Installation :: Installed VS2010, Apps Fail To Run?
Apr 30, 2010
I just upgraded to VS2010 and am having issues with my development machine. I have a number of MVC sites hosted on my local IIS (Windows 7, 64 bit). Before the installation of VS2010/.NET 4 everything ran fine. Now I'm getting errors of:HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server ErrorCalling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI ilter "C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319aspnet_filter.dll" failedI have only found one other person with this problem and he had no resolution. Should .NET 4 be trying to load these sites?

So bit the bullet and installed vs2010 finally. However, when loading an existing vs2008 project, I am getting this error: "The project type is not supported by this installation." the only thing special about this project is that it's a "web application projects" type. what I've tried so far are these steps, but none of these solve my problem:
(1) run "devenv /setup"
(2) regsvr32.exe "%ProgramFiles%Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0Common7IDEProjectAggregator.dll"

I have an ASP.net web service application that connects to a Progress OpenEdge 10.1B database via ODBC. My development machine is XP Pro and runs everything fine. I am now moving the application into a test environment. The test machine is also XP Pro. It matches the dev machine except for that the Progress Server is not running locally. I am able to run the project out of VS2010 and the web service makes the ODBC connection and returns the data without error. When I deploy the application to IIS (which is running locally) the ODBC connection fails with this error: *System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [IM003] Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (OpenEdge 10.1B driver).*

I have reasonable experience programming for windows form programs in VB 2005, but I am new in ASP.NET. I have tried the file system website, and it does not seems to have a problem for me. However, when I was trying to create a website to run with IIS, it failed. This is what happened, to start, I chose location:HTTP on the "new web site" dialog box, and using browse button, I opened the "choose location" dialogbox. I choose "Local IIS" on the lefthand side. Then, I create new virtual directory, with the alias name "Test" and folder c:my documentweb site st (new and empty directory). Then I clicked the open button, it was still fine, where it returned to the "new web site" dialog box. However, when I clicked the OK button on the "New Web Site" dialog box, it comes up with this error:
"Configuring web site 'http://localhost/Test' to ASP.NET 2.0 failed. You may need to manually configure this site for ASP.NET 2.0 in order for your site to run correctly"
When I clicked OK, it does come up with a blank website, however if I run it, it will comes up with this error:
"Unable to start debugging on the web server. The server does not support debugging of ASP.NET and ATL Server application. Click Help for more information on how to enable debugging" but there is no Help button!
By the way, all the trials are done in VB2005/ASP.NET 2.0, we are trying to upgrade to VB2010 sometimes next year. The computer is running Windows XP.

I installed VS2010 and proceded to convert my projects but the wizard failed. Insted I decided to recreate the whole solution with 5 projects from scratch, except that my Ajax 4.0 controls do not work. The projects are "Class" type and the final product is complied DLL that I'll be using some place else.
I am referencing the latest AjaxControlToolKit and in one of my projects where I'm building tab panel controls on the fly, where I'm adding "Controls" to the TP such as tpOverdue.Controls.Add(linkButton), the "Controls" throws an error:
'AjaxControlToolkit.TabPanel' does not contain a definition for 'Controls' and no extension method 'Controls' accepting a first argument of type 'AjaxControlToolkit.TabPanel' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Another error I get in a separate project (same solution) where I build the scriptmanager on the fly like this: ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, typeof(PeopleSearch), "UpdatePanelFixup", "_spOriginalFormAction = document.forms[0].action; _spSuppressFormOnSubmitWrapper=true;", true); - The error is: "The name 'ScriptManager' does not exist in the current context".
Interestingly, this solutiom resides on a 2003 server (developping on test server). I have similar solution on Vista using VS2010 where the difference is that instead of using class projects in my solution I use Web User Controls in my web solution and all works like a charm. I don't know if this is enough info for you guys to offer feedback, so if neccessary, I can post some code. Just let me know.

I have an app that I've built with VS 2008 Pro, which I believe uses version 3.5 of the .Net Framework. I want to run this app on an older machine to test the layout with some older browsers. The site is simple static site. This older machine doesn't have version 3.5 of the framework installed.
If I install just the 3.5 Framework on this older machine, can I then run the site in the browser without having VS2008 or VWD 2008 installed? I want to tweak the css in for the older browsers.

I am getting an error saying "ASPNET account is not present in this machine" when I try to install Sitecore on my machine after I installed visual studio 2008..
- My machine is running on windows XP sevice pack 3
- I installed Visual Studio 2008 and .NET framework version 3.5 SP1 on that machine
- I can see that ASPNET User group account Under Users and Groups and it doesn't have "Account is locked out" ticked under general tab
- Also I ran aspnet_regiis -i many times but didn't help; actually I red in one post that I should delete ASPNeT account first and run the script but still didn't help
- when I view http://localhost on IE I can view the ASP home page without any problem but Firefox asks me to enter user name and password.

I've encountered a problem while installing Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7, I've tried to modify the privileges of the destination folders to no avail, I've also tried to delete everything related to it with a removal tool. The problem is that the installation is always unsuccessful at the same point, providing me a Blue Screen of Death (twice) and the following error message (infinite amount of occasions):
[Code]....
Does anybody know the cause of the error? Is there an easier and less time consuming solution than reinstalling the whole system?

I have an ASP.NET app running on a webserver. A third party is created another app in PHP which needs to send data to my app for processing. Initially it was assumed that the PHP app would be deployed elsewhere so we agreed that the communication would occur over the internet via HTTP (over SSL). My app would simply use a generic handler (ashx) file to recieve the data and send confirmation back.
Now it seems that the PHP app might be deployed on the same machine as my app. I like the fact that using HTTP (as opposed to say direct database access), the PHP app needs to know nothing at all about how my app works. But using the public internet seems silly for communication between two apps on the same machine. If the PHP app simply used a localhost address, would this ensure that all the data stays within the machine? Is there a better way to do this?

I'm starting to plan an architecture for a big web application, and I wanted to get suggestions and/or recommendations on where to begin and which technologies and/or frameworks to use.The application will be an Intranet-based web site using Windows authentication, running on IIS and using SQL Server and ASP.NET. It'll need to be structured as a main/shell application with sub-applications that are "pluggable" based on some configuration settings.

It'll need to be structured as a main web application with sub-web applications. Essentially, the entire scope is a composite browser-based, Intranet application that is composed of discrete, functionally complete modules or sub-applications.
