One customer set up an IIS 7 on a Windows 2008 machine. Forms Authentication works fine on my local IIS 6.0 and also on a shared server I used for testing. On the new machine there is no way no access the password protected area despite a succesful login.
Is there any settings I should ask my customer to check out on the server ? Or is there something different for IIS 7 I should see in my web.config ?
I'm trying to get an asp.net application up on IIS on a Windows Server 2008 machine. I can hit the app from localhost, no problem. But I can't access the app using the server's domain name either locally or from another machine on the network.But here's the odd part. I can access a normal file on IIS using the domain name, both from a browser running on the server and from a browser running on another machine on the network. Here's a synopsis ("http" converted to "htp" below because I don't have enough points to have all these links in my message):

Installed SQL Server Express 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I cannot get the server agent or the browser to start. The start is grayed out. How do I need to configure SQL Server so I can get these running?

When i access this service when running my asp.net website through code everything works fine how ever when i deploy the application on the local IIS , in the deployed mode i am getting an securityaccessdeined exception. We have a working version of application (Intranet) with uses Windows Authentication deployed in Windows 2003. The application uses HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name to get the logged-in user. I just downloaded and installled the Microsoft Windows Azure SDK yesterday for the first time and I am having issues running the application as I all I am getting is 503 errors. I run Windows Server 2008 R2 on my development machine and even tested it on another co-workers 2008 R2 and couldn't even compile the application. He got this error instead "A problem occurred while trying to set the "References" parameter for the IDE's in-process compiler. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component."
From within my Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Virtual Windows 7 x86 enviroment, I was able to successfully build and run the Windows Azure SDK and it even showed the base ASP.NET application.So my question is, does the Windows Azure SDK for Visual Studio 2010 w/ Visual Studio 2010 SP 1 installed not work under Microsoft Server 2008 R2?

I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!

How can i enable the windows service subscribe/listen to events raised by the asp.net app on the remote machine? What methods can i use?n example of events that can be raised on the asp.net app is a user uploading a file. Once the upload has completed the windows service should be notified so it can do some work. It seems that there needs to be a layer in between asp.net and windows service, possibly another windows service or WCF app? Or plain old polling through a shared database containing the state?
View 1 RepliesIn my ASP.NET application, I need to be able to authenticate/authorise against local Windows users/groups (ie. not Active Directory) on a different machine, as well as be able to change the passwords of said remote local Windows accounts.
Yes, I know Active Directory is built for this sort of thing, but unfortunately the higher ups have decreed it needs to be done this way (so authentication against users in a database is out as well).
I've tried using DirectoryEntry and WinNT like so:

but this results in an exception when you try to log in more than one user:

I've tried making sure my DirectoryEntries are used inside a using block, so they're disposed properly, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. Plus, even if that did work it is possible that two users could hit that line of code concurrently and therefore try to create multiple connections, so it would be fragile anyway.
Is there a better way to authenticate against local Windows accounts on a remote machine, authorise against their groups, and change their passwords?
I have just ported my VS2008 development environment to a new computer running Windows 7. One roadblock I'm having is that when I edit machine.config in VS2008, I cannot save it back to its location - I get an error saying Access Denied. I am logged in as Administrator and have tried to set myself up as owner but the crazy security rules in Windows 7 are frustrating this operation. (I could do this on my previous system - VS2008 running XP.) I set the Administrators permissions to Full Control and made this file's owner Administrators (vs the previous SYSTEM)

I am using ShDocVW.InternetExplorer class to spawn a new internet explorer object and to do some form filling stuffs(for some sharepoint works).It works fine in my own machine which has Windows 7 as the OS. But when I deployed the same thing in windows server 2003 machine, it does not pop up the internet explorer window. When I check the Task Manager, I could see a new iexplore process, but with Session ID = 0 (but session ID = 1 in windows 7). So, I see this is something regarding IIS Session isolation.So, is it possible to assign a ShDocVW.InternetExplorer instance to kind of a new System.Diagnostics.Process and achieve this task? Or can we start a new ShDocVW.InternetExplorer instance with session ID = 1?
