MVC :: Bug Or Feature / HtmlHelper.TextBox Ignores Value Parameter?
Nov 2, 2010
I have an action similar to
[Code]....
When no date parameter is submitted (i.e. date == null), date is set to DateTime.Now in the controller action and everything works like a charm, that is TextBox will use the value provided in the model. However, if date is passed in the URL (thus bound to date in the call to the index action) TextBox will NOT use the model value (which is properly parsed into a DateTime at that point) but instead use the value from ViewData.ModelState. It doesn't matter what value is set in the call to TextBox, it will be ignored completely.
The only way around this behaviour is to call
[Code]....
in the controller action.

One thing I really love about web browsers, is the autocomplete feature they have for different controls, like textboxes in forms. However, some times users get confused with the dropdown appearing. So, we would like to be able to disable the autocomplete feature for some textboxes on some of our ASP.NET WebForms pages. Isn't there a property which controls that? Or is that done through JavaScript?

I would like to extend the HtmlHelper by using metadata (similar to DataAnnotaions metadata). Specifically I want to be able to add a 'Title' attribute to html controls that will then appear as a tooltip on the control. I would like to keep the tooltip text with my model, for example by adding 'Tiltle' metadata to the model as follows:
[DisplayName("User Id")]
[Title("Enter your 10 digit user id")]
property UserId { get; set; }
So the questions are:
1. How do I add metadata (such as 'Title') to my model?
2. How do I access this metadata in my HtmlHelper extension method?
[code]....

I have a problem using windows authentication and the authorization-tag in web.config for my asp.net application. When I host the application in IIS (both in IIS 6 and IIS 7) the authorization-tag is ignored. When I run the application in asp.net development server that comes with visual studio 2010, it works perfect.
Why will it not work in IIS? And how to solve it?

From; ASP.NET Ignores IE7 Compatibility Mode Tag in Web.config
<system.web>
<httpProtocol>
<customHeaders>
<clear />
<add name="X-UA-Compatible" value="IE=EmulateIE7" />
</customHeaders>
</httpProtocol>
</system.web>
Related to the answer Chris Shouts added;
When I attempt to add the <httpProtocols> sections into the <system.web> I get
Parser Error Message: Unrecognized configuration section system.web/httpProtocol.
I ideally need to be able to add customHeaders through the IIS6 web.config (I however am assuming this won't work)

I'm using entity framework and i have a problem that this dropdown ignores my changes / does not reflect db.
<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server" DataSourceID="edsFoo" >
<asp:DropDownList ID="myDD" runat="server" AppendDataBoundItems="true" DataValueField='<%# Bind("something") %>'>
<asp:ListItem Value="0" Text="NO" />
<asp:ListItem Value="1" Text="YES" />
<asp:ListItem Value="2" Text="PARTIALLY" />
</asp:DropDownList>
</asp:FormView>
'Something' (in binding) is an int and it's 1. When the form is started, I always see NO, although the value coming from EF is 1.

I changed my application to use "InProc" sessionState instead of "Off" because I need to preserve user selected language from page to page doing localization.n web.sitemap I have this line:
<siteMapNode url="Admin.aspx" title="Administrator" description="Site administration" roles="Administrator" />
which before I changed sessionState to "InProc" worked as supposed to: menu item "Administrator" appeared as a menu choice only when user had logged in with admin rights. Now this menu choice is present for every user.

Create a new website based on master pages (ASP.NET Web Site template in VS2010 [File] - [New] - [Website]). Add an ajax control toolkit accordion control on a page using master pages (Default.aspx's "Main Content" asp:content block, for instance). Add styles for the accordion control in the site.css file. The accordion control completely ignores the styles, regardless of whether they are assigned as an id or a class, inline, etc. The header and content styles are used, but the accordion control itself ignores all styles. The accordion control also ignores the ajax animationextender when placed inside an asp:content block. I haven't investigated whether there are other controls that ignore styles when used with master pages, but this is a major blow to a project that has been designed with the use of master pages. If I find more controls that ignore css styles inside of master pages it will completely sabotage the entire project and use of Microsoft's technology.

This is really frustrating. Upgraded report to Crystal 2008, and the filters on month/year are being ignored. This report is a simple cross-tab. We have a worker data table, with each row containing a date, a worker id, and various counts to be listed by worker, and then a summary for each row. The columns are the worker's name.Parameters are report month and year, so I have a group filter that month(report_date) = param month and same for year.The report does ask for the parameter input, but then ignores it and summarizes every record in the worker data across all time.So, for example, my user Frank has data in the worker table for each month from Janaury 2008 to December 2010, and he shows up when I run the report for January 2011.Prior to upgrading, the report worked great; it would filter out the records by input month and year and then summarize. I neither understand why this changed, nor the new right way to apply filters for cross-tabs.

i have an up & running site based on asp.net 4 routing everything works perfectly except for one page the dynamic route for this page is [URL] i also have a physical folder in the site named admin at first i was getting a iis error when i tired to access this page. then i discovered RouteExistingFiles=true so now the page shows up whats odd though that the sitempappath is empty as well as another sitemap-based treeview on the page so i checked the page's sitemap.currentnode , which is also empty. why? so more research showed that [URL] is always redirected to [URL] (realize the foward slash at end!)
if i search the sitemap like this SiteMap.Provider.FindSiteMapNode("~/Admin") then it returns the node . but like this SiteMap.Provider.FindSiteMapNode("~/Admin/") [-with fwd slash] it return nothing so the question is: why is "~/admin" always redirected to "~/admin/" and how do i either stop it or make the sitemap ignore final fwd slashes?

We're converting a Classic ASP site to an ASP.NET site. One function was to upload a 'template' of data in CSV format for importing into the database. There were several different record types in there (the first field always indentifies the type of data).
The task was to get the CSV into a DataTable so it could be validated (new project is to have MUCH better validation rules)
The code seemed pretty straightforward - watered down (taking out comments, Try/Catch, etc) it is as follows:
Dim da As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Dim cn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strDirectory & ";" & "Extended Properties=""Text;HDR=No;FMT=Delimited;""")
Dim cd As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM " & strCSVFilename, cn)
cn.Open()
da.SelectCommand = cd
da.Fill(dtData)
The DataTable (dtData) is populated, but only starting with the second line of the CSV file DESPITE the fact that "HDR=No" is in the connection string. What am I missing here?

I have a very simple CustomValidator control as follows:
[Code]....
If I use this on a basic aspx page as follows:
[Code]....
When I press Button1, I would expect the CustomValidator to fire only if there is a value in TextBox1.Instead, the CustomValidator is ALWAYS fired. Even adding ValidateEmptyText="false" to the validator does nothing to change this behaviour.What am I missing from my control implementation that is causing this?

I have a gridview that displays the contents of a database table, using an sqlDataSource. That part (including inserting, updating and deleting rows) works perfectly. What I am wanting to do is add a "search" function to restrict the rows returned to a user entered name. I have a textbox for the name to be searched and a "Search" button in the headertemplate as such:
[Code]....
The DataBind fails, with the error:
Could not find control 'txtSearchName' in ControlParameter 'username'.

Has anybody else had an issue with the sender address not being used as the return-path/bounce address when using system.net.mail to send email with a different address for the return-path/sender and the from address and using the SpecifiedPickupDirectory delivery method? This issue is particularly important when you need to send mail from a "user" address, but want bounce backs to come to a different address so they can be processed. Using the code below, I think you can reproduce the issue.
Imports System.Net.Mail
Partial Class emailtest
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub test_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles test.Click
' Build Message
Dim mail As New MailMessage
mail.To.Add("user@gmail.com")
mail.From = New MailAddress("from@domain.com")
mail.Sender = New MailAddress("sender@domain.com")
mail.Subject = "Test Subject"
mail.Body = "Test Body"
' Drop in Pickup Directory
Dim smtpPK As New SmtpClient
smtpPK.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.SpecifiedPickupDirectory
smtpPK.PickupDirectoryLocation = "C: emp"
smtpPK.Send(mail)
' Send Message Directly
Dim smtp As New SmtpClient("mail.domain.com")
smtp.Send(mail)
End Sub
End Class
