Iis7 - Exception After Publishing Asp.net Web Application

Feb 23, 2011

I have a web application and when I decided to test on IIS 7 i have this Exception when trying to load a couple of pages that uses Entity Framework 4. I use EF 4 with my own CRUD assemblies but sometimes using the EntityDataSource. I have noticed that the problem is not appearing in all my Web Pages but I think in those that I use the EntityDataSource.

Here's the log from a Page:

I think its the EDM problem but I can't get through.
I should mention that in my development pc is working all perfectly!!!

My controls are DevExpress but I dont think this should play any role!

[EDIT]

Forgot to mention that I use Self tracking Template with the Entities.tt in a separate assembly!

[EDIT 2]

On my local Windows 7 IIS works OK! It's Windows Server 2008 I can't get it done!

MVC :: VS2010 IIS7 Publishing Problem - Not All Files Transferred?

Jan 18, 2011

I've been building an MVC 2 site on my local machine which I then hoped to FTP to my companies IIS7 server.
When I first started using the MVC in VS2010 I published in VS via FTP and everything was fine, asp.net was properly installed and the mvc library was there.

Now I'm faced with a problem that I can hardly define, let alone get around:

When I attempted to publish, the controller folder wasn't being transferred, so I manually copied it across thinking it was just an FTP problem, but then I got errors complaining about an assembly reference in my web.config file:

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

So I'm guessing that whatever it is that is preventing VS transferring the controllers folder is doing the same with some of the MVC configuration stuff.

Another oddity is that thought the initial settings worked, I've since scrapped the orignal project and started again, I've had a look back at it and tried to use the original settings to FTP across but they now don't work and have the same problem, as does my bosses machine(previously unused version of VS) when I tried to FTP across the default MVC2 project.

VS reports that the FTP publish has succeeded and the controller files aren't listed in the Publish.XML file on either machine.

Visual Studio :: Publishing WCF Service In VS2010 And IIS7

Apr 1, 2010

there is probably a really simple answer to this, but I have the flu and can't think straight. I am taking advantage of being out sick by downloading VS2010RC and playing around with it. I created a simple WCF service (my first in this foundation, but not my first service). Its a redo of an existing asmx service I created a while ago. I commented out all the processes, and am simply trying to publish the service to my local IIS7 to see the discovery working. I have setup a new site to host the service ( I tried using Default as well, with the same results). I right click the project in VS and select publish. It is prompting me for a login even though the site is setup for anonymous access. If I try to use WebDeploy, it can't find my site, and if I use FileSystem, it give me a simple "Publish failed" with no details. Can someone point me to a tutorial or something that describes the publish process in VS2010 or give me some leads as to what setup needs to happen either in VS or ISS to let me publish?

Console Application Calling Datalayer Throws An Exception "The Type Initializer For Threw An Exception."

Aug 17, 2010

I have simple 3 tier web application and have mostly CRUDE functionalities. Recently I required to add new console application to the existing solution in which I call data layer methods for retrieving data from DB but I get an exception "The type initializer for threw an exception."When I debugged I found that the exception is thrown at datalayer on first line of class where I get connectionstring from

web.config, the code is public static readonly string CONNECT_STRING =

ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DbConnectString"].ConnectionString;

Now if I hardcode the connection string value like public static readonly string CONNECT_STRING = "Data Source=XYZ;uid=sa;password=XXX;initial catalog=ABC;"

it works fine.I don't understand what is the issue here as web application works fine with this datalayer.

One Click Publishing A Web Application Without Restarting It

Mar 22, 2011

I have installed Web Deployment service on a Windows 2008 machine, started using one click publishing in VS2010 and it works.

With one glitch, even though I change a view only file (like a *.cshtml razor file which is not compiled), web site is restarted. Therefore user sessions are lost. Maybe I am missing something so trivial, because it knows uploading only the changes.

Does anyone know whether restarting can be prevented using one click publishing or not?
If not, suggestions are welcome ^_^

How Do You Include A Non-referenced Dll When Publishing A Web Application

Dec 30, 2010

I have various dll's that I am not directly referencing in a ASP.NET website I am attempting to publish via the "Package/Publish Web" feature in Visual Studio 2010.

How can I tell the publishing feature that it needs to include these certain files?

Note that I do not want to directly reference these dll's (the solution has specifically been setup in a way so that these specific dll's are not directly referenced).

I've found a <ExcludeFilesFromDeployment/> but I can't find a way to specifically include files.

We have a shared drive where web applications are published to. When I attempt to publish I get the following error:

Unable to create the Web site 'T:WebSitesXXX'. The path 'T:WebSitesXXX' does not exist or you do not have access. The system cannot find the path specified.

OS: Windows 7

Path exists? Yup.

I assume it's some permissions issue, but I have no idea where to start.

Deploying An ASP MVC Application To IIS7?

Feb 12, 2010

I've got an ASP MVC (1.0) application. It works fine locally via visual studio and on our dev server which runs IIS6. But when I try to deploy to the Test server (running IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2) I get only :"Could not load file or assembly '<ApplicationName>' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied" (where <ApplicationName> is the name of my application). This is followed by a "FileLoadException", a "ConfigurationErrorsException" and two "HttpException" (all with the same message as above)I deployed via publishing to an empty directory, whose contents were then zipped and transferred to the site directory on the test server. If I copy the directories contents to my IIS installation it works fine. I've checked that networkservices has permission to access the site directories and the temporary directories, which were the solutions I found via google,

MVC :: Deploying Application To IIS7 - HTTP Error 404.3

Mar 15, 2010

I have published my site using Visual Stuido's 2008 publish feature. I have then copied these files to a windows 2008 web server with IIS7 installed, it also has .net 3.5 sp1 and MVC installed In IIS I added the site using the 'Add a new site' right click option and then pointed this at the directory my site files are located in, I used the default application pool and it is set to integrated. Then when I attempt to browse I got the error message The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory. So I added Default.aspx to the default document list and I then get the following error message

HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. Has anyone got any ideas on what I do next ? I have read lots of articles on this online but most are confusing and dont explain the solution in simple terms Surely it should be pretty straightforard to just deploy an MVC website to IIS7

Iis7 - Batch Create Asp.net Application Folders IIS 7?

Mar 10, 2011

We have a set of about 30-50 users who periodically need an ASP.net (version 4) application directory created for them.

As these numbers grow, manually creating an application directory for each user becomes cumbersome on IIS 7.

Is there a way to create these application folders using a batched/scripted/automated mechanism of some kind?

Ideally we'd like to provide input parameters of a file that contains a batch of application-names, and have the script automatically create the application directories in IIS.

Iis7 - 3.5 Application With Multiple Web.config Files (IIS 7)

Nov 28, 2010

We are working on a web application that creates more web applications. Each web application will have to get a Url Rewrite rule (URL REWRITE MODULE 2.0).As far as I know, there's no way to add such rules without modifying the web.config file (am I right??).So my plan was to work with multiple web.config partial files. One main .config file, and lots of .config files per application (every file will contain it's web application url rewrite rules). This way sounds a little bit messy, but I can't think of anything else, and suggestions will be welcomed.
