Pop Up With Wizard Control - UpdatePanel Vs Iframe

Oct 19, 2010

My Job wants me to create a popup with an updatepanel inside of it. The updatepanel would have a wizard control that would take you through some steps. Would it be better to use and Iframe to simulate an updatepanel between steps or just use an updatepanel?

AJAX :: UpdatePanel Versus Wizard WebControl / Page.Response

Mar 30, 2010

I have a normal Wizard WebControl. On the first page of the Wizard, in the StartNavigationTemplate, I've added a button. When clicked, the button will generate a PDF (using iTextSharp) and post it back through Response.OutputStream. All this works just fine.

Now I want to wrap my Wizard in an AJAX UpdatePanel, to make it switch through the steps smoothly. However, this means that the Response from my PDF button is intercepted and does not do a post back. My solution to this was to add a PostBackTrigger for the PDF button, but since the button is in a template I ended up adding it dynamically. Here is how my final code looks like:

[Code]....

[Code]....

- if I load the page and the first thing I do is to click on the PDF button, then the PDF file is returned as a normal post back

- if I load the page, navigate to step 2, return to step 1 and then click on the PDF file, then the Response is intercepted by the UpdatePanel and not displayed.

Using JS Event Handlers Inside A Wizard Inside An Updatepanel?

Feb 28, 2010

I've got a textbox being used to enter a password inside a wizard control. I'm trying to get a password strength meter working with it.

Unfortunately, the password box isn't visible until step 4 and this means that I can't register the event handler onload() and putting some JS next to the PW box to register the event handler doesn't seem to fire. I'm guessing this is due to the contents of the wizard being loaded through an AJAX postback.

AJAX :: How To Get An Array Of All The Textbox Control Inside Create User Wizard Control

Aug 10, 2010

How can I get all the textboxes inside a create user wizard control using getElementsByTagName().

Below is my JQuery code:

[Code]....

The above code isn't displaying hint text when the textbox retreives focus.

I think there is something wrong with this getElementsByTagName("asp:TextBox"); , I have also tried getElementsByTagName("TextBox"); , getElementsByTagName(":textbox"); and getElementsByTagName("input"); .

But no one of them gets the textboxes array.

Can anyone tell what will be the correct syntax for getting all the textboxes inside a create user wizard control using getElementsByTagName()?

C# - Managing Many To Many Relationships In Asp.net Wizard Control?

May 27, 2010

Say I have this entity with a lot of attributes. In the input form I have decided to implement a wizard control so I can collect information about this entity in several steps. The problem is that I need to collect information that has been modeled has many to many relationships. I am planning to use a telerik gridview to manage this (add/edit/delete), the problem is where do I store that data since the entity in a insert form is not created on the database yet. OK so I can store all that info in temporary lists residing in the viewstate, waiting for the final submit where I dump all that in the DB, but one of the steps I am collecting files...now storing files in the viewstate is out of the question, same as as storing them in the session...I have been thinking of implementing in a way that the user has to submit some info first (say first 3 steps), commit the data to the database creating the parent entity and then start inserting all the childs entities...but this will get weird as it's confusing since on the first steps you not saving the data to the DB and on the next ones you are commiting directly...

Custom Server Controls :: Paging And Sorting Gridview Custom Control Inside Of A Wizard Control?

Dec 24, 2010

here's a situation and I would appreciate your response.

I have programmatically created the Wizard control:

Page_Load(obj s, evargs e)
{
Wizard ClaimDetailWizard = new Wizard();
foreach(int item in selectedItems)
{
//create new step
//added custom control to new step
//add step to wizard
}
//added wizard to a placeholder on a page
}

Based on List I get from Session i added new steps to my wizard To each step I had added a custom control

Each custom control in tern contains another custom Gridview Control in it.

So here's the problem when the page loads for example for two steps. All is good Wizard does what it's supposed to do.

But when I try to use sorting or paging in that custom Gridview. Somehow it displays the gridview I should see in the next step of the wizard.

Also what I'm noticing through debugging. Is that when I press next in the wizard I go back to the original page where I do all of the code specified above, and it recreates the wizzard. But it goes to the next step. Is this the way wizard supposed to work? Just doesn't seem very efficient.

Web Forms :: Iframe Dynamic Resize Or Iframe Alternative?

Feb 9, 2011

I have created a web application that docks other web applications into it.When an application is docked the app creates a link button in its "tool box" on the left hand side of the page, users can easily click on any link button to navigate to the desired docked app.

I have a web app that uses iframes to display other web applications inside it. In effect it is a docking application where users can easily access many web applications from within one main app, while staying within the main app. I am having challenges dynamically resizing the iframe based on the size of the application the user is accessing.I have searched the web and tried many ideas but have yet to discover the code that will do the trick.

First, for a docking web application is the iframe the best approach? I have see some posts on ajax but am uncertain how that will help.

Second, if an iframe is the way to do it does anyone have code that will completely liminate the need for iframe scroll bars?

Note:The applications docked in the main we app may be of any size and can change size as users interact with them.

Activation Email Without Create Wizard Control?

Jun 20, 2010

I know there is a lot of information regardind sending activation e-mails, but I have just found information regarding the Create Wizard control, and I'm doing all the forms manually. Right now, I'm able to register a user name in a SQL Server Database, and then an e-mail is sent to this new user to the corresponding em-mail address, the columns the user has to register are:

ID
Name
Nickname
Password (SHA1 hash)
E-mail

I don't know if it is the best approach, and also, there are somethings I don't know how to do. Creating another column in the database table, then a Trigger that on insert fills that column (or just a query that fills it) with for instance "Inactive". Creating a guid code. (What is the guid? and what is it for?) In the email generated attach a link that will open the confirmation.aspx page that will run a code on load that will compare the necessary fields with the database. If the comparison is succesful the page will run a query to update acivation column from "Inactive" to "Active". When the user wants to login compare "username" "Password" and check "Activation" columns before enabling the log-in. THe thing is that I don't know is what is the guid is for, and how to use the data to embed it in the link. Because I have seen something like confirmation.aspx?username or something like that that you have to do.

Session Variable Not Being Saved When Using Wizard Control

Apr 15, 2010

I have a wizard control. When someone clicks a button within the wizard control I automatically advance to the next step (rather than forcing them to click next). However, this seems to cause the session state variable not to be saved. I've done some research and noticed that Response.Redirect does hard redirects that truncate page execution - and that you can add a false parameter to prevent this...what I'm wondering is if the wizard control is doing the same thing and if so, if I can add a parameter to this as well?
