FormsAuthentication: How To Specify Different Cookie Names For Specific Subdirectories/MVC Controllers

Sep 14, 2010

I'm using FormsAuthentication (with cookies) for users authentication, with the default cookie name (".ASPXAUTH").What I need is a different login system for the "/Admin/" virtual directory (backed by an ASP.NET MVCcontroller, "AdminController")... as if the "/Admin/" directory was another web application, but without creating another web project inside my solution.

How can I customize, at runtime, the cookie name used by FormsAuthentication? The FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName is readonly (and static...), and can be customized only once inside the web.config.Should I create a custom FormsAuthenticationModule?A controller filter, like the following, could be great:

[CustomFormsAuthenticationCookie("NewCookieName")]
public class AdminController : Controller
{

VS 2012 - Creating Web Form With Specific Names

Aug 1, 2013

I created tracking software, and now I need to create hundreds of web forms with specific names (within the same solution). Can this be accomplished with managed code or does it all have to be done manually? In case you are wondering what this is for - its to do market research using the keywords in unique URLs...so I just need to be able to create hundreds of them at once to hand to my classified ad poster.

UrlRewriter - Prevent Rules For Subdirectories?

Nov 3, 2010

I'm using UrlRewriter.net, mentioned on ScottGu's Blog. I've built a site around this and now I'm having problems with subdirectories. The problem is, I want to exclude a directory and all subdirectories/files within it from rewriting. The rules I have are:

<rewrite url="~/(.*)/Uploads/Images/(.+)?" to="~/Uploads/Images/$2" processing="stop" />
<rewrite url="~/(.*)/Uploads/(.+)/(.+)?" to="~/Uploads/$2/$3" processing="stop" />
<rewrite url="~/(.*)/Uploads/(.+)?" to="~/Uploads/$2" />

The problem is, although I can access files in the uploads directory (/Uploads/myfile.ext) and see the directory lists for direct subdirectories (/Uploads/mySubdirectory/), anything in /Uploads/mySubdirectory/, eg: /Uploads/mySubdirectory/myfile.ext returns a 404, because the UrlRewriter is messing with the Urls. I've tried these rules in different orders to no avail.Has anyone used this before? There must be a way to get it to work.

Why The CSS Style Is Not Applied In Webpages Within Subdirectories

Sep 27, 2010

In the root of my domain i have the CSS file style.css and the masterpage file site.master.The link to the CSS file within the site.master is

<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />

The problem is that webpages contained within subdirectories do not inherit the CSS file.What am i doing wrong here?If i copy the style.css file to the subdirectories everything works like a charm...UPDATE: If i change the path to /style.css or to ~/style.css the style is Not applied also to the webpages within the root folder.

DataSource Controls :: Take Names From The Table And Do Another Select Based On That List Of Names?

Jun 1, 2010

I have been working with this database for some time. Here is the situation...

I inherited a MS SQL database that has hundreds of tables with similar data. For instance:

FordTampa_customer is a table,

ChevyAtlanta_customer is a table, etc....

All of the columns are the same...just different tables with their own ID field. All I have done...Inside of another database id is created a table called 'Customer' and added an 'Dealer ID' column along with the rest of the other columns in the other tables...

So the combination of the 'Dealer ID' and the 'ID' field are unique.....I know...its not the best way to do things...but I cannot change the old data structure because I cannot have access to it. I am give back-ups on a weekly basis, so this is all I have to work with.

All right, on to the real point of my post...

Currently, I have an application that I use to select all of the data from the 'Ford_customers','Chevy_customers',etc... and inserts them into my new main 'Customer' table. I do this by selecting the table names, bind it to an arraylist, loop through the list and execute an insert statement.

I do this in VB.NET, but I would prefer to do it in a Stored procedure of some kind....I just am not sure how to accomplish it. I use this syntax to get my list of tables:

[Code]....

I am not sure how to take those names from the table and do another select based on that list of names.

Setting Up A Full Copy Of A Site In One Of Its Own Subdirectories?

Feb 21, 2011

I've been asked to implement the French translation of an ASP.NET 3.5 website. Each translation is going into its own separate website Unfortunately the previous programmer did not implement localization, so each site will have its separate set of files - this is not negotiable.

This French version will also go into its own website (www.mysite.ca), but for the moment I have been asked to put it into a sub-directory of the current site, called /CA I do not want to start messing around with file paths (for navigation and images), because the plan is to move the files in this sub-directory into a separate location in a few weeks. So the only alternative seems to be to move a copy of the site into the sub-directory and set it up as a separate application.What is the best way to set this up? Since the files in both sites belong to the same namespace and have the same names, how to avoid naming conflicts?

State Management :: Updating Cookie / Change The Value In A Cookie?

May 10, 2010

I want to change the value in a cookie:
HttpCookie hc = new HttpCookie("HiddenColumns");
hc.Value = customView.HiddenFields;
hc.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(365);
Response.SetCookie(hc);

Or this way:

Response.Cookies["HiddenColumns"].Value = customView.HiddenFields;;
Response.Cookies["HiddenColumns"].Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(365);

But when I retrieve the cookie value, it is still old, unless I do postback. I don't want to use Redirect.

WCF / ASMX :: Cookie Refuses To Get Set When Asking For A Cookie From Webservice

Jun 8, 2010

I'm trying to use a webservice that first expects the clients to login, to retrieve a cookie to re-use.
This is done through a login(string user, string pass) method on the webservice.

Doing this through a browser works fine, we get a cookie, and we can see the cookie via Fiddler or whatvever proxysniff thingy.

Time to do the same in ASP.Net, so we use the WSDL and generate a nice proxy class, and it works fine to call the login() method, but Never Ever does a cookie get set !

I already used the "cookiejar" technique - which means i create an instance of a CookieContainer and assign it to the proxyclass like this;

var cookies = new CookieContainer(3);

How To Find The Cookie In IEs Cookie-store

Jun 14, 2010

I am a bit baffled here; using IE7, ASP.NET 2.0 and Cassini (the VS built-in web server; although the same thing seems to be true for "real" applications deployed in IIS) I am looking for the session-id-cookie. My test page shows a session id (by printing out Session.SessionId) and Response.Cookies.Keys contains ASP.NET_SessionId. So far so good.

But I cannot find the cookie in IEs cookie-store! Nor does "remove all cookies" reset the session (as it does in FF)... So where - I am tempted to write that four letter word - does IE store that bloody cookie? Or am I missing something? By the way there is no hidden field with a session id either, as far as I can see. If I check in FF there is a cookie called ASP.NET_SessionId as I would expect. And as mentioned above deleting that cookie does start a new session; as I would expect.

MVC :: How To Show ViewData In Specific ContentPlaceHolder In Specific MasterPage

Feb 1, 2010

This is my Controller Action which takes a Page entity from database and shows it in the Show.aspx view using the "Site.Master" master page:

This is the "Show" view rendering "Page.Title" in the "MainContent" content placeholder:

And this is the "Site.Master"

Using this approach i can show "Page.Title" in Show.aspx using any master page that has a "MainContent" placeholder, but my real goal is if i can when i choose the MasterPage for that particular Page to also see a list of available ContentPlaceHolders and when i choose one to then render "Page.Title" in that particular ContentPlaceHolder.
