I m uploading a text file. I want to read that text file line by line and I want to save that data into database if there are no errors in that text file. I have 5 different columns in database and I want to take those 5 columns data in the text file and insert into respective columns.
For this, which is the best way to do. Can we read and insert data into respective fields in no time.
In this case I'm having, the ItemTemplate for various fields in my DetailsView (2 in my case) does not show up, but when you click the edit button, the EditItemTemplate shows up. I played with it, moving it around. No matter where I put it, one of the fields did not show up.
To get even stranger (and don't ask me how I came up with this), if I put a dummy boundfield BEFORE it, the ItemTemplate shows up. But this is totally absurd.
I work with Visual studio 2005 and Sql server data base. I extract 1 million rows from a database and I put the rows in a Sql table. With a simple direct extraction, in a few minutes I complete the operation:
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(query, cnSql) cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() cmd.Dispose().
But, if I must select and modify some fields between extraction and introduction, it takes a lot of time! I work in this way. I extract rows from Dbase, Table1, and I put all into a Collection using dataReader:
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(query, cnSql) Dim coll As New Collection coll.Clear() Dim dr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader() I replace some fields with the string "YES". Dim toRepl As String = "" If dr.HasRows Then Do While dr.Read toRepl = dr(5).ToString If Len(toRepl) <= 3 Then ToRepl = "YES" collPrel.Add(dr(0).ToString) collPrel.Add(dr(1).ToString) .................. .............. collPrel.Add(toRepl) collCount = collCount + 1 Loop End If dr.Close() cmd.Dispose() Now, I insert all into a SQL Table2: Dim a As String = "", b As String = "", c As String = "" etc. For i = 1 To collPrel.Count Step 6 a = collPrel.Item(i).ToString b = collPrel.Item(i + 1).ToString .............. ............... f = collPrel.Item(i + 5).ToString queryIns = "INSERT INTO Tab (name, adress, etc) VALUES ('" & a & "', '" & b & "', '" & c & "', etc. ) Dim cmdIns As New SqlCommand(queryIns, cnSql) cmdIns.CommandTimeout = 600 cmdIns.ExecuteNonQuery() cmdIns.Dispose() Next
This way to work goes right but it is necessary a lot of time for completing the operation.
I got a problem about finding controls in Edit/Insert Itemtemplate inside a DetailsView.Here is the code.I put a Label (id= "Label6") to test whether the findcontrol method works or not. Unfortunately, I almost tried every means but still coudn't find it.
I have a problem with DetailsView linked with Database, DetailsView is Insert/Edit enabled, and adding/ediditng data works, however........ when I add a new record (DetailsView in Insert mode) and press INSET instead going to record I have just created in Read-Only Mode it shows me blank form, it looks that the "linking" field is null.
I add a table or div inside to datalist itemtemplateı want to change dynamicly table or div id's value from codebehind databound event. ex : I want to add itemindex value to table or div id which is inside itemtemplate
On my DetailsView for inserting, I have a field "manager code". When the user types in the code, I want another field "manager name" to be populated based on a lookup table in the database. I have done this on a FormView using code behind and "ontextchanged". How can I do this in DetailsView?
i have one task. i store the table records in tab delimiter then i want read that txt file data's line by line via asp.net application codebehind file after that i want insert into another table
I am working on a web app for an online photo album. It is the last project in Scott Mitchell's book: "ASP.Net 2.0 in 24 hours".
I am creating a page where users can enter new photo images. The functionality for uploading an image will come later. I am working on just inserting a new row into the Pictures table with an optional category, a required title and a required description.
I am getting an error when I try to insert a new row.
Here is a screenshot of the page with a shot of the dropdown list.
The Categories are user-specific. I am getting the correct values retrieved.

There are two pretty simple database tables involved here.
NOTE: The CategoryID and PIctureID are both autoincrement integer columns.

The page uses a DetailsView that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Pictures table. (The DetailsView's Default Mode property is set to "Insert". The "Enable Inserting" checkbox is also checked.)
The dropdown list uses a dropdown control that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Categories table.
When the "Insert" button is clicked the CategoryID value associated with selected (Category) Name on the dropdown list will be used along with the Title and Description values to insert a row in to the Pictures table. (If no Category value is selected, then a null value will be used for the CategoryID. This is OK because the CategoryID column in the Pictures table allows nulls.)
My problem is that I am getting this error:
Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'Pictures' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.
(FYI: I have the full version of both Visual Studio and SQL Server.)
If I have created a sub (VB) that creates a set of CheckBox controls at runtime, how would you suggest that I then read these controls into a 4 column table?
Protected Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) For i As Int32 = 0 To 9 Dim chk As New CheckBox() chk.ID = String.Format("chk{0}", i) Form.Controls.Add(chk) chk.Text = String.Format("column{0}", i) Next i End Sub
I have a detailsview in insert mode. I want to prompt the user to enter data in all fields, if left empty. Could someone please find a few minutes to show me how to do it?
I have done the itemtemplate and edittemplate,when I click on the button in itemtemplate, the edittemplate will show.But that row in itemtemplate will disappear.How can I keep that row in itemtemplate and ecotent in edittemplate both appear?
I have grid view in ASP.Net 3.5. I need to add multiple blank rows in a gridview and then have to save them in database. How can I do that in most simplest way?
I have some ImageField in my DetailsView and when I changed it to Insert mode then ImageField is also became the textbox that allow you to type something, and my question is how I can make ImageField to be read only when I changed DetailsView to Insert mode?
I'm trying to display data from this table in a gridview using template fields. Here's an example of a label in my item template
[Code]....
When i bind data to this grid view, i get an error saying column "PM 2" was not found. For some reason, the program is dropping the .5 from the column name. I am exploring the possibility of replacing the number with alphabets only but this may not be possible as the end user may not find it user friendly. Is there a way for me to get around this problem? I get a similar problem with B(a)p, it drops everything after the B. Any ideas on how to get the gridview to bind column names with special chars in it?
I have a gridview that is populating from a SQL DB and working fine. However, based upon certain data I find in fields in the SQL table, I want to place a 'n' or a 'y' in extra columns in the gridview that I am assuming need to be templatefields. My thought was I could maybe add 8 template columns and then I could put a 'y' in the appropriate column based upon the data I find the table. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to do this. I want to do this at rowdatabound time ( i think) but I just cannot find out how to, in my code, put that 'y' in the columns. Is this the right way to do this or do I need to do it another way? How do I get that 'y' in the proper column?
