I've noticed that page load time increases dramatically as you load up a ddlistbox with items. 10,000 or so results in a pretty much unacceptable wait time for my setup. The dropdown I'm trying to load is Airports - like all of them. What are some alternative UI solutions that give the user the ability to easily select any (literally) airport, but without a ginormous page loading time? (Currently the dd is keyed to the airport's 3 letter code, so it's convenient for the prepared user to just type the 3-letter code and have the right airport selected. The display is then set to code, city, country.)

I got one web page which is developed by using Asp.net. and in that page I have got one tab control which developed by using Ajax control toolkit (tab container). In that tab container i have got three tab pannels. In the first tab pannel have got two drop down list boxes and one image control box. wat I was trying to do is that by using calendar extender control in ajax control toolkit i was trying to display a day in the first drop down list box and month and year in second drop down list box. when user click on image control during run time a small calender will pops up and then user will select the propective date according to there choice and when they have finish selecting the date from the calender a day will display on first drop down list box and month and year will display on second drop down list box.
I was keep trying to do that but i was failed. then i took one test box from the toolbox and i was got success in displaying the user selected date in the text box by using ajax calender extender. How to display that date instead of one textbox into two separate drop down list boxes from which a user can select manual date from drop down list as well and from the calendar as well also when the page loads, the two drop down list boxes must show current date ( by default)

i have a form which asks for date of birth. find below the code.
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlDay" runat="server">
</asp:DropDownList>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlMonth" runat="server">
[Code]....
The dropdownlist is populated in code behind. The client and server validation code is,
function valDate_ClientValidate(source, args) {
var dd_id = document.getElementById("<%=ddlDay.ClientID %>");
var mm_id = document.getElementById("<%=ddlMonth.ClientID %>");
[Code]....
When i open this page and select the dropdown DD, an asterisk appears showing the error message. But i dont need this one,as the error should appear only when the form is submitted.

I have a dropdown list control which I populate at run time with the first item being like "-- Select an Item --", for example. I need the user to select an item from the list apart from the first item displayed. I tried using required field validators and setting the InitialValue property to "-- Select an Item --". But this does not seem to work. dropdown list is programmtically populated based on certain decisions presented to the user.

We have a page with quite a few textboxes and a dropdown list at the end. The dropdown list at the end is a "Result" and dependant on the result certain textboxes need to be filled in and this needs to be checked when they submit the page. I was thinking of using a custom validator

I am stuck at this point "Displaying a dropdown list of Categories with a --None -- Option. I want the gridview control to display 2 dropdown list one in read-only mode and the other in edit mode. When a record is in read-only mode, the dropdownlist's enabled property will be set to false."When it's on a read-only mode, it doesn't display the selected Category. it shows but the "No Category". When i click on edit to edit or change category, it doesn't display the selected category.
The example is given below( I am reading the book Sams Teach yourself ASP.NET 2.0 by Scott Mitchell. page 628)

I am using MVC 2 with Entity Framework 4 models and MetadataType classes to create annotations that do not vanish everytime my model is generated... I followed Scott's article to create that.It worked fine for simple classes, but when I got to a more complex one, with regular expression and range validations on doubles, it seemed to simply ignore the validation annotations altogether.

I am trying to make some sense of this validation stuff in MVC2. I followed various walkthroughs, all them for betas/rcs... and I cant' get anythign to happen. Note: THIS JQUERY - NOT THE MS AJAX STUFF!I have referenced MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation.js which i got got the mvc2 futures lib.
My model is:
[Code]....
The form bit of my ViewPage<User>:
[Code]....
As far as I can see the only additional thing that is being rendered is this:
[Code]....
Which is interesting/annoying for a few reasons. Firstly all of my annotations appear to have been ignored.Secondly FormId isn't even marked as required, and as this rendered text was taken from a page loaded with a null Model (add mode) the FormId field isn't in the form. Finally, this doesn't even result in any actual validation occuring (on the client side). All the server side validation is working fine.See I am using PasswordFor instead of EditorFor. Because someone at MS testing dropped the ball there. Yes EditorFor renders a password field, but it behaves differently to PasswordFor.. the value of the Password field is sent to the client (set in the value
attribute of the field). Fail.

I'm trying to achieve the following:
Where:
Surname is always required NI Number OR Reference Number is required Is this beyond the scope of the ASP.NET Validation Controls? The only solution I can think of is writing some bespoke javascript (for client side) and backing that up with some server side code.

I've got a custom Editor Template that is essentially:
<div id="control">
<%: Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.Day, Model.Days)%>
<%: Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.Month, Model.Months)%>
<%: Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.Year, Model.Years)%>
</div>
Whilst my validation is successful/fine with this control (ValidationMessageFor works) I have been unable to find how to highlight the control when validation fails (e.g. with a TextBoxFor the textbox border goes red if validation fails)
Does anyone know how I can add this behaviour with a custom editor template?

I have 2 drop down lists.I have a very simple dropdown list #1 that diplays a title and holds an id value which is a GUID.I know it is getting this value and sending this value as I tested sending it to a label.I have the dropdown list #1 to autopostback to dropdown list #2 that "Is supposed to get" another title and value based on the GUID value of the first dropdown list. for some reason it wont return anything. I have done 100's of these but never based off a guid value.I assume the value needs to be converted to guid before selecting it in the second dropdown list.How can I do this? or is there something I am missing?

I have the following structure 3 Dropdown Boxes, the 2nd and 3rd dependant on the 1st and when I change the first combo the pages refreshes with error I am assuming it's happening when posting back. I have nothing in my code behind file for this page so far.
Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.
This is a very Basic application that I am creating using Visual Basic and ASP.Net 3.5. Am using a SQL Datasource have searched for this error some of the answers seem extremely complex and I can't figure them out, surely a simple tasks like this has to be easy to bind back to the database from several drop down lists.

I'm attempting to write a unit tests for an ASP.NET MVC 2 post action that takes a view model as its sole parameter. The view model is decorated with validation attributes such as [Required]. I'd like to test two scenarios. The first scenario is when a valid set of data is passed in (ie, all required properties have values) and a redirect to the list page is returned. The second scenario involves passing in invalid data (eg, when one or more of the Required properties are not set). In this case the same view is returned with error messages.The action signature is as follows:
[HttpPost]
public virtual ActionResult Create(NewsViewModel model)
The NewsViewModel class is as follows:
public class NewsViewModel
{
public Guid Id { get; set; }

I know this is kind of simple in my head but the logic has been driving me nuts going through it. I'm trying to build a string from 2 list boxes. Once they select an item in the first list box (that's pulling the list items dynamically from a database), then the second list box appears. Once they select the second list box the video player below it displays a flash video that they chose based on which camera and the date/time of that particular camera. The path for the flash video (.flv) is in the database. I get everything to work up to displaying the flv player but it doesn't play the video since the path to the flv isn't there. Here is the code I currently have along with the queries.
[Code]....
