Security :: CreateUserWizard Not Showing Any Errors By Re-using An Email
Sep 30, 2010
I thought I had this working, but right now I'm confused. When I try to cause an error by re-using an email, it gives me the success message, even though nothing is added.
This is my CreateUserWizard
<asp:CreateUserWizard ID="CreateUserWizard1" OnCreatedUser="CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser"

I'm using emails as the user name, and I've got requiresUniqueEmail="true" in the web.config.
I have an empty CreatingUser method, and in CreatedUser I perform a couple of table entries with the new user.
When I try to add a user with an email that's already in use, I get a the default success message. But no user is added, and
it doesn't reach the CreatedUser method.

I'm hoping to discover how to add an email validation step to the CreateUserWizard. I've seen many sites where I create my membership, and then I receive an email at the address I gave, which holds an encoded link back to the website. It allows the website to confirm the email is working. I'd like to add this. I've found out how to use the maildefinitionbodyfile with user generated items, but can't find this function to require a reply by email. Could someone give an overview of what's involved (if it's complicated), or point out how to do it (if it is a built in function I'm not aware of). If there was a code sample somewhere, that would be the best possible outcome...

Im using the following code:
[code]....
To return a partial view and a form through JSON. It works as it should, but as soon as I get modelstate errors my ValidationSummary does not show. The JSON only return the default form but it does not highlight the validation errors or show the validation summary.
Am I missing something?
This is how I call the RenderPartialToString:
string partialView = RenderPartialToString(this.ControllerContext, "~/Areas/User/Views/Account/ChangeAccountDetails.ascx", new ViewDataDictionary(avd), new TempDataDictionary());

Imagine, a model like this:
[AddressValidation]
public AddressType[] Address { get; set; }
internal class AddressValidation : ValidationAttribute
{
public override bool IsValid(object value)
{
//Assume we are valid
var isValid = true;
//Cast to something useful
var addresses = (AddressType[])value;
var defaultAddresses = addresses.Count(a => a.AddressCode == AddressCodeEnum.@default);
if (defaultAddresses == 0)
{
ErrorMessage = "One address must be the default address";
isValid = false;
}
else if (defaultAddresses > 1)
{
ErrorMessage = "Only one address can be the default address";
isValid = false;
}
//Return the result
return isValid;
}
}
When the model is validated by the controller, any of the subordinate addresses are properly validated and any errors are returned as modelstate errors. However, the custom attribute's error is never added to modelstate, even though it validates false. It seems as if this should work, the validation is called and I can step through it - it just never gets added to modelstate.

I'm new to c# and I seem to be having a problem with an error message. If my textbox is left empty my code will throw a format exception and display the message in a label. If I then add a number to the textbox it runs correctly but the error message remains.

In the application, there is an HTML page that references a .dll (dllMain) using an <object> tag.
dllMain references several other dlls (dll1, dll2, and dll3).
When the web page is loaded, it loads just fine and everything works.
However, there is a bit of a delay in the load time, using fiddler I discovered that it is trying to find dll1, ddl2, and dll3 and failing, resulting in 404 errors... by watching the web page load while watching fiddler, it is clear the delay is from the 404 errors originating from trying to find these embedded dlls.
Is there any way to make the application stop probing for these embedded dlls? Clearly it doesnt need to since the application is working even though these aren't being found?

I am developing a web application in which I am suddenly facing an issue. I have a webpage which contains many controls, one of the control is JQuery color picker. Now, I am upgrading my system with telerik controls. As part of this process, I replaced textbox(txtcolor) with radcolorpicker with a different id(colorPicker). Suddenly, my code behind file is not throwing any errors like 'unable to find txtColor'. It is running successfully without build errors. But, when I open the page, system is throwing runtime exception(txtColor not found) which is correct.
I tried to change other controls with asp.net controls, still the problem persists. So, I dont think it is anything to do with telerik.

I have a password recovery control on my login page. I want to have it send the user specified (and after question/answer filled out correctly) password in an email. I keep throwing an error though, saying that the SMTP needs authentication. I've used a lot of email capabilities in my application, but I set all the SmtpClient properties programmatically, so I never had to rely on system.net mailSettings section of the web.config file. But now I am relying on it, because I am not intercepting any events (unless that would be easiest) of the password recovery control. Here is my system.net excerpt from my web.config file:
[Code]....
What am I not doing here to specify SMTP authentication? Why am I throwing this error? I'm putting my credentials in there with username and password. Am I not configuring the PasswordRecovery control correctly?

I'm trying to configure the logging settings to log all events in a database and event viewer but email only errors and warnings. Database and Event Viewer part works fine except that I'm not getting any email for errors.
Note: There isn't any problem with smtp settings because I get event's emails if I add the listener to "General" and "All events" in category sources.
Here is my config: (I'm using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging 3.1.0.0)
<loggingConfiguration name="Logging Application Block" tracingEnabled="true" defaultCategory="General" logWarningsWhenNoCategoriesMatch="false">
<listeners>
<add databaseInstanceName="LOGGING_DB" writeLogStoredProcName="WriteLog"

I have a blank page with a Captcha called Captcha.aspx. I would like to add this as the second step to a CreateUserwizard. The following is what I want to achieve:i) User enters their Username etc in CreateUserwizard and clicks the CreateUser Button(ii) After clicking the CreateUser button, user sees the Captcha.aspx page and enters the correct stuff in the Captcha box and click a continue button(iii) User account is created if correct details were entered in the Captcha else no account is created, rather the user is sent to a page informing him or her that no account has been created

I like to create users without the userwizard.Normally i do this with the userwizard, but i don't have it right now, want to do it with pure code.But how can i add the password to the user?Normally i use this code:
ProfileCommon p = (ProfileCommon)ProfileCommon.Create(CreateUserWizard.UserName, true);
p.Email = ((TextBox)CreateUserWizard.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("Email")).Text;
p.Save();
What is the best, i want just the easy way, like if i add a user with the Asp.Net web administration tool.

I'm using the ASP.NET Membership system to add new users to my site. It's working fine. But I'd like to force the user to enter additional required information (on a different aspx page) before they can successfully complete the registration process. What is the easiest way to direct and force the user to complete a different page of fields (stored in SQL in columns located on the same table as the basic membership fields) as a condition of completing the registration process?
In searching different sites, I see additional properties and templates like Wizard Steps, Continue button, Finish button---but I'm not clear as to which of these (perhaps none of them?) will allow me to accomplish this goal.

I have a createuserwizard where people input their information. When I hit enter after typing in the data in the form it returns me to the homepage. How do I set the default button for the createuserwizard so that it goes to the next step rather then back to my homepage.
I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that I have a defaultbutton set in a form in the masterpage and that defaultbutton overides the other pages defualtbutton....

In a CreateUserWizard there are 2 dropdownlist to set the country and city of a new user. Where and how can those dropdownlists be assigned datasources from datareader, refreshed and accessed in codebehind for interaction between country and city? I tried but keep getting errors saying control not found. Is it impossible to do codebehind events with CreateUserWizard?

1) Extend the CreateUserWizard control to insert additional User fields (eg. Gender, Age, Occupation, Address, Phone, etc...).
OR
2) Create a brand new Custom Membership Provider of my own and skip using the inbuilt ASP.NET membership system.
What is the best way to create a new User system with my own tables of User data as described above?
Should i perhaps still use the standard ASP.NET membership system and then extend my own Registration page to add more User data to my own SQL backend table using the Identity value inserted into the aspnet_users table?
