Security :: How To Add ApplicationName To Existing Website
Mar 25, 2010
I have a (internet) web site with the below web.config (everything works fine). How would I alter this to include an applicationName attribute. I wish to eventually have multiple web sites using the same ASPNETDB database.
How to create ApplicationName and how to choose ApplicationName in C #?
Example:
I have several different applications into the same database. How to choose in combobox Application name" in nato dovolim prijavo. At present this can fix it in web.config, but I would like all done in c #.
I have a custom security module which is retrieving the applicationName of the defalut Membership Provider. I am using this value for convenience only. I mean, sometimes, I will authenticate the user as per "Windows Authentication" where there is no Login Form, and yet, I need to access the "applicationName" of the membership provider. So, in some of my applications, I am not using a memberhsip, and I leave it empty. And I found out that if the <membership> is not defined in web.config, it will default to "AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type "System.web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider".I can add an key in <appSettings>, but I like to using the applicationName of the default membership provider, becuase in other applications I am using Forms Authentication, with a custom membership provider. If try to setup a dummy memberyship provider, I will get error that the connection string is empty. How I can set the "applicationName" property in web.config if I am using "Windows" authentication, and I have no membership provider ?
I have an existing ASP.NET web application that is for public use and any anonymous user can access it. I would like to implement mechanism for users to sign up. The first thought that crossed my mind is to use the ASP.NET membership API.
I have an exiting ASP.NET website that already has user accounts in it. I would now like to simplify logon and considering the use of Janrain. Is this a recommended product? Any alternatives you have used? What do I do with my existing users (I assume I need to extend my membership db to select between them and Janrain tokens)?
As part of a redesign for one of my clients I'd like to move them to DotNetNuke to gain the CMS and blogging features. Their existing site has some custom ecommerce functionality that an off-the-shelf package just can't handle, so I'm inclined to leave it and just re-skin to match the new site.
The challenge is making this all fit together.
I could create two physical web sites in IIS, for example:
www.website.com <-- DNN install
and
shop.website.com <-- Existing ecommerce
This would keep things isolated, but I see a problem with the SSL certificate. It's tied to www.website.com, so now I'd either need two -- one for www. and one for shop. -- or I need a wildcard certificate. Either adds ongoing expenses for the client.
I could try to encapsulate the existing site into a DNN module, but that seems like a lot of work. I could also try doing something tricky with iframes, but again I think this would just further complicate things.
So my application is on a production and running smoothly with no bugs at all. yay! My question: Is there's more efficient way of updating an existing ASP.NET application? Here's what i'm currently doing ( dont laugh that's why im asking xD):
1. I compile the project, 2. after compilation i transfer the compiled files via ftp. then i delete the existing files on my folder and put the newer one.
What are the options available to call another web applications hosted in the same server. Eg: i have a application App1 and App2 hosted on the same server.i just wanted to call App2 from App1 how would i do it.
The most important point is that I can not change the url on the address bar to call the page of the 2nd web application.
Whatever I have achieved so far is I have added a link to my 1st application which redirects to the 2nd application, but it is changing the url on the address bar, I want to redirect to the 2nd application from within the 1st application.
I have one of the .Net site running and want to implement web-parts on that site. well I am not using (aspnet_Users, or aspnet_Membership) defaults tables from aspnetDB but I have my own login controls and create new user contols ect on the site. so in short I have the users uniq ID when logged in from our corporate database nothing similar to aspnetDB.
Hecen want to know can I impelemt webparts in the existing site by just importing the tables from aspnetdb like (aspnet_PersonalizationAllUsers, aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser) to my database and what else I will require apart from these tables?
1. which list of store procedures I should coopy?
2. Any modification to my web.config?
3. Are their any functions/classes which I might have to copy to my App_Code folder to work these webparts with my exisitng site and userdetails
I have a running ASP.NET web site. There is following problem with one of the forms:
One part of submitted data is added to database after "submit" is clicked. (to "table1") Another part is lost (not added to "table2", and no files uploaded) I have no source code of that project. So, because I cant edit existing page, I came to a decision to add new .aspx page to a running application with same functions as existing one. How can I do that? Or maybe you can recommend some other solution.
I would like to truncate my existing website for use with mobile devices specifically the iphone. how might I accomplish this? Are there MS tools or methodolgies for truncating my site without building a new website from scratch?
"How to Integrate a CMS with an existing website". I have a prebuild asp.net website now i want to integrate a CMS thing with the website so that on the production floor, the admin of the website can add, edit, delete web pages according to his will without the involvement of a developer.
I have developed a asp.net website. Now what i want is that it should be multilingual.I don't want a page to be multilingual.I want the whole website to be multilinual.I used the Culture settings as
System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("zh-HK"); System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("zh-HK");
This is the setting i used for the culture but my website didn;t got converted.I searched a lot on google but not able to find any solution. Also the resource files process a bit too hard Please let me know how i can achieve this.Using some free third party tool or some jquery or some javascript code or some asp.net implementations which i can complete quickly.
Im testing something on a MojoPortal where i need to seperately add a Facebook connect button and make the user get registered with the website's registration! How do i do that?
I want to undertand and change an existing website which was written long time back. It cntains a lot of code and I dont know where to start as there is no dicumentation. Is there any way by which i can create a class diagram and sequence diagram of the existing one as I want to incorporate all the existing functionalities in the new one and dont miss out anyone. Only way I know is to debug the current application and go through whole of the code individually. Is there any way out by which I can undertand the current application quickly?
I have a client that currently has a comprehensive php website (with a huge amount of functionality built in).
We have been requested to link into our c#/SQL server application and pull information from the SQL database and display this on the existing website.
I would like to do this as aspx pages. However, I do not want to re-create the complete existing website. I would like to add the aspx functionality onto the current website.
Before my time at the company they paid for a very expensive website written in asp.net and dotnetnuke. Absolutely terrible but there's very little that can be done about that now. They won't give us access to the SQL Server for some bizarre reason but they've given us FTP access.
Is there some way I can install a database manager (like phpMyAdmin) using FTP? I think I've found the username and password but I'm not familiar with asp so it's quite a confusing system.
I understand that MVC can be added to an existing ASP.Net Webforms Web Site Project as explained in this post.
I am wondering if any expert here could tell us what MVC related functions of VS2010 would be missing in this scenario. For example, the very useful shortcuts of "Add View..." and "Go To View" seem to be missing. keep in mind this is about aWeb site project not Web application project so no project file (i.e. .csproj) is involved.
I am having trouble using the "copy web" feature to copy a subweb I created in my development enviornment to my live web siteThe subweb does not currently exist on the live web site. When I launch the copy web application, I get an "open web site" dialog and I point it to my live site. It prompts me to "create new web site" but when I try I am prompted to authenticate but it will not accept my credentials. What is the proper procedure to create a new subweb on an existing website from Web Express 2008?
I have a website which created first by Visual Studio 2005, then I convert in to Visual Studio 2008 and currently using Visual Studio 2008. After Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1, HTML 5 and CSS 3 seem to be available. I want to convert my website to a VS 2010 website which uses HTML5.
How can this be done?
Is it possible to convert it to an ASP.NET Web Application while I'm porting it from VS2008 to Visual Studio 2010 ?
I know how to convert a website to web application in Visual Studio 2008 but I haven't used Visual Studio 2010 and have no idea about the differences.
