So my application is on a production and running smoothly with no bugs at all. yay! My question: Is there's more efficient way of updating an existing ASP.NET application? Here's what i'm currently doing ( dont laugh that's why im asking xD):
1. I compile the project,
2. after compilation i transfer the compiled files via ftp. then i delete the existing files on my folder and put the newer one.
I have on my page a fileUpload control. -
<asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" />
and a save button.
When I browse and pick a file and press save the code works fine. However if I manually type rubbish into the fileupload and press save nothing happens.How can I get the save button to work so that I can check what is in the fileupload is a proper and existing file?

View 4 RepliesCan you point me to a url for the proper directory structure to create for a new website?I can create a website project and add class library projects to the solution to create a fully functional website.My grey area is that I need to zip up the web site solution and hand it over to the client.I'd like to make sure that I hand over a solution with the most proper directory structure.I'll run you through a scenario:
1. Select File > New > Web Site > ASP.NET Web Site from the main menu
2. Save with a path of C:ProjectsTestWebSite
3. Right-click the solution in VS and select Add > New Project > Class Library
4. The new class library is added with an automatic path of C:ProjectsTestWebSite (2)MyClassLib1
It seems like there should be a way to create a better structure for this but I'm just not following the correct process. Can you point me to a url with instructions for managing a proper structure for this?
What is the correct procedure to create an n-tier Website in ASP.NET? Can this be done without setting up a server farm, and how would you be able to test it?

The resut is always some "Chinese character garbage", and the generated extension is always .cs (whatever the given outputextension may be)Generating text files works fine in class libraries, MVC websites and other "projects".Just not in plain websites. Is this a known issue, am I forgetting some swith or doing something wrong, can or can I not fix this?UPDATE: It seems to be a problem with the Tangible T4 Editor, after uninstalling this tool, it seems to work fine. However, I've lost syntax highlighting and intellisense then.Since this is an external tool, I don't think this forum covers that scope.

But when I try to add this MDF file in SQL Server 2005 Express, I click the Add button but cannot find this exact path above. How do I find this? I am running this on a 32-bit XP OS.
I would like get some hints reagding my application. Acctually I have a text file which is on Server and updated daily. After I parsed my text file, I would like to update my database according to the text file's data. I am using gridview with update panel Animation extender for updating effects. Everything is working fine but when page expires(means session ends) and I try to uupdate(edit,delete record) it fadeout the grid but donot fadein and shows following javascript error as image. I want if session ends it should redirect to login instead of fading out and showing javascript error message
View 5 Repliesarticle on binding to a list and I've got that working fine on one view. But what I'm stuck when doing it off a master record. Everything seems to work except that when I look in the database the detail records previous associated with the current master have their Foriegn key to master set to Null and a new set of detail records have been inserted. I've got a really simple form for this object

And the Controller.UpdateModel(master) binds all the properties correctly. But when I call dbContext.SaveChanges it issues the follow sql from sql profiler (psuedo code)

I've got a work around that works but it's pretty hackish and I'm currently not matching up the keys so it's dependent on everything coming back in the right order. Plus I've got to include all the fields that I want updated.

I thought that entity framework's code first was the culprite but I've unit test that and it works fine. I've got a feeling that UpdateModel is somehow removing and re-adding the children. Has anyone else got this to work? Of course, I could throw in the towel and parse the indexed field names myself, but I'm so close!

I have an exiting ASP.NET website that already has user accounts in it. I would now like to simplify logon and considering the use of Janrain. Is this a recommended product? Any alternatives you have used? What do I do with my existing users (I assume I need to extend my membership db to select between them and Janrain tokens)?
View 3 RepliesAs part of a redesign for one of my clients I'd like to move them to DotNetNuke to gain the CMS and blogging features. Their existing site has some custom ecommerce functionality that an off-the-shelf package just can't handle, so I'm inclined to leave it and just re-skin to match the new site.
The challenge is making this all fit together.
I could create two physical web sites in IIS, for example:
www.website.com <-- DNN install
and
shop.website.com <-- Existing ecommerce
This would keep things isolated, but I see a problem with the SSL certificate. It's tied to www.website.com, so now I'd either need two -- one for www. and one for shop. -- or I need a wildcard certificate. Either adds ongoing expenses for the client.
I could try to encapsulate the existing site into a DNN module, but that seems like a lot of work. I could also try doing something tricky with iframes, but again I think this would just further complicate things.
What are the options available to call another web applications hosted in the same server. Eg: i have a application App1 and App2 hosted on the same server.i just wanted to call App2 from App1 how would i do it.
The most important point is that I can not change the url on the address bar to call the page of the 2nd web application.
Whatever I have achieved so far is I have added a link to my 1st application which redirects to the 2nd application, but it is changing the url on the address bar, I want to redirect to the 2nd application from within the 1st application.
I have one of the .Net site running and want to implement web-parts on that site. well I am not using (aspnet_Users, or aspnet_Membership) defaults tables from aspnetDB but I have my own login controls and create new user contols ect on the site. so in short I have the users uniq ID when logged in from our corporate database nothing similar to aspnetDB.
Hecen want to know can I impelemt webparts in the existing site by just importing the tables from aspnetdb like (aspnet_PersonalizationAllUsers, aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser) to my database and what else I will require apart from these tables?
1. which list of store procedures I should coopy?
2. Any modification to my web.config?
3. Are their any functions/classes which I might have to copy to my App_Code folder to work these webparts with my exisitng site and userdetails

I have a running ASP.NET web site. There is following problem with one of the forms:
One part of submitted data is added to database after "submit" is clicked. (to "table1") Another part is lost (not added to "table2", and no files uploaded) I have no source code of that project. So, because I cant edit existing page, I came to a decision to add new .aspx page to a running application with same functions as existing one. How can I do that? Or maybe you can recommend some other solution.
I would like to truncate my existing website for use with mobile devices specifically the iphone. how might I accomplish this? Are there MS tools or methodolgies for truncating my site without building a new website from scratch?
