Trying To View Jpg In GridView But Encountering Errors
Feb 2, 2010
I tried to follow the example here: [URL] I pointed my .aspx page to Northwind > Employees, because that table already has a field for pictures, and a few data points, so I thought it would make sense to use that. I followed the instructions and set my DataImageUrlField to ProfilePicture. I'm not sure where the images go, or even where 'ProfilePicture' goes, so I created a new folder in my project and named the folder 'ProfilePicture' and put the pictures in there. So, now I have this kind of setup: C:Documents and SettingsThinkPadDesktopWebSite1Profile_Pictureimage1.jpg
Then I loaded the page and all data loads into the DatGrid fine, except for the images. So I copy/paste the code into 'Default.aspx.vb' and I debug and get this error: Compilation Error Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately. Compiler Error Message: ASPNET: Make sure that the class defined in this code file matches the 'inherits' attribute, and that it extends the correct base class (e.g. Page or UserControl)............

I'm being tasked with making changes to an asp.net application and really have no experience working with them other than dabbling in VWD.I was given a zip file of the directory containing the files. It was developed in VWD 2005. . My question is a general one: Are there steps I need to take (regenerate web.config file? change settings of some sort?) in order to get started? The application is functional on the web server.

Curious what the best practice is for returning errors to a view from a controller where the error isn't really a validation error, but more like "user not found" or "service timeout" type of errors. (in ASP.NET MVC2 framework)
I've been adding them to the ModelState's model errors, but that doesn't seem appropriate. (although easy to implement and maintain)
Example - A user tries to log in, and their credentials do not match a known user.

This problem is trivial to duplicate. Do any query on a table which contains a timestamp / rowversion column. Set a breakpoint and examine the resulting query in the Linq to SQL visualizer. Click on Execute which displays the results in a DataGridView. For each row you get "System Argument Exception: Parameter is not valid" when it tries to display the timestamp / rowversion in the grid. What is most annoying is that there is no way to get out of the visualizer without going to Task Manager and killing the Visual Studio process, devenv.exe.
This is definitely a bug. How can you presume to be able to display a database query when you can't display an essential datatype like timestamp / rowversion? Is there any way around this ? I would like to add that in general the CLR is woefully inadequate in the way it handles timestamp / rowversion fields. It would be nice if they could be defined, copied, compared, displayed and serialized in some standardized automatic way.

I have a CLR 4 WCF service hosted in IIS 7.5 (Windows Server 2008 R2), using the WebHttp binding (with [WebGet]). The service calls into an unmanaged component implemented in C++ (Visual Studio 2010). I deliberately added an access violation inside the unmanaged component (by calling delete on a pointer repeatedly, calling methods through a deleted pointer, etc.) to test dump file generation settings. The access violation crashes the w3wp.exe process, which is not surprising considering "Corrupted State Exceptions" in CLR 4. However, when the process restarts (due to warmup and always-on settings in IIS), the same request seems to be replayed to the service so that it crashes the w3wp.exe process again. After a few times (governed by the "max failures" application pool setting) the application pool is stopped.
I'm using the browser as the test client, and while the restart sequence is underway the request is still in flight. When the application pool is stopped, the request returns with 503 Service Unavailable. I can work around the problem by placing try...catch block around the code and using the [HandleProcessCorruptedStateExceptions] attribute. When I do that, the w3wp.exe process does not crash. However, this is not the desired behavior -- I want the process to crash (an access violation or a memory corruption is bad enough) but I want it to restart into a clean state and not have the request replayed. I was not able to reproduce the problem using the BasicHttp binding.

I have a C# web forms ASP.NET 4.0 web application that uses Routing for URLs for some reason custom errors defined in the system.web section of my web.config is entirely ignored and it will fall back the IIS errors.
This gets entirely ignored
[code]....
This would be a minor inconvenience except that by the fact it falls back to IIS native instead of my application it completely circumvents Elmah logging my 404 exceptions correctly.

I have an ASP.NET Web Site hosted in the _layouts folder of a SP2010 site. One of the pages contains a server-side form and works fine until I try to set its master page to a Sharepoint master page (specifically a modified v4.master) to achieve a consistent look & feel. I've placed my original page content within <asp:content> tags but it now throws an "A page can have only one server-side Form tag" error. I know that ASP.NET pages can only contain a single server-side form but what walkarounds can I use to stop Sharepoint from throwing this error?

When I build my program, if there's one error that prevents it from running, instead of just getting the one error I'll get around 50 additional errors in addition to the real one such as:
Error 27 Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): This name contains uppercase characters, which is not allowed.
Is there any way to not show these?

My question is why do we need to Bind() Gridview on evrytime we click on Paging.
If Gridview has a view state then the paging should work from View State then why do we do something like the following on Page Change Indexing. Why do we have to call the database ?...
Gidview1.Datasource = DatabaseCall();
Gridview1.DataBind();

I am working on ASP.Net and now i want to show the records of employee. For this purpose i used gridview1 to show all the records, but the view of gridview is larger than the pageview, and some records are hidden in the right navigation bar. Now, what should i do to show all the records without any column hidden in the navigation bar and that looks like pretty better also.
