I am simply create a form that accept some user details and insert some details into membership table and rest of other table.
Membership.CreateUser(username,password,email)
Roles.AddUserToRole(username,"user");
this will insert the details into the aspnet_users table and user is not assigned to any role and no membership record insert. Please give me some ideas how to do this.
I am in the process of creating my database and I have the pending question of whether I should add a UserID using INT to the membership table. I am not replacing the UserID that is a UniqueIdentifier I am just adding a UserID with INT.
The reason I want to do this is because I have about twelve other tables that uses the UserID column. It will be easy for users to insert data into the other tables and I foresee the tables getting to be millions of rows, by using an UserID INT it will avoid the mass amount of storage from the UniqueIdentifier column.
Now my question is what are my repurcussions of doing this? I've already found out one, and I believe it is my biggest question, if I were to create an insert command in .net how would I grab the UserID INT rather then the UserID UniqueIdentifier to insert it into my tables? For example, I can get the userid this way:
Membership.GetUser("username").ProviderUserKey.ToString();

I want to create a site where users can create a very basic profile, with fields like full name, City, Age and Gender, and I want the data for every new member that signs up to go into a simple Table in my sql data base. reason being I want members to be able to view other members info in a table. I am familiar with the "CreateUserWizard", but that only allows me to work with certain predefined info (email, user id, etc). If I just anually add new columns to the table in which user ID and such is saved to, and customize the CreateUserWizard controller to have text boxes for the additional data that I want (i.e. city), will the CreateUserWizard know to save that additional data in the table?
Also, I know I can add fields to the <profile> tag in the web.config files, but I dont know where that gets stored. I want all the info for the user to be stored in one table in a sql data base so that I can easily access it with a quary. I dont see where the profile properties get stored, and how it can be linked to a User ID. by the way I noticed in other posts, there was a mention of a membership provider. I noticed that although I've added some "Login" controlls (i.e. login and CreateUserWizard), no membership provider has been added to my web.config file. Do I need to do this manually? or is there a menu item that adds it for me?

View 2 RepliesI have now been trying for many days to get Membership on my website working but cannot. My aspnet db is a web sqlserver 2008 db.
My issues are
1). The MembersPages are still accessible by unauthenicated users in the deployed site. Using the local development server hyperlinking to a MemberPage does infact re-direct the user to the login page and the return url shown is the correct MemberPage selected. But on the deployed site clicking the hyperlink simply takes the un-authenticated user straight to the MemberPage.
2). On both sites, deployed and local, on clicking a login status control, the user is taken to the login page and is correctly authenticated, but the login page return url is always the default page and that is where the authenticated user is returned to even though the destination url in the login control states a MemberPage within the MembersPages directory.
3). In trying to overcome these issues, I have on several occasions deleted the login control and re-introduced it. Although the login control shows while debugging and when the site is deployed, on the login page in the IDA, there is instead an error message stating "Error Creating Control - Login1. Duplicate Component name 'Login1'. Component names must be unique and case sensitive. I'm not sure how to get rid off the duplication.

I tried creating a login page as ASP.NET web application. Then as we have to configure the page to connect to the database to retrieve user details, i clicked on the ASP.NET configuration under Website control.. I was taken to the configuration page with three tabs.. Security was the tab that i was supposed to configure.. But i am not able to go through to the security tab. I get the following error message.
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database."
I'm trying to do a bulk insert of data into the aspnet_Membership table. I have existing records from a previous version of the system I am re-building in asp.net. I've been researching and asking questions, but I am still missing something. What is the best way to do this? I believe I need to grab my previous table and iterate over each record and insert into the new membership table via the Membership.CreateUser method. So far I have been unable to make it work. My code so far in the on click event of a button is below.

This line (usrInfo! = null) works, but I have a database table "confirm". If I change in the Admin to "true", the user successfully logged on. If the base table "confirm" set to "false", the user will not be logged.
The following code works if (null! = & usrInfo & usrInfo. IsApproved), but instead of ' IsApproved ', I want to use table "confirm".

View 2 RepliesWhen creating a foreign key to the membership user table, is it better to refer to the user_id column or is it ok to use the username column? I assume that the Membership spec enforces uniqueness in the username since there is a method Membership.GetUser(username) that returns one user. Using the id is a bit awkward in code because I have to end up casting all over the place like (int)user.ProviderUserKey. The username would give more information quickly when viewing raw data as well. Just wondering if someone knows a reason why I shouldn't use it as the foreign key.

However I need to associate users with customers (in a Customers table in the database) and display content according to the customer that the user belongs to. Is the best way of doing this to create a foreign key field in the aspnet_Users table relating back to Customers table which would have to be updated manually after creating the user or is there a better way?

I am wondering what's the easiest way to go about doing this. I am using the user signup form control that comes with .net and they can create user through the application and once they do users see the "members area" of my site.
However, they are only trial members. using my paypal form, once they pay for service, they become a paid member.. so I want to keep track of this in the membership table by having a column in that table: bit registeredUser. Do I have to create my own overriden membership class for this, at first I thought there was already a column like this called isApproved, but seems thats for something else because if its set to false user cannot even login.
There seems to be something wrong with the create user wizard?I am using hashed password storage. When I change it to clear storage I see the user's password is being stored as something completly different than what they typed in.Example: changeme1 now equates to something like: 4W*KQQ4%=SIf I use 4W*KQQ4%=S as the password to login with it works but changeme1 does not.When I use the reset password wizard it updates the password just fine and it works when I login next.Any clues what could be causing this?

Is it OK to delete the member from the aspnet_membership table and roles related tables using Membership.DeleteUser, though keep all the custom tables and the information including the information in the Users table created by the TableProfileProvider? or can you foresee problems?

If I just have ADProvider1 it works, when I add ADProvider2, even though for testing I only use ADProvider1 I get an error: "Unable to establish secure connection with the server" Am I adding the second provider to the membership section incorrectly?
