SQL Server :: Using CASE Statement In "IN" Clause Of Query?

Sep 29, 2010

I have a sql datasource with the ControlParameter called ddlDropDownList.

2 questions:

1. Is my syntax below ok, I am getting a runttime error that the syntax is incorrect.

2. I have the select statement set up the control parameter to get the selected value from the dropdownlist as shown below, is that syntax correct? especially the "selectedItem.value" for the propertyname property.

SQL Server :: Case Statement Works One Way But Not The Other?

Dec 15, 2010

I have been working on a stored procedure to calculate likert scales for course evaluations. I have the stored procedure done but I ran into an interesting but frustrating situation.

I used a case statement along with a select query to count the number of responses of a given value. Likert scales are usually 5 point scales 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. The value that gave me the trouble was null values. In my evaluation page the instert query puts a null value in the field instead of leaving the response blank. These are the two queries I used both are syntactically correct but one works and the other doesn't. #1 Null query that works

[Code]....

Can anyone explain the differences and why one works but the other doesn't? Can it be as simple as switching the WHEN and the column name and if it is would it be advisable the other ones around?

DataSource Controls :: Linq - Update Statement Where Clause?

May 25, 2010

I am using Linq to SQL. Tables have timestamp columns and I am using regular Linq methodology in ASP.NET MVC.I do use detached entities and always try to do updates without first querying the database for the original entity. To update an entity I use context.Attach(entity, true) followed by context.SubmitChanges() and all is fine. The sql statement that gets executed looks like:

C# - Clause Is Used Inside Linq Statement Produces Different Results Than When Used Outside?

Aug 8, 2010

I have the following statement:

List<string> tracks = new List<string> { "ABC", "DEF" };
var items = (from i in Agenda.AgendaSessions
select i).Where(p => p.Tracks.Any(s => tracks.Contains(s.Code)));

this returns all sessions which track contains either ABC or DEF, now when I rewrite the statement like the following, it returns All sessions regardless, as if the clause always yeilds into true,

var items = from i in Agenda.AgendaSessions
where i.Tracks.Any(s=> tracks.Contains(s.Code))
select i;

Update

if there are other clauses within the where, does that affect the results?

Working on a heavy ajax based site with over 100 methods from all the ajax calls inside each of each controller all with basically the same code.Was thinking of changing them to a big case statement for readability which would keep the code a bit more dry and make it easier to read.What I am wondering is: Will there be a performance hit and is there a better way to deal with it?

Databases :: Case Sensitive Sorting When Running A Query?

Mar 4, 2010

When doing a query e.g. "select ID from myTable order By SomeStringField" from SQL Developer my data the data are sorted correctly according to database settings:

Abc
abc
Bcd
bcd

But when using the System.Data.OracleClient namespace and a DbProviderFactory to create a DbCommand and use that to create a DbDataReader, the data is sorted case sensitive:

Abc
Bcd
abc
bcd

Is there some setting on the command which needs to be set? Can you even change the case sensitivity in the .net framwork, overriding the database settings?

I am very new to AD and querying it. If you can, how do you specify case sensitivity in the LDAP query?

I have a series of methods that convert a lamda expression into an LDAP query but i don't know the syntax for case-sensitive searching.

The field it is searching is case-insensitive but as it is a base attribute i don't want to modify it.

DataSource Controls :: Clause Criteria Eliminating Records In Outer Join Query?

Feb 15, 2010

I know I'm missing something here but I can't figure out what it is. I've got a query joining three tables....accounts, payments, and a table linking the two (there is a M:M relationship).I'm trying to pull a list of all accounts in the account table that have a payment that needs to be resequenced, and also the maximum payment priority if there are any payments that haven't been fully paid. If all payments HAVE been fully paid, I want to return a 0.

It's that last bit of logic that I can't get right. If I include that in the where clause, I get only the accounts that have a payment that hasn't been fully paid. If I take it out, I get all the accounts I get, but I get the highest payment priority whether or not the payment has been fully met.

Here is the query....how do I include the where clause criteria but still include all accounts?

select distinct
bat.acct_id,
isnull(max(isnull(crt.pymt_priority, 0)), 0)[code].....

Root Path With Tilde - Doesn't Change Upper Case To Lower Case

Dec 30, 2010

I have my project set up with the virtual path "/MyVirtualPath", create the virtual directory in IIS 6 (W2003) and everything works fine. Then to work better with Google Analytics I change the virtual path "/myvirtualpath" and change all redicecciones and links to lowercase. also applies the class "lowercase route urls in aspnet mvc" and works perfectly.

The problem I had to modify the virtual directory in IIS, delete virtual path "/MyVirtualPath" and I created the new "/myvirtualpath", but in all cases I use tilde "~" or where I make a "RedirecToAction" (which should take "LowercaseRoute"), continues to maintain the virtual path "/MyVirtualPath". For example, if I see the HTML source code in the browser, see "/MyVirtualPath/Content/Site.css" instead of "/myvirtualpath/Content/Site.css. "

DataSource Controls :: LINQ To Entities Sub - Query - Doesn't Support The "IN" Clause

Apr 7, 2010

I'm having trouble writing what should be a simple sub-query using LINQ to Entities. I have two tables: Customers and Orders that have a relation on the CustID field. Not all Customers have a record in the Orders table, while some have mutiple records. In traditional SQL, you could write the query like this: SELECT * FROM Orders where CustID IN (SELECT CustID FROM Customers) I know this could be done as a JOIN in both SQL and L2E, but my actual query is more complex (about 8-9 joins), so I am hoping to find a L2E sub-query equivalent. Something like this:

[Code]....

I know LINQ to Entities does not support the " IN " clause, so I am looking for something that will work in its place.
