i need an intaller program that allows me to write code(c# or vb.net) to be executed during the installation. the reason is that i want to check if the current account does have writing permission or not. if she is not then the installation should get aborted. also the installer should create a default uninstaller.

By default, when I install my web app using my web setup project, in the Installation Address folder dialog window, the default Application Pool is DefaultAppPool. It has been stated in the MSDN documentation that we can change this default TARGETAPPPOOL, say to "ASP.NET V2.0". Here is the excerpt from MSDN... "The Application Pool list shows the available application pools on the target computer, and the default setting is named DefaultAppPool. To change the default application pool in your Web setup projects, you can use a post-build action to update the name of the application pool in the MSI." I am working on a setup package that installs a web site on IIS7 and IIS6. I've already made it for IIS7, now I need to make it for IIS6. But I am working under windows 7 so I can't install IIS6 on it. Any way, I have to test my setup project. What are the ways to do it (preferrably free and legal ;) ) ? I can think of a remote connection to a machine that already has IIS6 and using a virtual machine, for example virtualbox.org . But even though virtualbox.org is free, WinXP with IIS6 isn't ;) .

View 10 RepliesI have 2 machines on a domain. The first machine has IIS 6. 0 inatalled on it, whereas the second machine has published web content.
On the local machine ie. Web server i have configured the website like "A Share located on another computer" Eg: //Machine2/Application1. The pubished web content is inside a shared folder on the remote machine. Finally when i run the application in browser(IE 7.0) i get the following error.

View 2 RepliesI'm having trouble setting up a custom NEW User Screen. Here is my situation, I have a Request for Access Screen that uses the CreateNewUser Wizard Control. I want to leave the Question and Answer for this, however I also want a custom NEW User Setup which I build myself to allow the system administrators to setup users, but for this setup I don't want the administrators to have to pick the question and answer for the NEW user, so I would like to bypass this for this setup. However, my Membership.CreateUser keeps asking for it. How can I accomplish this? I've included a copy of my current web.config file. You will notice a AspNetAdminMemberhip which I use to allow the System Administrators to reset passwords.

We have built an ASP.NET application in 4.0 (we can change it to 3.5 if necessary) with a SQL Server database.
I am looking to create an installation package (exe or msi) so that I can provide this file to my clients and they can install it on all of their laptops. This asp.net application will be running on laptops that don't have access to the internet. Some of these laptops have XP Home, Win 7 Home, and other windows operating systems and not all of them have IIS installed. Is there some sort of simple application that I can use to create an Installer application where it will install IIS or some other web server, SQL Express, and .NET framework 4.0. If these applications are installed already, then it shouldn't install it.
I am working in asp.net application and need to download an installer package from the webserver to the client machine.My installer would contain..
1.Drivers(i.e exe file) for one hardware machine.[IT shouuld automatically run and install in the program file]
2.I have to register MSCOMM32.ocx.Its entry would go into the registry.(like manually we do Regsvr32 path of OCX to register it)
And, I want that above both should done within a single installer package.
But,how to do these things within .Net applications.
I have installed Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition along with SQL Server Express 2008 on Windows Vista and Windows 7. On Windows Vista, when I click the "ASP.Net Configuration" icon in the Solution Explorer and then click on the "Security" link, a new ASPNETDB.MDF file is created in the App_Data folder of any new project I have open. The same actions on my "Windows 7 Ultimate" machine will result in a message along the lines of "Your Data Source is not configured properly. This may be because the server has an invalid name or you do not have the proper credentials or you do not have the proper permissions"(not at Windows 7 machine right now so this isn't verbatim)
