MVC :: Using Forms Authentication And Triggering New Rows To Be Added To Existing Database

Nov 9, 2010

I'm very new to ASP.NET and MVC2 but I've managed to piece together a project that allows a user to create an entry in the SQL Express database - just like the "MVC Movie Application". However, I now want to utilize the [Log On] Forms Authentication feature. Requirement: when the user successfully registers an account my existing database needs to be updated with a row of data.

Using the MVC Movie Application as an example: the method "public ActionResult Register(RegisterModel model){}" [see: AccountController] needs to be wired to also perform "public ActionResult Create(Movie newMovie)" [see: MoviesController] how is this achieved ? (specifically, to update the MVC Movie application to create a new movie whenever someone registers a new account.)

Web Forms :: After Added Already Existing Project The Solution Icon Vanished By Showing The Icon Of Recently Added Project?

Feb 1, 2010

I have the following list of projects WebUI (WebSite) , DataAccess (ClassLibrary) , LogicLayer(ClassLibrary). Those of the project are purposively crated separately.But my scenario is, need to create only one solution file, then add all of the above projects under this solution file. So that i can be easiy interacted and changes can be made by opening solution file only instead of opening each project individually.

Simply all of the layer projects are under one roof means one solution. I tried it by adding solution first, then i added already existed project into this. But once after added already existing project the solution icon vanished by showing the icon of recently added project. By this way I could not add another project into this section too.Hope this is the way the basic real-time projects are created; to achieve the centralized control over architecture based projects.

MVC :: What Versus Features Would Be Missing If Added To An Existing Webforms Website

Jul 27, 2010

I understand that MVC can be added to an existing ASP.Net Webforms Web Site Project as explained in this post.

I am wondering if any expert here could tell us what MVC related functions of VS2010 would be missing in this scenario. For example, the very useful shortcuts of "Add View..." and "Go To View" seem to be missing. keep in mind this is about aWeb site project not Web application project so no project file (i.e. .csproj) is involved.

Migrate Existing Users To Forms Authentication?

Feb 19, 2010

How do I migrate users from a existing users table to Forms Authentication?

There seems to be three options:

T-SQL - Iterate through the existing users table and insert into Forms Authentication tables using the stored procedure aspnet_Membership_CreateUser Code - create a utility that will iterate through the existing users table and insert into Forms Authentication tables using Membership.CreateUser() Code - as users login verify credentials against existing users table and insert into Forms Authentication tables using Membership.CreateUser()

Which is the most practical?

I have been currently trying option 1 but I am running into difficulties using the password salt to create the encrypted password from a plain text password

Dynamically Insert Rows In An Existing DataTable (No DataSource Used)?

Jun 1, 2010

I have created a datatable with three fields namely TimeTask, TaskItem and Count (count of user) eg; {"12:30AM-01:00AM" , T1 , 3}.

dataTable.Columns.Add("Task Time", typeof(string));
dataTable.Columns.Add("Task", typeof(string));
dataTable.Columns.Add("Count", typeof(int));
dataTable.Rows.Add("12:00AM-12:15AM", "T1", 6);
dataTable.Rows.Add("12:45AM-01:00AM", "T1", 5);
dataTable.Rows.Add("01:00AM-01:15AM", "T1", 1);
dataTable.Rows.Add("01:15AM-01:30AM", "T2", 4);
dataTable.Rows.Add("01:30AM-01:45AM", "T2", 9);
GridView1.DataSource = dataTable;
GridView1.DataBind();

In this there is no task for the TimeTask "12:15AM-12:30AM" and "12:30AM-12:45AM" yet the TimeTask should be inserted as,

TimeTask TaskItem Count
12:00AM-12:15AM T1 6
12:15AM-12:30AM - -
12:30AM-12:45AM - -
12:45AM-01:00AM T1 5
01:00AM-01:15AM T1 1
01:15AM-01:30AM T2 4
01:30AM-01:45AM T2 9

How to chk for the missing rows? Is it possible to dynamically insert rows in an existing DataTable (No DataSource used) in this scenario.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview Save Existing Data When Adding Rows Via Arraylist?

Jan 19, 2010

I have a gridview that contains template fields with textboxes that is used to look up inventory items. The page loads using an arraylist to display a gridview control with a predetermined number of rows. There is also drop down control that allows the user to add additional rows to the gridview if needed.

Currently when a user has already entered some data if you use the drop down to add more empty rows all the original entrys are removed. I want to save the original data and then add empty rows at the end.

Private Sub LoadDataGrid(ByVal numberOfRows As Integer)
Dim Counter As Integer
Dim GridList As New ArrayList
For Counter = 0 To numberOfRows
GridList.Add(New LibVB.Form2VB(Counter))
Next
gvEnterParts.DataSource = GridList
gvEnterParts.DataBind()
End Sub

DataSource Controls :: Tried To Update My Current Database With The Triggers To Input The Schema Into The Already Existing Database Can't Get That To Work?

Jan 22, 2010

Creating a system with web front end and SQL backend (microsoft obviously). I have tried using the asp.netsqlprovider but i can;t as i am only allowed one database on the server, so i then tried to update my current database with the triggers to input the schema into the already existing database.Next step i create my own table with two simple fields of username and password and try and authenticate that way, i can't get that to work either.

I ahve limited permissions on the network as i am a University Student. I really don't know what to do. Never had to create a log on system before and i thought it would be far simpler than this. I ahve used Microsoft's sqlprovider schema before and it worked fine. I have also authenticated via IIS and AD too before. I can't do any of those two in this instance it seems.I need an alternative for logging in users, if needs be in can be crude. I also still need to have some kind of two different views too for logged in users and not logged in users, but that can change if needs must.Don't let me down people, haha. Think this posts in the correct place, i could not find another one i thought could be more relevant.

DataSource Controls :: Database Publishing Wizard With Existing Database?

May 10, 2010

I have a development database and one in production. There are two different sets of data in each database. On my dev system, I have mostly dummy data that I test with and in production is the real data for my web application. I recently added a new feature to the app that required a new table, and a new field for a foreign key in an existing table. I now need to upload that new structure to the production database without overwriting the live data with my test data.

If I run the Database Publishing Wizard, and choose "Schema Only" will it import the new structure and leave the existing data alone, or will it drop the records in my production database tables?
