View 1 RepliesI'm doing some work for a charity that's having a fund drive. Whenever someone makes a pledge, their pledge amount is logged to SQL Server. They'd like to have the pledge total posted across a couple of other websites, so I thought, "a-ha! this is an opportune time to learn about web services!" I assumed I could set up a web service that returns the pledge total as a string, and then dump some jquery code on the external sites that would call the web service.
It's about nine hours later, and I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. It sounds like JSONP is the only way to do cross-domain requests, but even after reviewing a bunch of tutorials, I'm not sure how to make my .NET page return the right value, and now I'm wondering if there isn't a better way of doing this altogether. Can anyone provide a totally simplified code sample?
TL;DR: I need to return a single value to a bunch of pages using jquery or javascript from another web server.
I'm building an HTML5 application (with ASP.NET back-end) and i want to develop it in such a way that i can run it locally with all my resources (such js and css) not minified (so i can debug it easily). However when i build the final version i want merge and minify the resources. At the same time i want to create several versions of the app targeting different platforms (iPhone, iPad, desktop, etc) by adding appropriate css.
I thought that the final output should be a set of html files (so the get cached nicely). I could use ASPX and just control the output by a query string parameter, but i don't really want to have the form tag on my page.
So the questions are:
What are the pros and cons of using static html pages generated from a template versus a dynamic ASPX page? (apart from being able to run on any web server)
If ASPX approach good enough then how can i get rid of the form tag that's required by ASP.NET?
UDPATE
Another factor in favor of static html pages is the fact that the files are served instantly, whereas ASPX may take awhile to load if the app has recycled.
The back-end is ASP.NET 2.0.
how to save and retrive date in database using jquery ajex asp.net ,JSOn,XML

View 7 RepliesI wonder how it is possible to retreive the Folder name in which the file default.cs is in. I do my coding in this default.cs file and will simply retreive the name of the folder that this file is in. If I remember correct Resolve URL could be used to do this in any way but dont really remember how to do this in C#?
View 3 RepliesI have a few pages that are completely static. They only change at build time. But they are expensive to create. For the ones that are kind of expensive to create, I cache them for very long times using the ASP.NET output caching. But for one page, I really want it cached forever and ever or until the the next build.
What is the most expedient way to make this happen? Is there a build in feature that achieves this or a 3rd party tool?
(yeah, for the moment I plan to do the "view source" and copy paste thing, which isn't a very elegant build step)
i have taken a list view, in that i have multiple item controls. from that i want to refresh one particular label frequently and data of that label comes from database it checks that particular data each time when label refreshÂ
so, how can i make this?
eg. in any online auction site a name of unique bidder changes frequently
I want to grant access to some ressources located on server only for specified web pages, how could I do this?
For example I have an image www.mysite.com/images/image.jpg and something like <img src="www.mysite.com/images/image.jpg" /> should only work on site asp.net.
Is it possible with web.config or maybe with some C# code?
I'm building a greasemonkey script to make posting to craigslist a lot easier for our clients.
Basically the flow is this:
User logs into our system (established authentication cookies with asp.net)User navigates to a section on our site called "CraigsList". If they have the greasemonkey script installed it automatically opens up craigslist in a new tab.
The greasemonkey script then does a request back to our site at [URL] to retrieve a list of available items to be posted to craigslist.
This is where it fails because the request to [URL] is not including any of the authentication cookies. I'm not sure if it doesn't include the cookies because the request originates from [URL] and not [URL] or what. I know it's an authentication issue because looking at it in fiddler it returns a 302 and redirects to the login page.
Here is my request:
[code]....
I have this polling script to check if a text file is created on the server. Works great locally, but fails when the file is on a different domain. How would i rewrite this for cross domain support?
$.ajax({
url: 'http://blah.mydomain.com/test.txt',
type: "GET",
success: function(result) {
//Success!
window.location.replace(Successful.aspx');
},
error: function(request, status, error) {
setTimeout("VerifyStatus(" + pollingInterval + ")");
}
});
EDIT: I ended up using YQL to solve the cross domain issue and although it works, YQL is really slow that's adding quite a bit of performance overhead. Can anyone suggest a better solution for cross domain JQuery calls?
I have a simple script making a request to the server:
var DTO = { 'path': path };
var url = 'default.aspx/Get';
var test;
$('#getInstance').click(function () {
$.ajax({
url: url,
type: 'POST',
dataType: 'json',
data: JSON.stringify(DTO),
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
success: function (msg) {
test = msg;
},
error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) {
alert(textStatus);
alert(errorThrown);
}
});
});
This works fine as in it connects to the server and gets the data back, with one simple problem. It is treating this request as a cross domain request, therefore using jsonp. The server code is here:
[WebMethod]
[ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)]
public static MyObject Get(string path)
{
MyObject foo = new MyObject();
return foo;
}
Normally this would not be a problem, except that I am accessing a WebMethod, and it doesnt have the capability to return a jsonp response (meaning it has no way to attach the callback function to the response. Now, if this was a manual response, I could hack it up and attach the parameter, but I am taking advantage of the built-in serialization, so no way to mess around with the response. [URL]
Let me just stress the fact that this code works. The only problem is jQuery treating this request as cross domain. But Why? UPDATE: Well, after many more hours and more testing I have narrowed this issue down to it being a bug in jquery 1.5.1. I did some testing with older versions (all 1.4 versions) and I had no problem, the request was made using JSON, and the response was received successfully. What could be the change they made that would consider this request a CORS?
Last time I had problem in getting value from Dropdown List that located in the listview. I want to use the Jquery to get the value of thos Dropdown list and insert that data into the database,.
This time I have added some more radio buttun that are generated from my SQL server database and I want to use Jquery to get those radio button.
I have this code being called

which returns <div>here</div><script language=javascript>alert('');</script> The content gets loaded property, but no alert. How would I get a javascript routine to work from an ajax call along with posting the HTML code?
I have been working on a new website for a few weeks with no speed issues at all.
[Code]....
This morning I was running / debugging new code and everything was running fine.
As soon as I dropped an AJAX HTML editor on my page it is taking about 30 seconds for my page to load when it was taking about 2 - 3 seconds. The only properties I changed was the Height and Width of the editor control.
Here is the code for that control:
<cc1:Editor ID="editorDetails" runat="server" Width="420" Height="300" />
I even turned off debugging just to see if that would help but it didnt.
I have the latest version which is 11-2009 BETA.
Could it be the beta version just has some debugging stuff that will go away with the final release version?
i am running with an unfamilier issue with jquery ajax and wcf service . i have created a simple wcf service and trying to show it on a asp.net label... the wcf service just returns a string which has to b shown on a label. the url has been set on jquery ajax url to call the wcf service using rest. but somehow i am not getting the desired thing done . the ajax cannot retrieve the data from the wcf service , here are the code snippets.

I have a webpart that I need to include in all pages.
I can include them one by one, by register them on all pages, but it won't be comftorbale to mange.
How do I do such?
how one would retrive a value stored among several values in a single database field?
For example, the MS Customize CreateUserWizard walkthrough [URL] adds the ability to save the users preference for subscribing to a newsletter and allowing their info to be shared as 1 value in the comment column of the membership database. The result ofaspnet_Membership.Comment is Subscribe=TRUE&ShareInfo=FALSE.
My question is if Subscribe=TRUE&ShareInfo=FALSE is in one field of the database, how would you retrieve just the Subscribe=TRUE value from the field and use it to send a newsletter to the proper users while ignoring the ShareInfo=FALSE value?
Problem: Postbacks are causing eventtarget errors because they are going back to the aspx page where the tabs are defined instead of going to the href page. I have a main page called Default.aspx. On it is the setup for the jquery tabs using ajaxoptions.
Default.aspx javascript for tabs:
[Code]....
The dropdown is filled during the page load of lists.aspx. How can I get the postback to go to lists.aspx instead of back to the Default.aspx? I tried using IFrames and it worked great for postback issue but not for dynamic loading of pages. It loaded all pages up front which is not ok.
I have a Editor control with ID="Editor1" . But i want to retrieve its html content entered by the user in the client side through jQuery .

I have a asp.net page with a repeaterdatalist control on it. I bind this grid during page load and show the first 20 thumbnails of a photo album.
There can be multiple pages for which I have a pager 1 2 3. When user clicks the second page(2), I go and get the second set of album thumbnails and show.
Currently this is a postback and when I show 2nd page whole page gets refreshed.
Now is it even possible to use Ajaxjquery to get the second page of htmls with all thumbnails on it and render? This way the page never has a post back and I can avoid page refresh?
I have added a jquey menu in my master page its working fine for those asp.net pages which are at the same level as master page.
But this menu isn't working at all for all of those page which aur in Editor's and Admin's folder. In these pages menu is displaying as simple html menu and unfortunately no jquery effect is shown on it.
I'm very confused why this menu isn't working for the pages which are in a seprate folder while the master page is added at the root level outside of all these folders.
I got a new domain name for my project that I developped and I went in and changed all the old domain names to the new ones thru out the project and it actaully seemed to work. For a few days now when I first go to the page it askes me to login like it should then when I navigate to other pages it asks for login again once logged in that page then works well if I navigate to a new page for the session it asks again to login. I am using forms authentication.
