I want to run code at the server(sql update) on a client button click, but i dont want a postback (more specifically, page flicker or loss of scrolling position).
How would I do this?
i am not sure if my design have flaw but would like to know what others have to say, i am in a situation where i am trying to acheive two things in one click.
using : asp.net web form
i have a web form with few textbox and a gridview control and a button.
if i click on the button i am executing two things
1) asynchronously get data from server to client (working great) and able to display the data in the textboxes.
2) same click i want to bind the gridview.

2) server side code to bind the gridview.
PROBLEM:
if i have onClientClick="return LoadDataById(); then it executes ONLY ajax code and does not execute server side but if have onClientClick="LoadDataById(); then it executes client and server but textbox value wipeout. (the textbox value popuplate through ajax)

Now I must run cmdSave_Click() before the cmdConfirm.Attributes.Add even though both is for same button anyway. I know that client side script will try to run first but I must run the cmdSave_Click event first to save the data. Aftre that cmdConfirm.Attributes will send the Name to the next page using a Javascript function where the stored values(stored using cmdSave_Click) will be used. I have no other choice. I cannot run the Javascript function first as it will happen before the data is stored. And also I cannot use another page as all has to be performed in one page so that user will not have to click Save twice. Can anyone tell me How I can delay the cmdConfirm.Attributes.Add until the cmdSave_Click is performed.
I am new to asp.net, so this might be a basic question. But I am struggling on this for more time... I have loaded a COM object in Server script using code behind (C#) and that COM object will trigger events in some random interval. I need to update the client page whenever I receive an event from the COM object from server side (code behind).My question is, Is there a way to make the client page do postback from the code behind(C#)? ie., The client page needs to be updated whenever an event occurs in the server. Is that possible? The com event does not trigger a postback since it only occurs in the server and not in the client.

Up to this its working fine but when no textbox updated then no need to go in for loop so i am looking for confiramtion before updating rows please help me how to do that becausei am less aware with javascript. another problem is textbox value disappear when page index changed how i can retain that values.

I want to edit the grid view columns in which user click the edit button he will edit the column in the grid and after that i want to add update button so that when he clicks on updates button after editing the row. When the page is shown, the textbox are filled correctly, this textbox are filled with the "primernombre" and "segundonombre" properties from the persona class. After this, If I change the textbox, and after click the update button, I need to update the persona class with the changes from the textboxes, then I call a ActualizarPersona method for updating the database. I have a page with about 8 dropdowns at the top, and a gridview at the bottom. The user will select values from the dropdowns and then I want to populate the grid. I would like not to do a postback when filling the grid, so I'd like to have an html input button which calls a web method. My web method accepts an array of parameters (i.e., the dropdown values), passes these to a stored proc and returns a List (Of myClass). I then want to bind the List to the gridview. First question: Is this possible?
Second question: I need to pass the dropdown values to the web method. So I need a javascript function which looks at each dropdown, gets the value, and puts it in an array, then passes this array to my Web method. The web method needs to know which value goes with which parameter, to feed the stored proc...so am I locking myself into a situation where the ORDER of the parameters matters, and is there a better way?
i have a buton with some button1_click event code. as is it works just fine, however when i add client side script, essentially a confirm with yes/no this code is not executed. how do i work around this i am using ajax i want to keep UseSubmitBehaviour to false. I am very new at this so there is a very good chance i am missing something.

If i've the button outside an update panel (basically i'm using RadAjaxPanel by Telerik) it is working fine. But when the button is inside an ajax panel, even if i click OK for deleting the records the server side code is not called.

Im using two update panels here, when i click "Button2" then "UpdatePanel2" was refreshed, if i click "Button1" then both update panel were refreshed, but my need is if i click "Button1" then "UpdatePanel1" have to be refreshed.
