EDIT: no i do not want to deploy my application via visual studio, instead I want my web application itself to deploy a web application.
Example I use webapplication1, using webapplication1, I login to my control panel, I then setup the application to deploy within webapplication1, then I click deploy, and it deploys webapplicationX, webapplicationY, webapplicationN etc..

Jun 16, 2010I am new to the asp .net (c#) technology.I got an assignment to work on a existing C# project which is alreay live and working.I have downloaded all the code files from the given FTP server on my local server.My Local Server Environment Details :OS - WinXP.NET Framework Version - 2.0 ( There are different versions on the machine i.e. 1.0,1.1,2.0,3.0,3.5 but through IIS i have enabled 2.0 because the application is developed in 2.0)Visual Studio - 2003 In the downloaded source code i did not found any solution file to open the project in Visual Studio , So i created the new project and by using the add existing elements i added all the project files to the newly created project.Am i doing right way.Will my application will work when i will upload the code on live server because the solution file would have mylocal machine configuration.Suggest me how can i proceed in long term vision so that in future i do not face any problem during application release.

Jul 14, 2010A few years ago, I built a desktop application for a client in VS 2005 that was deployed using Click Once. Recently, the client asked me to make a simple modification to the site.
I no longer had VS 2005 (or the same machine for that matter) and was forced to upgrade the application to Visual Studio 2008.
Most of the application is fine in VS 2008 - however I am unable to Publish the application. During the project conversion process and whenever I try to publish the application, I receive a message like this:
"This project includes a password-encrypted key used for signing. Enter the password for the key file to import the key file into the local crypto-store database for use."
Unfortunately, I don't have any idea what the password would be for this application.What options do I have? Is there a way to get this working again without having to rebuild the application or have all of the users uninstall the application and reinstall it?
Deploying An ASP MVC Application To IIS7?
Feb 12, 2010I've got an ASP MVC (1.0) application. It works fine locally via visual studio and on our dev server which runs IIS6. But when I try to deploy to the Test server (running IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2) I get only :"Could not load file or assembly '<ApplicationName>' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied" (where <ApplicationName> is the name of my application). This is followed by a "FileLoadException", a "ConfigurationErrorsException" and two "HttpException" (all with the same message as above)I deployed via publishing to an empty directory, whose contents were then zipped and transferred to the site directory on the test server. If I copy the directories contents to my IIS installation it works fine. I've checked that networkservices has permission to access the site directories and the temporary directories, which were the solutions I found via google,

Dec 2, 2010I have developed a web application using Visual Studio 2010 and in that application I have used AjaxControlToolkti 3.5 in some pages. When I go to Solution Explorer->References I have AjaxControlToolKit.dll file and if I take the property of that file i see the following in PATH field E:My DataEBPMinAjaxControlToolkit.dll which is a path of my development machine.
After that I went to my UAT machine (windows xp + IIS 6.0) copy the entire project in a folder of UAT machine, created a virtual directory, provided Alias and the Directory.Now when I access my UAT server from outside it works perfect except it throws "RunTime Error" on those pages where I have used

I guess as my AjaxControlToolkit path is refereing to my development machine location therefore its throwing error...what's the solution without making proper deployment. Actually on our UAT all the applications are using IIS 6.0 and if i go on proper deployment and IIS 7.0 (i guess it requires for deployment from Visual Studio 2010) I will have to reconfigure all the applications on UAT which I cannot do at this moment.

Iis7 - Exception After Publishing Asp.net Web Application
Feb 23, 2011I have a web application and when I decided to test on IIS 7 i have this Exception when trying to load a couple of pages that uses Entity Framework 4. I use EF 4 with my own CRUD assemblies but sometimes using the EntityDataSource. I have noticed that the problem is not appearing in all my Web Pages but I think in those that I use the EntityDataSource.

I think its the EDM problem but I can't get through.

Under IIS7, what account is used to access the folder which contains my web app using these settings?
Would it be IIS_IUSRS? Or NETWORK SERVICE? Or another I don't know about?

Nov 3, 2010I wanna serve my application in ISS to be accessed from many different URL's on my web server.
eg.
http://example.com/test1
http://example.com/test2
Both these URL's get served by the same application.
I do NOT however want to just create new virtual applications to the application, because it stuffs up the user membership roles. The users and their roles must exist accross the two URL's.

Mar 18, 2011I've created a deployment package in visualStudio, the package is generated, but it has an awfull structure, which is basically, the path where I've my project(e.g "CONTENT/D_C/WorkSpace/MyCustomer/TheProjectName/TheDevelopmentBranchFolder/TheCurrentBranch/TheWebApplicationName/obj/Release/Package/PackageTmp/TheSiteIsFinallyHere!!!"
It's problematic, because with the web deployer of IIS, it recreate this path.
So how can I avoid the "D_C/WorkSpace/MyCustomer/TheProjectName/TheDevelopmentBranchFolder/TheCurrentBranch/TheWebApplicationName/obj/Release/Package/PackageTmp" part in visual studio?
MVC :: Deploying Application To IIS7 - HTTP Error 404.3
Mar 15, 2010I have published my site using Visual Stuido's 2008 publish feature. I have then copied these files to a windows 2008 web server with IIS7 installed, it also has .net 3.5 sp1 and MVC installed In IIS I added the site using the 'Add a new site' right click option and then pointed this at the directory my site files are located in, I used the default application pool and it is set to integrated. Then when I attempt to browse I got the error message The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory. So I added Default.aspx to the default document list and I then get the following error message
HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. Has anyone got any ideas on what I do next ? I have read lots of articles on this online but most are confusing and dont explain the solution in simple terms Surely it should be pretty straightforard to just deploy an MVC website to IIS7
Iis7 - Batch Create Asp.net Application Folders IIS 7?
Mar 10, 2011We have a set of about 30-50 users who periodically need an ASP.net (version 4) application directory created for them.
As these numbers grow, manually creating an application directory for each user becomes cumbersome on IIS 7.
Is there a way to create these application folders using a batched/scripted/automated mechanism of some kind?
Ideally we'd like to provide input parameters of a file that contains a batch of application-names, and have the script automatically create the application directories in IIS.
