextField" column.
I would like to dropdown box to show only starting from second row of the table. How to use data reader to do it?
View 9 RepliesI have a link button in my gridview. It is populating correctly; however, being I am populating the values in the gridview using "Eval()" method I don't know how to get the value of the selected Link Button (which is only selected by a user actually clicking
the Link Button).
The user can click on the text directly (instead of showing the "Select" auto created). I want to be able to capture the item they have clicked on's Text property.
Example:Column 1
Value1
Value2
Value3
When the click on "Value2" I want the text property to be stored in a string variable (In this case the text would be "Value2"). In the past I have captured this through GridView.SelectedValue; however, I am not using autopopulate selected button so I need to do this manually and I am unsure as to how I will do this.

View 2 RepliesI have some code in my vb.net code behind that queries a database, and if there is data, outputs it from the codebehind to a datalist on my asp.net page. In addition to sending the data to the datalist on the page, I need to take the value from "mbillaty" that is returned from the sql query, and have that value be the selected value for a drop down box also on the page. I can get either the datalist to fill, or the selected value for the dropdown box to be selected depending upon which bit of code I place before the other (ARGH), but I can't get them to both work together on the page. What am I doing wrong?

I'm encountering a strange problem. Here is the scenario. I have built a query that accepts a parameter (WHERE LIKE clause).
I've tested this within the query builder and it returns exactly the number I would expect.
I then go back to my webpage and add the following controls:
Dropdown
Gridview
the user to make a selection from the dropdown. Postback on the dropdown is enabled so the page reloads and the Gridview displays the filtered results (via an objectdatasource). I've set the parameter to the dropdown control.
The trouble is when I run the page I make the selection in the dropdown no results are displayed. Even though the text displayed in the dropdown control is exactly the same as I inputted into the query builder when testing it.
So far i've populated my grid view with my roomID. however using data reader I don't seem to be able to get more than one column to auto generate even though i'm now looking for three values : SELECT tt_roomEquip.roomID, tt_room.roomCapacity, tt_equip.equipTitle is my select bit of the sql, though it's only putting roomID into my grid view.
