I want the cursor to appear on the first text box in my screen when user goes to the site I have coded this but no cursor is placed in textbox

I'd like to be able to set the focus to this textbox when the page is loaded. Is there a really easy way to do this? I have to admit that so far I haven't found it. I know that I can do this using something like this JQuery/Javascript code: $('#UserName').focus();
However, I don't like the fact that the model field name 'UserName' has to be expressed as a string constant again here - it smells of a maintenance problem. I'd really like to be able to reference the model field directly if possible. Somethiing like this: $('#' + '<%:Html.ModelFieldNameFor(m => m.UserName)%>').focus();
I am not sure how to explain my current issue. Right now I have a Form that spans a couple of pages. I have divided the Form into multiple section as well including a File Upload section, a File Download section, and have an 'Update' button at the bottom of the Form. I also have Error labels within each section, and have an Error label at the bottom of the Form under the 'Update' button.The problem that I am experiencing right now is that when I produce one of these errors, the Form automatically displays the very top of the page. So in other words, if the error message is displayed at the bottom of the Form, the user has no idea unless they scroll all the way down.Is there anyway to keep the application focus at the area where the button is clicked on? This way if the user produces an error, they will see it right away.

I have tried to do this a couple of ways but none seem to be working. The page is loading but not going to the control.

I have been browing forums & googling for a couple of hours this morning, trying to find an answer to what (to me) should be a very simple issue. (I am a Delphi programmer moving somewhat reluctantly to Visual Studio C# , for web apps) I have created the simplest ASP.NET website in Visual Studio, containing a Textbox and a Button. When the website loads, I want Textbox1 to have focus. Simply doing

and this too does not work. However, if I press the Enter key when the webpage is displayed, then focus does move to TextBox1 (and pressing Enter again will fire any code attached to Button1). Surely it cannot be this hard to perform something so simple?
I used Ajax collapsible extenders (1 to 9) with formviews in each of them on a web form.
They are all collapsed by default. If the user enters data in collapsible 5 formview and submits data, the page refreshes back to the top of the page (where the collapsible 1 is positioned). I would like the focus to stay in the region the user is working (even after insert/submit operations). How can I do this.

How do you use the http POST method with a Grid View on another page. I am trying to use the POST method to send the ID from the selected row of a Grid View, I am using a link button set to fire the select command and it has the Post Back URL set, from one page and then retrieve the ID value on another page using an Object Data Source. I am giving the user the possibility to add/edit text on the page using Text-Box control.
My goal is to let the user add Url link into the page. Example:
The user enter the word "[[About us]]" and the system needs to translate it into

In the view i am using encoding: Html.Encode(Model.Page.Description).
I can write in the controller a method that will send to the view the correct syntax.
But the view encode all information therefore it's not working.
How sould i inject html code into existing text and load it into the view correctly ?
I am hiding a TextBoxin my aspx page like this: myField.visible=false; Now I have a DropDown as well which tries to access the TextBox on IndexChange. The problem is, it cant access the hiffen TextBox and I am getting document.form[0] is Null or Not an Object. How can I solve that? Is the some check for that in JavaScript?

I'm writing a simple web site using codebehind for each page, however using the "codefile" directive, not "codebehind" as such, because I'm not precompiling. I'm just using a text editor to edit the aspx and codebehind files. Problem is, every time I make a change to the code or the aspx file, and refresh the page in the browser, it takes a 2 or 3 seconds to come up the first time, like it's doing an on-demand initial compile. I assume that's what it's doing, as after the initial load, the page refreshes without any delay at all.
This behaviour is quite frustrating when making small changes to the html or code. I'm coming from classic ASP, where you could edit-refresh-edit-refresh etc. all day without your "stride" being broken by waiting for a "compile", you know? So I'd love to know if there's a setting which prevents this initial delay. When I want to deploy, I can do a compile or something, but while making lots of small edits, I just need the page to run without that initial delay.
I have an application where different users can log in via a single portal login. When they log
in, if they belong to more than 1 company they have to select the company they belong to. The theme will change if there is a custom theme for that company. Each page my application has inherits a "CustomPage" class. Here is the code for the custom page:

When the customer belongs to more than 1 company, and they select the company they belong to, the theme loads just fine. So, the problem I am having is this: If they belong to just 1 company, the company is automatically selected but the theme does not load right away. However, if I refresh the page, the theme loads just fine. Even the default theme will not load. The page has no css at all until I refresh.
I even view source and look for my css names and they are not there. I refresh and do the same thing, and they are there. I am not using forms authentication and the default theme in the web config is "Default"

The dropdownlist does get populated appropriately, however when I attempt to set the value, it doesn't reflect when the page loads; the dropdownlist just gets populated and no value is set to selected in the markup, so the first value is shown by default. The odd thing is that when I'm debugging, the value appears to get set when I step through the function, it's as if the selectedvalue is getting reset as soon as the function exits and proceeds to load the page.
SOLUTION: Had to add a separate function that is called onLoad from the DropDownList after the after Page_Load is done executing. Still unresolved is why the the DropDownList rebinds after the Page_Load.

I've stumbled across a strange problem with the AsyncFileUpload control: if the control doesn't exist on the initial load, the UploadedComplete event does not fire. For example, the following code works just fine:

But as soon as the code is wrapped in an if (IsPostBack) condition as shown below, FileUploaded no longer fires, even though the code is otherwise identical:

Would anyone be able to shed some light on why this is happening?
