JQuery :: Cascading Dropdownlist Using Web Service Inside UserControl?

I am using jQuery to do a cascading dropdown list (State, City). In order to pull the information from the database I have a web service that I reference. The code all works like a champ when I use the JavaScript on the ASPX page for proof of concept, but when I place the JavaScript in the userControl and then put the userControl on the ASPX page, it breaks.
The next foreseeable thing that will potentially complicate things further is that the userControl will be inside of an updatePanel
let me know if some body tried to use a cascading dropdownlist inside a formview to be used in update and insert templates.known that my tables are like this:
Section: SecID SecTitle Category: [code]...
I need to create a formview to insert and update all my news but I need a cascading Dropdownlist to select a section and generate the related categories Note that I need to display the Sectoin and the Category Titles
I am new to ASP.NET MVC 2. In my project, there are two selects: one that contains a list of countries and another that should contain the states/provinces/etc for the country selected in the previous select.
Is there any possibility to create a cascading select without using any client scripting?

how to get a default value for the dropdownlists. Since otherwise the customer dropdownlist will have a value when you first get to the page, but the task list won't...

In your code. i tried using this code and facing a tiny problem. In above mentioned code 'ddlContinents.ClientID'.val stores integer value in contentId for obvious reasons but the requirement of my code is different. i want to pass text which is selected instead of id no.for example if mumbai is listed as second option and i select mumbai it should store mumbai in contentId instead of 2 i.e. integer value.
I have two dropdownlists inside a repeater. And based on the value I pick in the first dropdownlist the second needs to get populated (both need to be populated from the DB via stored proc). I am adding the code I have so far but it's not complete
Hello all i have this little issue getting this to work, i have a dropdownlist in asp.net inside a formview and jquery cant find the control im guessing because its inside a form, this is what i got and it works on another page without a formviewi get this errorName 'Country' is not declared
I need to insert some JavaScript code inside a UserControl that I load from an Ajax call via jQuery Ui Tabs. Let me explain... This is my View (with jQuery loaded)

The problem is that the message() function returns always 1 (instead of returning the correct number). My question is... How should I add the script to my UserControl in order to have my code running correctly?
Click Me in a UserControl. I downloaded the sample attached there and its working fine but i am trying to create UserControl out of it. No rows are getting loaded on scrolling down. I modified the code to look like this..

Its giving me error: The name 'Test1' does not exist in the current context. Test1 is the Id of my USerControl. Test1 is the ID of UserControl. I found your tutorial on similar issue but i did not use it because i am not using stored procedure and i know nothing about XML. At this point i just want to make the sample attached in that article(one i provided) to work as a UserControl.
I've a ASP.Net page (Default.aspx) which will load UserControl (ucontrol.ascx) dynamically into an UpdatePanel. By using UpdatePanel, we believe we're able to prevent the entire page to be posted-back.
My problem is, within the UserControl, we have some form controls, such as inputs and buttons; after the UserControl is loaded, clicking on any button inside the UserControl will cause the UpdatePanel to be blanked. During the investigation, I found that, breakpoints within the Button1_Click() in the code-behind for the UserControl is never reached. Please reference to the code below, this references to [REFERENCE]1.
The <select> tag don't accept html content in this <option>. So how can I write some HTML content in this <option> like <li>. Or Anyway create dropdownlist using <div>.
I am having two dropdownlist in my project,one dropdownlist for empid, another dropdownlist for month, if the user select the empid, the values are retrieved in the textbox.
In the second dropdownlist, if the user select the month in the dropdownlist it will display the leave details, its all working fine, if the user again select the first dropdownlist that means empid, I want to show the second dropdownlist as select month, how can do this.....
I'm pointing a jquery selector towards a dropdownlist inside an UpdatePanel. It interacts just fine with the $("#<%= DropDownList1.ClientID %>").change("Do something");
but, when the Dropdownlist postsbacks (it needs to do it, and that's why it's inside the updatepanel) my script suddently stops to work.
I am making an application that deals with vehicles. I need two DropDownLists:
Makes: All Vehicle Makes Models: Models that belong to the selected value of the Make DropDownList
How is this done in MVC2? My Idea: Do I use an ajax call when my first list is selected and then pull back the Models to bind to the Model DDL? How would model binding come into play that way? UPDATE I posted what I ended up doing as an answer. It is super simple and works great. You can use a get too if you feel so inclined, but you have to specify that you want to like so... return Json(citiesList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);

I have a masterpage and inside that masterage is a user control that has a toolbar with a save button. I then have an aspx page that inherits form t he master page. In that page I have and updatepanel. Is it possible to set the post back trigger to the Save button inside the usercontrol?
I have a .aspx page having two dropdowns, the data to be loaded in them is usually static(but may change everyday), the first dropdown always displays the main categories and the second dropdown is initially empty.
Now, the requirement is:
As the user selects a category from the first dropdownlist, the second dropdownlist should populate based on the selection just made.
The road-block:
This should be done without a postback. My boss wants something like the drop downs on this page.
So what I gather is, I'd have to retrieve the data from the database on page load event, store it in the cache(or somewhere else?), then use javascript to handle the selectedindexchanged event of the 1st dropdown, use the data from database stored at pageload and populate the second dropdown according to the selected value of first dropdown.
P.S.- I'm a beginner ASP.Net C# programmer and have no knowledge of Javascript.
