I need to do this,
1) Validate if the user has entered numeric using front end validation
2) Read the edited values by user for each row and insert into the database in server side

i have a gridview with 2 columns (A & B), on both columns i change it to TemplateField (TextBox).
Now on whatever row on column A, i want to validate the user entry when user leave the cell, how to achieve that ?
Based on user entry on column A, i will do some data lookup and get a value returned from the server, how to tell the gridview to replace the value on column B (on the same row) based on the value returned from the server.

As you can see the second cell in each row is a EditButton, and the only cell that could be updated by users is the last one, DataField = TUDTIThreadActualStatus. I just want to know what could be the easiest way to validate the user entry when the row is in edit mode. Is there anyway to validate the textbox control with a validation control or is better to used code behind. Either way may you explain and drop some code if posible.

Sep 2, 2010I am using a gridview that contains an asp:fileupload so that when the user clicks 'edit' they can upload a pdf. I need to validate the size of the file, it needs to be less then a certain size. I tried to use a custom validator, but it never get called when the user updates. How can I validate the file size on edit in the gridview?

The gridview lives in a formview, which lives in another formview.
Inside one column is an end date. This column has a textbox which gets it's value when I choose a date from a calendar control. However, when I choose a date from the calendar control, the program crashes instead of populating the text box.

Jan 27, 2010In my webpage I have a Formview bounded by sqldatasource. I can perfectly Update data from it. In the same page I have a gridview bounded by some other sqldatasource. I have to give user new record option from gridview.
I know that there is no default property to insert new record with the help of gridview until we provide some other way by coding but I don't want to do that.
Therefore I have taken a textbox with the validation field and a button outside the gridview to insert new record into gridview and refresh it.
I don't want to allow user to add empty text using textbox thatswhy I have validated that textbox.
Problem:
If user has the scenario to update only the Formview then he cannot because there is a validation there with the textbox.
If I remove the validation then user is able to update FormView perfectly but may add empty text from the textbox.
if the user allowed to update FormView and to add data with the help of textbox and gridview get refresh. If user can do only one task also either to update FormView or to add data from textbox to refresh gridview.
The task is most important for me and I have only 12 hours to complete this task or you can say the time limit is going to expire.

May 23, 2010I have a gridview with 2 chosen colums, and i want one of them to be a link. When i click the link, a formView with all colums of that record will appear in the same page.
I have menage to do this but then i had the formView in another aspx page. Now i want the formView to be visible in the same page as the gridView.
How can i menage that? Do i need a Panel or something?

Forms Data Controls :: Validate A Dynamically Generated Textbox In A Gridview's Cell?
Jan 28, 2010I have a gridview each line has 4 linkbuttons - Edit , Update , Cancel , Delete and a few columns with data...For example TeamName and TeamEmail, and a hidden column that contains a validator (for ease of validating controls that are found on the same row , same naming container)
When Edit button is Clicked , the specific line goes into editing mode , Texboxes are created for TeamName and for TeamEmail .
I create dinamically (code behind ) a new textbox that reads the value from the TeamEmail textbox , i give it a new id (let's say "Email") , add that email to the controltovalidate property of my validator , and call the validate() method of the validator.
Everything works fine when i modify the value in a worng format , the validator err message appears , when i modify the TeamEmail value to a good email format , the validator property isvalid becomes true , and the update is running , but my textbox is empty :( updating the TeamEmail value to null.

This time, I have a FormView that includes a HyperLink, which is displayed when page comes up.
The user will click on this HyperLink to open a NEW GridView to be placed in the bottom of the page.

How do I get the Gridview to update when the panel is updated?

Mar 20, 2010I have an ObjectDataSource giving me data similar to: OrderNumber OrderDate OrderValue OrderItems The first three are simple data types and the last has multiple occurrences of another class: OrderLineNumber OrderItem OrderQuantity The ObjectDataSource will only contain one row (which might make things simpler). So, there will be one OrderNumber, OrderDate and OrderValue; and then several occurrences of OrderItems (each containing OrderLineNumber, OrderItem and OrderQuantity).
I am displaying OrderNumber, OrderDate and OrderValue in the FormView - that work's fine, as expected. I have placed a GridView within the FormView and am failing miserably to get it to bind to OrderItems. I have tried the obvious things like specifying "odsWhatever.OrderItems" as the DataSourceID for the GridView, but to no avail.
