Request.Files Is Empty On Flash Control Postback?
Sep 16, 2010
I'm using the new Aurigma Image Uploader Flash control, and creating sample pages works great. However, when I drop this control onto an existing page on my existing site, it doesn't work. I can only suspect something in the masterpage or something else on the page is messing with it.

My app has broken after upgrading to ASP.NET 2.0. The problem is that Request.QueryString is empty when the SelectedIndexChanged event of a IE Web Controls tab strip is fired. It worked perfectly in ASP.NET 1. I have the tab strip contained within my own UserControl.

I'm using a custom ashx handler to handle a file upload. When run locally, the file uploads fine.When I use the same setup on the web server I get a "Index out of range" error.In firebug I see the binary contents of the file in the post data and the file name is also passed in the query string.Any one seen this before?I`m sure its something minor, but its driving me up the wall.

I am using Asp.net and requirement specifies i use html input to post files to server rather than asp:fileupload.[ Reason : Add more html input file controls similar to CPanel file manager.(i.e) clicking on link adds another file input from which user can select another file*.But when ever i post back Request Files collection is always empty.*
HTML FORM:
<form method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="documents.aspx">
<div>
<input type="file" name="attachment" id="attachment" onchange="validate(this)" />
<span class="none">Filename should be within (1-25) letters long. Can Contain only letters
& numbers</span>
<div id="moreUploads">
</div>
<div id="moreUploadsLink" style="display: none;">
<a href="javascript:addFileInput();">Attach another File</a></div>
<input type="submit" id="btnSubmit" />
</div>
</form>
Javascript:
var upload_number = 2;function addFileInput() {
try {
var fileUpload = document.getElementById("attachment");
var elemSpan = nextElement(fileUpload).cloneNode(true);
var elemDiv = document.getElementById("moreUploads");
var d = document.createElement("div");
var file = document.createElement("input");
file.setAttribute("type", "file");
file.setAttribute("id", "attachment" + upload_number);
file.setAttribute("onchange", "validate(this)");
d.appendChild(file);
d.appendChild(elemSpan);
elemDiv.appendChild(d);
upload_number++;
} catch (err) { alert(err);}}
the validate(this) is a function that validates file types on client.When validation succeeds then the link to add more file inputs is enabled. Could someone throw somelight on this.

public class DualListPanel : SWebControl, INamingContainer
{
protected IList<DlpItem> UnassignedList { get; set; }

I've got an ASP.NET web application (utilizing WebForms) and am using Uploadify to handle uploading large files. This is done by posting the file to an HttpHandler.
Example of code (simplified for demonstration purposes):
$(".uploadify").uploadify({[CODE]....
the progress bar being displayed doesn't actually reflect the progress of the upload, and shows the upload as being complete long before the file is actually uploaded. Therefore, the user interface effectively appears like it is doing nothing while the progress bar stays at 100%, until the file is complete.
In some cases, the upload simply fails after reaching 100%, with the OnComplete event never getting fired, almost like the response from the HttpHandler is getting lost in transit, even though the file is saved.I've tried both Flajaxian and SWFUpload, and experienced similar issues with the progress bar being completely out of sync with actual upload progress, indicating completion well before the upload was actually complete.
This problem is not apparent when testing locally, or with small files (typically under a few megabytes) as these tend to upload fairly quickly and there's little or no lag between the file being uploaded and the progress bar completing.Is there any way of using a Flash upload solution (such as Uploadify) with an ASP.NET web application and have the progress bar better represent the actual progress of the upload?
Update: Eventually, I gave up trying to use a flash based uploader as they seemed a bit too awkward, especially the progress bar, which didn't represent the actual progress of the upload at all. Replaced this with Brettle NeatUpload instead which works much better.

I have looked at various options for uploading files asynchronously in ASP.NET. the default Microsoft control does full postback, AsyncFileUpload control has only one button and cannot change the text and appearance and I need two buttons browse and upload. not interested in flash based controls. I found this
http://mattberseth.com/blog/2008/07/aspnet_file_upload_with_realti/.
html close to what I need. it uses iframe to achieve this, but I would like a simplified version of this. I just want to display an image while uploading, I don't need number of bytes transferred etc. how can I achieve this? I just need to upload the file asynchronously without page flickering and save the file to the server and update the page contents after the upload is complete.

I have various web pages that need to build up a URL to display or place it in an emitted email message. The code I inherited had this value for the name of the webserver in a Public Const in a Public Class called FixedConstants. For example:
Public Const cdServerName As String = "WEBSERVERNAME"
Trying to improve on this, I wrote this:
Public Class UIFunction
Public Shared myhttpcontext As HttpContext
Public Shared Function cdWebServer() As String
Dim s As New StringBuilder("http://")
Dim h As String
h = String.Empty
Try
h = Current.Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST").ToString()
Catch ex As Exception
Dim m As String
m = ex.Message.ToString() 'Ignore this should-not-occur thingy
End Try
If h = String.Empty Then
h = "SomeWebServer"
End If
s.Append(h)
s.Append("/")
Return s.ToString()
End Function
I've tried different things while debugging such as HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostName and I always get an empty string which pumps out my default string "SomeWebServer". I know Request.UserHostName or Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST") works when invoked from a page but why does this return empty when invoked from a called method of a class file (i.e. UIFunction.vb)?

I'm working on ASP.NET 4.0 and I'm having problems for saving the selected value in a DropDownList.
I initialize it in the Web Control's PreRender method as follows:
if (!Page.IsPostBack)
LoadCountryList();
Where LoadCountryList's code is:
private void LoadCountryList()
{
var vr = new CountryRepository();
var countryList = vr.GetAllForList();
DdlCountry.EnableViewState = true;
DdlCountry.DataValueField = "code";
DdlCountry.DataTextField = "name";
dlCountry.DataSource = countryList;
DdlCountry.DataBind();
}
After I submit the form, I've noticed the DropDownList is empty(it's not before postback). If you take a look at my code, I've enabled the ViewState for this control, but I'm not getting any results yet. Does anybody know what's going on?
EDIT:
Here is the simple code of the control in the aspx file:
<asp:DropDownList Runat="server" ID="DdlCountry">
</asp:DropDownList>

I've looked at answers to some similar question but I still can't seem to figure this out. I think I'm misunderstanding something about how ASP.NET works.In the standard ASP.Net 4.0 'Create a new Account' form, I've added a DropDownList containing Roles to be selected for the new account. in the aspx page, the control looks like this:
<asp:DropDownList ID="RoleList" Width="100px" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList>
I am then populating the List in the Page_Load Event:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
RegisterUser.ContinueDestinationPageUrl = Request.QueryString["ReturnUrl"];

A form contains 2 cascading dropdowns. When an item is selected in the first dropdown, jQuery retrieves a list (json) from the server and fills the 2nd dropdown.
The user posts the page to the server, and when the page is returned the dropdown is empty because its not stored in viewstate.
What do you do in this situation? Is this the point where cascading dropdowns using jQuery and trying to make your page a little more stateless gets tedious?
