C# - Mvc 3 Handleerror Global Filter Always Shows IIS Status 500 Page?
Jan 30, 2011
I have tried everything, even uninstalling asp.net mvc3, and I can't get HandleError global filter working.I have set up the HandleError filter in the Global.asax:
public static void RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilterCollection filters)
{
filters.Add(new HandleErrorAttribute());
}
Also I have CustomErrors enabled (it does not matter if i set defaultRedirect="Error" or not, I think that is in the docs because is needed for older versions of mvc):
<customErrors mode="On" />
Trying to navigate through the page until the error gets raised, wether you do from localhost or using the hostname, inside the development server or IIS 7.5, it always redirects to a standard status 500 page, instead of my custom Error.cshtml view that I have created in Shared. Here is Error view code:
@model System.Web.Mvc.HandleErrorInfo
@{
ViewBag.Title = "Oooops";
}
<h2>Ooops Something really bad happened!</h2>
Also I have noted that if I create a new ASP.NET MVC3 project and then select "Internet Application" template, and just enabling customErrors in that project, then the HandleError filter starts working just fine, however using the empty MVC3 template does not.I want to clarify, that indeed I can see the error view being processing when debugging, however the browser always display Error 500 page.

I have a form that works just fine, problem is that if user leave form open for more than 20 30 min and then click a button on that form the browsers status line shows "Error in page", user then must refresh the page in order for the page function.

I have not found any way to intercept or override calls to createquery in my datacontext. What I am trying to do is to allow for global filters, i.e. if a user has access to only a subset of entities I would like to filter away these on the lowest level possible. Is there a way to do this? I have tried several apporaches but no one worked out. Perhaps I lack patience or is just plain stupid, but I think it should be possible! So if anyone has any pointers to where

I am experimenting with the relationship between Elmah and MVC's plumbed in exception handling, and am surprised at the outcome of the following code. This is a brand new, straight from project template MVC application, and I have only added Elmah modules and handlers to the web.config.
[Code]....
Break when error is thrown is set to off, yet the debugger still breaks. When I continue I get a YSOD, and an Elmah error log, but it seems HandleError is doing nothing.
JUST IN I didn't think I had to have custom errors turned on, as I thought that was only for 'my' unhandled errors.

My Question is related to access the rows in one page and putting conditions in another page.I need to check whether a datagrid has row in it or not. DataGrid is in .aspx page. Based on this checking i need to write a condition in .ascx page.the .ascx on which condition is checked is linked to .aspx page. Meaning that UserControl1.ascx is Register with Default.aspx pageI am using VS 2003let me know if any input is needed from my side.

I have setup a custom 404 page custom404.aspx that returns a "404 Not Found" error correctly, however the non-existant page that was initially requested returns a "302 Found" status.So when I test thispagedoesnotexist.aspx, it returns a "302 Found" then the custom404.aspx loads and returns a "404 Not Found" status.I want to make sure that search spiders/bots understand that the requested page does not exist and should not show up in any search results.

Does [HandleError] attribute in MVC replaces the traditional try catch exception handling?
As I have seen codes in controllers where the top line of code is [HandleError] also I have not seen much of try catch in the code of the application I am working on.

I have a page url say [URL]. So in that page I have links like "About us" "Contact us" etc. So when it comes to development, I have folders called "ContactUS" "AboutUS" and in them I have pages called "ContactUs.aspx" and "AboutUs.aspx". So by default, when you click on the "About us" link from the website, you would be directed to a url, [URL] But in my case, for any web pages, I dont want to show the last part of the page name. So the url should look like [URL] So how do I do this?

I'm writing an HTTP handler in ASP.NET 4.0 and IIS7 and I need to generate a file-not-found condition.
I copied the following code from Mathew McDonald's new book, Pro ASP.Net 4 in C# 2010. (The response variable is an instance of the current HttpResponse.)
response.Status = "File not found";
response.StatusCode = 404;
However, I found that the first line generates the run-time error HTTP status string is not valid.
If, instead of the lines above, I use the following:
response.Status = "404 Not found";
Then everything seems to work fine. In fact, I even see that response.StatusCode is set to 404 automatically.
My problem is that I don't want this to fail on the production server. So I'd feel much better if I could understand the "correct" way to accomplish this. Why did the first approach work for Mathew McDonald but not for me? And is the second approach always going to be reliable?

I've searched around a lot, and honed this problem down to this case: I'm using the PRG pattern, pragmatically I'm using the same DTO for my post/get actions. It looks like when I have the dto with the data annotation attributes in the get action parameter list, the validation is always displaying errors, every time on initial page load. In some cases this could be desired behavior if you put asterisks in the error message, but how do I get rid of it?

Is there a convenient way to change the style of a menu item in an MVC master page? I want to show which menu item is currently being active. So far, the only way I could think of was a brute force way, to duplicate the menu in multiple master pages, and mark one as selected:

I just upgraded a web project from VS2008 to VS2010 Ultimate (Windows7 64bit, IE8/Google Chrome. When I run the web project in the development server (by hitting F5) everything acts like it is supposed to except everything comes up blank. Even the directory structure page is blank, just an empty HTML open and close shell. I get no errors no indications of failure, nothing. When I try to use google chrome I get the same blank page no matter where I navigate to, even if I try to navigate to a non-existant location on the dev server. I know the code compiles and acts correctly because I can deploy it to our QA servers without issue.

I know there is a couple answered questions on here regarding "request scoped" globals, but I want to nit-pick on something specifically and maybe squeeze some extra enlightenment out of one or two of you.I have an ASP.NET C# Website and a static Dictionary of objects (loaded from DB once on Application start). Each page request will need to do a lookup in the Dictionary (based on a key derived from the request url/etc) and get the appropriate object.The issue is I'm trying to maximize efficiency by reducing the lookups to the Dictionary per Request. Doing just a single lookup within a Page itself is easy enough and I can pass the object to sub controls, etc too.. but global.asax is separate from the Page and it also needs to use the object (in Application_BeginRequest and Session_Start).
So is doing a Dictionary lookup once in Application_BeginRequest, once (when necessary) in Session_Start and once in the Page negligible speed wise, even if there are many requests coming in every second?I would like it if I could just have a Request scoped global variable that I can easily call upon.. the only one I see available though is HttpContext.Current.Items and that is a Dictionary itself.Am I beingridiculously nit-picky with my concern over efficiency? or will these milliseconds (nanoseconds?) get me in the long run when more and more requests are being made?
PS. I currently only have around 100 objects in the Dictionary although this may increase in the future.

Protected
Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender

ByVal e
As System.EventArgs)
Handles
Me
.Load
'Check for UserName
If Context.User.Identity.Name

Nothing
Or IsDBNull(Context.User.Identity.Name)
Or Context.User.Identity.Name =
String.Empty
Then
Response.Redirect(
"~/Login.aspx"
)
End
If
Session(
"UserName"
) = Context.User.Identity.Name
UserName.Text = Session(
"UserName"
)
UserIDValue.Text = Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey.ToString()
End
Sub
Everything was working fine when I had two separate applications (two web.config files) using the same data base and the same "applicationName" in the web.config files...............

We have a webpage with dotnet framework 3.5 and c# as backend language.
This page is triggering a load process from Excel to database. User want to see the status of the load process like how many records have been loaded every 1 minute.
User want to see it without the page refresh plus, technically it restart the load process also.
