Installation :: How To Open Aspx In Localhost When Using Iis

this is my first post and you can consider as someone with little knowlage in web development , after stuggling i figured out how to install or activate iis 7 on my vista home primeum , with asp.net 3.5 , when i type http://localhost i see the welocme screen of iis 7 , i did this steps inorder to see how a comy for my website look like after i recieved it from the developer by email. i put a copy in a foler in the c://inetpub/wwwroot
in adminstrative tool i opend iis7, under site i right clicked on (default web site) and i clicked (add to virtual directory )where i definded allias and the path for my website folder ( where i stored it in D drive), then i open firefox browser and typed[URL] , nothing showed up in the brower and there was error message, i tried to choose add application instead of add to vitual directoy and defined the allian and path again, guess what i could see my website .
now i recieved the final copy of my website from the developer and i'm so eager to see it after making the impovement , i can not open it , i repeat the same steps as above , i could not open it and i do not know what is wrong or what i missed ,
the error massage i recieved is as follow

I am running on windows XP IIS 5.1
When I try to go into localhost in IE it works fine but in Firefox it asks me to enter user name and password.
In my IIS configuration I have ticked to use Anonymoous access under Authentication.

I have hosted my project in the remote server. i pasted all the dlls & all the necessary files into inetpub->wwwroot ->httpdocs->(pasted all files). In the server we have .net framework 3.5 and IIS 6.0
Now I just want to check whether my files are running locally on the server. So I did the following. Just opened the IIS, made the httpdocs folder as a virtual directory. And then I clicked the httpdocs.It displayed all the files it has in the right side pane. Then I right clicked the default.aspx and then I clicked browse. Now the browser opened with the URL http://localhost/httpdocs/default.aspx. But I could not able to see the aspx page.It just shows "The page is not found"
But when I tried the same steps for opening a .html page it works fine (http://localhost/httpdocs/test.html) I can able to view the html pages.
Whether I need to configure anything on the IIS.... What should I do to view the .aspx files

I inherit an ASP.Net web site from my predecessor, it does not have a .csproj file or .sln file and it's not controlled by version control system. I install SVN server from CollabNet and use AnkhSvn as client since it integrates with VS.Net well, but when I try to open a subversion project, it must be a solution or project, can not be a website, are there any workarounds?

I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed properly?

We have an internal ASP.Net 3.5 application that opens Pervasive SQL databases, reads the data, and then closes the connection. Unfortunately, when the user exits the application, and even when they close their browser, the w3wp process seems to be holding the PSQL database connections open, which is causing licensing issues for us. I would like the w3wp process to release the database connections once the last user has exited from the ASP.Net application. How can I get w3wp to release the connections?
Someone told me that the Powershell command, "gps w3wp | kill" will stop the w3wp process. Is there any way I can automate this, so that the process will be killed automatically when the last user exits our ASP.Net application?

I have a client that currently has a comprehensive php website (with a huge amount of functionality built in).
We have been requested to link into our c#/SQL server application and pull information from the SQL database and display this on the existing website.
I would like to do this as aspx pages. However, I do not want to re-create the complete existing website. I would like to add the aspx functionality onto the current website.

I was installed VS 2005 Professional in Windows server 2003 Enterprise in desktop pc. Later installed VS 2005 SP1 (KB926601). Its working perfect. In this system in .aspx source when I press space after <div tag I got so much properties like (accesskey, align, automicselection, class, contenteditable, dir, enableviewstate, hidefocus, id, lang.....) and event also.
Now I got new system (Laptop) I installed XP Professional with sp3, VS 2005 Professional, VS 2005 SP1 (KB926601). In this system in .aspx source when I press space afrer <div tag I got less than half of properties in compare of above like (class,dir,enableviewstate,id,lang.....)
I notice this when i try <div align.

I have with working with Visual Studio for a while, and using it's web server. I decided I needed IIS 7 for testing certain features. I installed, but I get an error
The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME mapI've googled and been able to figure out that aspx pages are not enabled by default, but I can't find the proper method to fix this.

What is the best method for using ASP yet not using the .aspx extension? I want my site urls to be like SomeSiteinASP.com/whatever instead of SomeSiteinASP.com/whatever.aspx so that it is more "memory friendly" to my users, not to mention Google likes those urls better. :)

I noticed this a week ago but on my Win7 Ultimate x64 computer VS 2008 will completely lock up whenever I open an aspx page in form view. It has no problems opening the code behind and web config file but it will not respond when I try to open the aspx page file. What's up with that?

I have a problem within a project in Visual Web Developer. The program will not allow me to open the aspx.vb file associated with an aspx file when I choose the "View Code" option. The aspx.vb file exists; however the program is prevented from loading it and seeing it in Solutions Explorer.
The problem may be related to how the entire project is loaded -- loading it as a project vs. as a website. When I load it as a project, I have compilation errors that do not exist otherwise, but can see the aspx.vb files. When it is loaded as a website, I can't open the aspx.vb files as described above.

When user clicks on linkButton it needs to open new window to display some data. I try this:

But it doesn't work. I can't even manually navigate to this page. Opening new window work but it opens the same page in that new window. So, how to display content from SomePage.aspx in this new window?
