I would like to develop a server push supported application. Can anybody suggest which technology i should concentrate it reach this. I have already written a WCF Service using WS Binding. do i have to use JQuery? Commet? I have tried silverlight but it does support only polling. I am not looking for polling mechanism.

I have two webservers in a cluster serving a web application. Using MS Web Deploy to push a new version of the application to one server, and then again to synchronize the files to the other server in the cluster. It seems to be the most ordinary thing to do. But wouldn't there be a problemm, when one server is deployed with the new version, and the other is not yet finished. Will it not cause troubles, when a page loaded with the new version makes a webservice request and the balancer sends the request to the server with the old version?
What's the best way to avoid this? I thought about scripting a drainstop of the server, that we deploy to, and make sure only one server is running at a time. But I can't find anyone else, who seems to have written about such a solution. And guess that it doesn't scale very well too. Another solution could be to shut down all servers when updating. But that doesn't seems very clever.

Visual Studio 2008 Professional (.NET 3.5) and SQL Server 2000.Now I have it work perfectly on my local machine. Now when i upload my website on my Windows 2003 Server, I get an error saying
"Type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Parameter' does not have a public property named 'DbType'".
It alse gives me error when there exist a Date in the Page Designer but that's fine when I use DateTime. I think this might be an issue since DateTime no longer is supported in SQL Server 2005.
Now to resolve this issue on my server thus far I simply rename them to Type and DateTime and all is well. But On Changing and editing locally and then uploading again, I need to redo that.
My web app, Web.Config file is larger than 250 kb. To resolve this problem, before on windows server 2008 iis 7.0 32bit, i have created a key with regedit in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInetStpConfigurationMaxWebConfigFileSizeInKB, and this work perfectly.
Now on windows server 2008 R2 64bit, this key is not more supported, it's my idea.....
What is the solution ? I can't split my web.config.....
How to bypass this security restriction by default ?

View 3 RepliesI have never created my own solution before now. I have always modified existing solutions and know how to do it. For some reason, this new solution isn't connecting to my SQL server correctly.
I am using VWD 2008 Express Edition.
I have MSSQL 2008 Developer Edition.
I have used aspnet_regsql.exe to create the tables in my SQL DB.
I have added the following to my webconfig:

But for some reason, when I try to use the Web Site Administration Tool it thinks it is not setup.
What am I missing?
I am using sql server fulll edition.any idea how should I solve this issue, I search on net but not found any helpful answer.
View 4 RepliesI am developing a web application and need to continue development while travelling. I have SQL Server express installed on my desktop and my laptop but (obviously) the server names differ on each machine. eg "MydesktopSQLSERVEREXPRESS" and "MyLaptopSQLSERVEREXPRESS".
Anyone know of a way I can use a generic connection string or something so I can simply transfer the solution file from my desktop to my laptop and continue development on the road?
the account we use to copy/publish websites to our web server is not allowing us access to push websites. I've added this account to the permissions in the links listed in the below link, but i don't have success when trying to push remotely. View 2 RepliesMy friend and I want to write a Facebook application. We've narrowed down the list of possible technologies to Ruby on Rails and C# with ASP. Here are the pros and cons we've thought of.
Cons:
ASP - proprietary tools like Visual Studio etc. cost (lots of) money. We both don't know ASP (although we're not bad at C#).
RoR - It's scripting so might be harder to maintain. My friend doesn't know RoR at all (but he's a fairly proficient programmer so will probably be able to pick it up quickly).
Pros:
ASP - Facebook has an official SDK for .NET.
RoR - I know RoR. It's open source, free and has fast development time.
What says the community? Is there something we haven't thought of?
If I install visual studio 2005 service pack 1 on my local develop machine (I already have vs2005 but without servicepack)

I want to Access remote server( ie., want to access online server not local server) in my Application.. I change Settings in SQL surface Area Configuration---> Remote Connection ( checked the Local and Remote Connection ) Then while running the application it showing the following error.(I make off the firewall also) An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
