-continuation of my question:
example for HumanResource. if an employee's contract is about to be expired, the system will notify the HR system with a messagebox and at the same time with a sound/alert, like a "buzz" or "beep" to notify the HR that the employee should renew their contract.
I want to create an alert like that of facebook (the number in tiny red square at the top). I am googled a lot but i couldnt come up with anything which proved useful. I believe similar sort of notification alert has been used in this site as well. (new personal messages).

All ASP.Net client validation messages can be shown as an alert by setting the ShowMessageBox="True" property on the ValidationSummary control. This works fine for anything that happens on the client.
For the custom validators that validate server-side I had assumed that what would happen is that when the page is returned to the browser, ASP.Net would inject some javascript to show the alert box. However this isnt the case.
If you had relied on the message box to show detail and just have a * next to the erroneous field (as per my clients req's) then it wont work as intended. Does anyone have a solution for doing this? What I want is a way to possibly override the ValidationSummary control to inject javascript onto the page or something like this.
I am trying to display an error to the user of a web page using a javascript alert popup, I currently have the following code to clean the error string:
errorMessage.Replace("'", "'")
But this is not sufficient as some illegal characters are not being removed, is there a static method somewhere in the framework that will format my string for clean insertion into html?Update: my initial question was slightly ambiguous. the string needs to be valid as in alert('this is some 'illegal text' that will not popup');I will try Server.HtmlEncode, hopefully it will do the trick.
I have a requirement in my asp.net web application, to send emails that are marked as "Follow up" with the "Reply By" property set. I was able to set both these parameters as explained in the article below:

And the Outlook is showing the email as "Flagged" with the reply by time as set in the code. But the problem is that the outlook doesn't show any alert as the "reply by" time approaches.
This alert appears properly when any "Flagged" email is sent from microsoft outlook, so I am not sure why the emails sent from the web application dont' show the alert?

But i have some problem with it.If i try to make a textbox with MasekdEditExtender for time input, so i can give a invalid time e.g. 25:60 and there is no error message of validator.So, how can i avoid inputs like 25:60? View 2 RepliesI have ap age I wrote that is a dashboard, so I have the whole page refresh itself rather frequently so the data doesn't get stale. The guys in our dispatch though who are using have lot's of audible alerts, so they keep their volumes way up, and even if it is in the background, the page makes a noise every time it refreshes, and it is driving some of them nuts I guess.

i have a control that shows me Messages. it sits in an update panel and constantly polls the server for new messages. This is accessed by multiple users.. My problem is that i need to be able to play a sound when new messages are found.. i have been able to "sorta" do this using soundplayer.. every time it polls it is checking timestamps to determine if a message was added in the last x seconds.. if so.. ding.. that works great.. UNTIL you put it out on the server.. from what i gather.. that will only dingat the server.. (great for the server room... not so much for the users).. i have been googling for hours now.. it seems theres 3.4 billion answers for stuff i don't think im looking for.. but i can't seem to find anything that really does this. I need the Code behind to cause the playing of the sound.. and for all users..

I need to know how to make the paging so that they are in "chunks" of a max of 10 page numbers being displayed at a time.Then if they select a page number, it will show the previous x pages and the next y pages (within the 10 chunk range). similar to google paging I guess. Not using pagedDataSource/gridview/gridlist! This is just purely getting the page numbers.
