I am working on an Ecommerce website. I have created a database using Server Explorer named 'MyTestStore' and created Tables and Stored procedures inside it.
Than I used the program called aspnet_regsql.exe (which is in:
C:windowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727) to create the membership and roles tables. And this tool created all the membership tables in the MyTestStore database. All is fine till this point.
Enabling Roles:
Now I need to enable roles, insert admin and users into this membership tables in my database. so I opened up ASP.Net Configuration Tool but when I enable and create roles it automatically creates a database called ASPNETDB under App_Data folder whereas, I want to have the roles enabled in the database MyTestStore. But it keeps creating the database ASPNETDB. How do Imap the ASP.Net configuration Tool to create and add users into my database called MyTestStore instead of that default ASPNETDB.
I've created an ASP.Net 4.0 web application. It uses Forms Authentication. I have an ASPNETDB.mdf file in my App_Data folder courtesy of SQLEXPRESS. I have appropriate settings in my web.config for connection strings and providers (since I know it will be asked for:
I have roles and users setup. I have been running this with absolutely no problems in both my dev environment (i.e. Cassini) and on a "production" (not really, but a machine that was published to). And the "production" machine still has no problems.
So, everything has been working perfectly fine until early this afternoon and all of a sudden it all stopped. The only things I did from when it worked until it stopped was: I connected to and checked in all my code to a TFS server (2010) and then I updated namespaces all around. I have not made any changes to my web.config since it worked, nor to the database. I'm really not sure what happened. Oh, and the "production" machine never got the namespace updates. But, it did get a publish immediately before I uploaded everything into TFS.
It started with me getting a login failure in my app. I know the login is correct (it still works on the published system). So, I went into the Website Admin Tool and clicked onProvider Configuration -> Select a single provider... -> Click on Test next to AspNetSqlProvider (only option). I get back an error: "Could not establish a connection to the database." So, this tells me that for some reason, it can't see my database. All my roles and users still show up though in Security.
Since these two actions, I have wiped out all my code locally and refreshed from the first changeset in TFS. Still no workie. I still get the "Could not establish..." in WAT. Every post I can find online keeps talking about connectionStrings and database configuration (i.e. aspnet_regsql). However, since this was just working with no issues, I'm pretty sure none of these are my problem. Especially since I refreshed my code to an earlier "working" state (prior to namespace changes) to no effect.
I am not yet at the point that I'm willing to wipe my database and start over. Again, because this was working before. I have noticed and read several posts by Sukumar Raju among others (including his blog posts, one here) and none of them helped or were quite related to my specific issue. Good information, but not what I needed.
I'm sure something went offline somewhere and I can't see it. I did check to make sure that the SQLEXPRESS services (including Browser, etc.) were started. Even restarted them to no avail. I'm sure it has to be something simple and I'm just missing it somewhere.
1. On OnCreatedUser event, I create a folder for each members, so that they can store their files inside those. The thing is I use User.Provider key as a folder name. Is this a good way to store? Is this OK from security view point. Otherwise I am planning to use the User.Username. Here are the codes inside the OnCreatedUser event.
[Code]....
2. Inside these user folders I want to put web.config at run time [at the time of registration]. So that a member cannot access files of other members at any cost. Do you have any idea on creating web.config file at runtime inside these folders? Else if you can provide me any other options, I am eager to listen that. I don't want to call database frequently. So if there is any easy solution.
Sometimes MS provides error message so silly that its hard to understnad and you feel like throwing away all things.
My Web.Config does not contain any entries of MemberShip, Role or Profile.
I want to create a membership provider dynamically through code at runtime. I wrote following code and it receives following error message. I don;t know how come machine.config error appears in my application. how annoying.
Parser Error Message: The connection name 'LocalSqlServer' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty.
I have a multi level application that I am developing and need to block multiple rows from being joined. I know how to hide one role but I cannot figure out how to hide multiple.
Newb question: what is the standard practice for assigning roles to newly signed-on members. Is it usually manual or is there a way of automatically assigning roles. Being completely new to this, I am confronted by the issue of my site having three different roles that new members could fall into, but am unsure about how to assign each a role. I can't imagine having to go through the process manually if I have thousands of members.
Because of firewall issues, I have to have all of my database access on my production machine run through a wcf service. I've done this without problem throughout my site, but the issue remains for the AspNetSqlProvider provider. Is there a way to connect to the AspNetSqlProvider through a service?
I need to implement Code Access Security, and URL based security using the roles & types...
For instance, the (Subscriber/Basic) would need to view a different set of pages, and have different access to things then a (Subscriber/Business).
I think I can handle the Code Access security with a custom attribute, but I am unsure to how enforce a User be apart of 2 roles in the URL Authorization.
I am currently using the web.config to deny/allow access to the directories/pages.
e.g.
/Areas/Admin/web.config
[Code]....
Is it possible to force the user to be apart of 2 roles with this technique?
I have a DataTable where the columns are generated programmatically at runtime. I then bind this DataTable to a GridView. What I'm wondering is how I can create the GridView to accommodate this, and if it's not possible, how I can output the DataTable into nicely formatted HTML.
Newbie in using AJAX . Programming in C# and using SQL as a database. Here is my scenario. User selects a project and I want to display the subprojects related to that project. Here is the query I use to retrieve subprojects.
"SELECT SubProjectName,StartDate,Description FROM SubProject WHERE ProjectName'"+ddlProjectName.text+"';
Currently I store the results of the query in a Dataset. I want to get the SubProjectName in the Header of the Accordion and StartDate and Description values to the text box for each accordion. ( This is what I need to do in each accordian for each subproject)
I have a Masterpage that has Treeview. You can select some nodes there. Based on the selection you get some items in the Default.aspx's Placeholder, you get a image and a linkbutton placed in a Panel. Like this :
This code is in the Default.aspx that has the Masterpage.
[Code]....
There seems to be problem when i create the controllers at runtime, when the site does a postback, lets say if i click "Enska" in the treeview i get the results in the image above. Lets say that i then click "The Punk Panther" i get a error.
An error has occurred because a control with id 'ctl00$CPH_Main$ctl05' could not be located or a different control is assigned to the same ID after postback. If the ID is not assigned, explicitly set the ID property of controls that raise postback events to avoid this error.
Also, how would i go by making a event handler for the linkbutton at runtime, can i make one event handler that every linkbutton uses or what ? I want the folder and the linkbutton to be clickable and link to the same place, is it simpler to make the whole Panel clickable, if so, how would i get a "OnClick" event on it ?
I have a requirement whereby one or more image buttons need to be created in a user control at runtime. The number of buttons is determined from a database where a user can add one or more rows that contain an image for each button, so if a user adds 3 images to a table, 3 image buttons are created. Ive used this code but I get an error at runtime
The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases.
[Code]....
this is the usercontrol aspx
[Code]....
I basically want one or more buttons to render within the div in the usercontrol. Ive only got the code written for one button at the moment while I test the rendering, eventually they will be rendered in a loop of records taken from a database. Whats the best way to do this ?
I need to create aspx pages on the fly or at the runtime.I read that creating a template page and posting content to the page would be a solution, in a few posts in the forum. Can i get information on this method.
i am creating some of the control at runtime according database values. problem is that when i click onto the button, if the text box is empty, the required field validator(genrated at runtime) show first time that the text box is empty. but one agin i click on to the button, it doest show any error messege and all of the control which i am genrating at run time are hiding when i see at the page source, no control is find there.

I'm having problems binding controls at runtime. I've some user controls which need to be bind to the page when one of the dropdownlist selected index changed.
I can able to bind them properly but when if there is any postback event happens I am losing the controls and control values which were created runtime.
I've an item template inside a grid which has a <asp:LinkButton/> inside it. I assign the text for the link button as
<%# Convert.ToString(Eval("Tags"))%>
Tags can have a string with multiple tags in it delimited by space. For eg. "sports", "sports cricket", "sports cricket sachin" are the examples of some possible tags.
I want to create a button for each tag inside the string. How can i create the controls (server control - linkbutton) dynamically during runtime inside the grid item template?
I have used .net login control to authenticate user,i have three types of role ,role1,role2 and role3 and i have users and user have different roles.
now my requirement is like as per loggedin user i want to redirect user on particular page as per role.
for example if loggedin user role is role1 than he will redirect default1.aspx for example if loggedin user role is role2 than he will redirect default2.aspx for example if loggedin user role is role3 than he will redirect default3.aspx
and one question if same user may be have more than one role than what should happen???
I got a solution for same than if we are used "loggingin" event than it would be possible but i had placed login control in login view anonymous template because as per my requirement i want that after successfull login user can't see login control on page.thats why i didn't get the login control event on code.
can any one tell how to create the roles in asp.net? when ever Admin creates the roles, there it self he should assing the pages, which pages should be open when ever perticular person enters in to the site. When ever Admin wants to assing the Roles, all pages appear in grid view with check box,if he checks that pages,he able to access other wise he couldnot access that page.
