Security :: Using IsOnline Property?
Feb 2, 2010
it relates with isOnline. I have searched every post in this forum to know how to deal with isOnline but I still stuck. Let's go to the main problem. I log in into the account, so the isOnline will be true. That's perfect. Set the userIsOnlineTimeWindow by default (15 mins). Then I log out. Base on MSDN, the isOnline is calculated by current time - userIsOnlineTimeWindow which is earlier LastActivityDate. Let say I log in at 2:30:00, wait until 2:35:00 to log out, so current time is 2:35:00, and then subtract 15, we get 2:20:00. The result is earlier than LastActivityDate which is 2:35:00, but why the isOnline still true?

I have been playing a bit with ASP.NET MVC 2 using VWD 2010.After a bit of struggling with profiles(thank you MS for putting 2 web.config files in the solution...) I decided that after all I like this technology. I always thought that dotNET would be great for server side stuff and I've been proven right.Anyhow, I'm gonna start a real project now and I want to do something weird(yes, I know, I shouldn't be wanting to do weird things, but it's just beyond me :-) ): say I have a company website with roles and a forum.When I click on the nickname of a user, I want to bring his/her profile up - just like you would be doing with any decent forum out there. Well, my final idea is a tad more interesting in this regard, but let's stick it at that: click and see profile page.Problem is, I want this profile to be different for company employees and users.
I want some general informations such as first and last name, date of birth, photo, etc and then for instance I do not want to show the address property for company users. Yes I know I might want to put the company address there or leave it at all blank and I would rather not display it at all.From what I gather about profiles, this is possible only using views and checking for the roles, doing something like:
if User.Role == Company
{
// Stuff here
[code]...

I have been struggling to save custom property data into member using createuserwizard. I add some extra fields into createuserwizard using wizardsteps and What I would like to accomplish is to save extra data of that fields and see that data on admin backend of member section of umbraco cms.
What I have done so far in brief:
Created a user control using asp.net createuserwizard and save it to umbraco.
I also added a macro into usercontrol which pulls its data from dropdown list multiple render control data type which has some prevalues.
After selecting values and creating user, none of the selected values of dropdown list multiple render control data type are selected on admin backend but address are successfully saved.
Code behind file:Roles.AddUserToRole(UserName.Text, "BasicUsers");var profile = System.Web.Profile.ProfileBase.Create(UserName.Text);profile["sector"] = Sector.SelectedItem.Value;profile["address"] = Address.Text;profile.Save();
That relevant code snippet above works well like profile["address"] = Address.Text; but I am unable to save with other renders controls as Dropdown list multiple.

When I first implemented the control, I had it redirect to the default.aspx page.Now I want it to redirect to customer.aspxIt still redirects to default.aspx even after clearing browser cache and pressing <CTRL><F5> to refresh the page after updating and saving the page in Visual StudioIt did work successfully one time after I cleared the browser cache and retarted the browser; however, after I logged out and tried to log back in I was once again redirected to the default.aspx page! :(

Is it possible to allow an administrator to write to a readonly profile property by redefining the profile property in a web.config file used for administrators pages?
I have a unique account number which must be assigned to each new user (using the default asp.net membership provider). After reading a couple of articles it seemed it would just be easier to define it as a profile property instead of creating a custom membership provider. When the user makes changes to their profile on a profile page I create, I want the value to be readonly. When an admin views the profile I actually want them to assign the value to the property in their page.

So what I'm trying to accomplish is this
[Code]....
The user control has public properties named accordingly and the page has protected properties accordingly which I've verified have the desired values.
For some reason the values are always empty strings or 0s in the usercontrol, no matter what the page property is.

Can anyone add a complete input about how to create Parent Property with multiple child properties or in short nested properties.
Example: Style tag: which has properties like font, color, display... etc? which accept objects and its value.
[code]....
As soon as Rainbow property is typed, user should get intellisense for list of number of colors. Then accordingly user can select list of those colors and assign a value to them.

Is there any difference between accessing a property that has a backing field
private int _id;
public int Id
{
get { return _id; }
set { _id = value; }
}
versus an auto-property?
public int Id { get; set; }
The reason I'm asking is that when letting ReSharper convert a property into an auto property it seems to scan my entire solution, or at least all aspx-files.
I can't see any reason why there should be any difference between the two from outside the class. Is there?

In the Web.Config we have a timeout property. Ex:
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" timeout="2880"/>
</authentication>
When loggin in, we can specify a ticket expiry date. Ex:
FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(
1, id.ToString(), DateTime.Now, expiryDate, true,
securityToken, FormsAuthentication.FormsCookiePath);
Why there's two places where I can set expiration info about forms-authentication? What's the difference between them? What has more relevance?

I have a masterpage that contains all the javascript and inside the content control, there is a link that calls a javascript function and I want to pass the id once it's rendered differently by the server.
<asp:TextBox ID="txtstart" runat="server" Width="20%"></asp:TextBox>
<a title="Pick Date from Calendar" onclick="calendarPicker('<% txtstart.ClientId %>');" href="javascript:void(0);">
However, I keep getting this error:
Property access must assign to the property or use its value.
How would I be able to accomplish this?

I'm being stupid but don't know what I'm missing.I want to use asp.net profile and have a profile property.So in the webconfig for my site I've added:
<profile>
<properties>
<add name="Name"/>
</properties>
</profile>
But in the code behind a page I cannot use Profile.Visual Studio is just saying the Profile is not known in the current context.Thus I cannot do
Profile.Name = ....
or
x = Profile.GetPropertyValue(....)
