SQL Insert - How To Combine More Than One Field Value To A Single Column Insert

Jan 18, 2010

I have a form with many form fields and controls, with some offering an "other" if a value does not meet the needs for the user. How can I bind the sql insert so that it will take the ddl selection along with the txt field selection for the "other" value? Even if the txt field is empty it should not be a big deal since the ddl would provide something other than null. Since the column in the db does not allow nulls. I'm using asp.net (vb) 3.5 sp1

Retrieving Images From A Mysql Longblob Field?

Feb 25, 2011

I store images in mysql as a longblob. The image control only takes an imageurl, so I have to have an ashx page serve up the images and then the image control uses that page as the imageurl. It works, but does that mean I have to do this for each image, kinda gets complicated for a lot of images.

Or should I just store the images on the hard disk? I am worried though about the space I would need if my site grows, as I want it scalable.

SQL Server :: SQL Server Float Field To Data Table Double Field?

Nov 3, 2010

I have a SQL Server table with a number of fields that are defined with the "Float" data type. I'm running a simple query to retrieve the data from this table and use it to populate a Data Table in my C#.net application.

I just discovered that the data type of the Data Table fields is Double, not Float as I expected. As such, when I store a value like 0.157 it ends up getting stored like this: 0.15700000524520874

I'm aware that such extra "noise" occurs when such a conversion occurs. My major question has to do with why .Net didn't set the Data Type to Float (ie. Single) when the table was first populated?

I am looking to have a default fax number appear in the box when the page loads, for example (999) 999-9999.

How To Specify A Default Value For A Field In A .NET Details View Insert Mode

Jul 7, 2010

.NET newbie. I know there has to be a way to do this.I have a details view with it's default mode set to Insert. This is to be used as a form for users to enter records into a database. For two of the fields, I want to pre-populate the field with information. Specifically, I have a vb script with a few functions to query Active Directory to return the user's name based upon their user id. This script works fine.I call the functions for the user name like this:

<InsertItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtUserID" runat="server" Text='<%#CurrentUID() %>'></asp:TextBox>
</InsertItemTemplate>
<InsertItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtUserName" runat="server" Text='<%# GetUserName(CurrentUID()) %>'></asp:TextBox>
</InsertItemTemplate>

When the page loads, this populates the text boxes with the user id and the user name.But when the form is submitted, the values in the text boxes are not inserted in to the database.How can I set default values for the fields when the values come from functions?

I've tried a few different ways but none seem to insert NULL, the one below still inserts "", can anyone point me in the right direction.

Here is the required part of the code, if you require more just let me know.

So if I enter nothing into address1 field it should write NULL to screen but it always writes NOT NULL.
