Update A User Control Public Property On Linkbutton Click?

Feb 4, 2011

I have created a very simple calendar user control that contains a public property which is used to define which month/year to display. My calendar control is placed inside another ascx control (the wrapper control essentially), which includes LinkButton controls used to toggle the calendar control forward and backward one month at a time.

If I explicitly define the SelectedDateTime property of the calendar control in the wrapper control at design time, the proper month/year are displayed by the calendar control. However, when I try to set the property value at run time using a Click event on the previous and next LinkButton controls, the calendar control never picks up the new SelectedDateTime value I try to assign to it.

When I run the code in debug mode, the Click event of the LinkButton always happens last - after the value of the SelectedDateTime property of the calendar control has already been set to default and rendered. What am I missing?

The calendar control is placed in the wrapper control just like any old control:

I have a LinkButton within a User Control and it has handled with:

Private Sub LoginLinkLinkButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LoginLinkLinkButton.Click
Response.Redirect("/", True)
End Sub

On certain ASPX pages I would like to handle the click from the page's code behind, opposed to within the user control. How do I override the handle within the control from the parent's code behind page?

Based on the answer, I have the following no added to the User Control:

The problem is determining the correct syntax for the if line because the above is invalid.

State Management :: Update User Control Property On Postback?

Mar 31, 2011

I have created a user control with a property named CurrentPage. When a link button is clicked it runs PostbackToPage() and passes a command argument in which then sets the CurrentPage property with this new value. On the page which uses the user control I am trying to display the updated CurrentPage property after a postback. When I click the link button to cause the postback the CurrentPage is the default value. However when I click it again it works as expected. So it seems to only work after 2 postbacks. How can I get this to work after the first postback?

AJAX :: Showing A Control On Click Of Linkbutton Column Of Gridview (present Inside UpdatePanel)

Jan 8, 2010

I have put my gridView inside an UpdatePanel with Timer control for auto refresh.The gridView has a linkButton column which is bounded to referenceNo column from database.

On click of this link button i want a panel to get visible. This Panel contains details corresponding to the referenceNo shown in differnt controls (mostly texboxes). Do i necessarily need to put the panel inside the Update Panel.If not how do i do it?

I have tried putting panel outside UpdatePanel, but it doesn't show panel on clicking the linkbutton nor does the values are updated inside this panel (if panel's visibility is set to true by default for testing purpose).

Web Forms :: Getting Linkbutton Text Value From Link Button In User Control?

Nov 9, 2010

i have a link button thats text value is populated from a dataset value retrieved from a database. When the user clicks on this link button I want to somehow capture the text value. The trick is the linkbutton is within a usercontrol, and I want to do the processing from the user controls parent. I am able to get the ID of the clicked linkbutton with the use of Request.Form["__EVENTTARGET"];, however i need the text value, in this case its a job number.

I may be able to do this via javascript with the OnClientClick;

OnClientClick='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"JobNo","test({0})")%>'

When I do this I get a javascript error saying "M10725"(which is my job number being clicked) is ndefined. I dont know what this means. Do I somehow have to give the linkbutton being click a value?

Web Forms :: OnClick Event Is Not Firing For LinkButton And User Control Is Disappearing

Dec 30, 2010

I am using the following code to load user control on to ASPX Page, which under a Master Page:

The user control name is passed as a parameter on the URL.

Inside the user, there is a LinkButton. The link button has a simple server side code for OnClick event.

Everything is working fine on the production machine, but, on the Development machine, I can see incorrect behaviour. I have started making some development changes on the Development Machine since several months back, and it will be very difficult to find out what caused the problem.

When I click the LinkButton inside the user control, the user control is removed from the parent page, and the OnClick event of the LinkButton is not firing.

I did debug, and found out that after I click on the LinkButton inside the user control, then the Page Load events for the master page and the ASPX page are working fine, and the IsPostBack is set to true, but the OnClick event of the LinkButton is not firing.

Web Forms :: Unable To Set Control's Property After Update / PagePostBack

Sep 22, 2010

I'm trying to programmatically set the property of a control on my Form AFTER I've proccessed an update command using the FormView, but it's not working. In my example below, I have a basic FormView with only a TextBox and Label in its EditItemTemplate. The FormView uses an AccessDataSource. The TextBox is bound to the datasource, but the label is not. What I'm trying to do is update the value in the TextBox (as well as its associated data stored in the database), and then change the Text property of the Label. (*Note: that I using the label purely as an example. The point is I can't see to set any control's property after an update).

I initally thought it had something to do with the "Page.IsPostBack", but even after trying to adjust my code for that, its still not working. I've tried change the Text property during the Page.IsPostBack during Page_Load event. I've tried setting the Label's EnabledViewState property to True and to False. I've tried using the FormView's OnItemUpdating and OnItemUpdated events. I've tried using the DataSource's OnUpdating and OnUpdated events.

How To Access Public Global.asx.cs Property From A Business Class

Feb 2, 2011

I have a property on my Global.asax.cs class that I need to access from a business class, i.e. using HttpContext.Current. How do I do this? Global.asax.cs (in a web project)

public partial class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication
public static ProxyGenerator Generator = new ProxyGenerator();
Business class (in a separate business project)
var generator = ((Sei.Osp.Web.Global)HttpContext.Current.ApplicationInstance)

This obviously doesn't work and I don't want to reference the whole web project in the business project as it will create a circular reference (the business project is already referenced in the web project)

To clarify - the property I'm creating holds an instance of the Castle Dynamic Proxy Generator class. I've read that you shouldn't just create this all over the place. So I thought I'd create it in my Global.asax.cs and then just use that instance wherever I need to create a proxy class (I'm using it to do AOP) Is there a better way of doing this?

Web Forms :: Linkbutton In Dynamically Loaded User Control Does Not Handle Command Event

Feb 27, 2011

I have a user control that is dynamically added to a placeholder control inside an update panel in my main page. The user control has a linkbutton where I try to handle its Command event. The first time the link button is clicked after the user control loads, the form posts back but the command event handler does not execute, although the user control is still on the screen. The second and subsequent times the link button is clicked it works perfectly. When the user control first loads and I mouse over the link button, the browser status bar says: javascript: __doPostBack('ctl08$lbTest',''). After the first click, when I mouseover the link button the browser status bar shows javascript:__doPostBack('ctl07$lbTest',''). Why the changed in id, I can't figure but it must be why it is not hitting the event handler the first time it's clicked. Here is the cs code that loads the user control:

AJAX :: Update Panel & Update Progress In User Control / Multiple Instances On Same Page

Feb 16, 2010

I have a user control, that has an update panel and update progress control in it.

I use this user control in more than 1 location on the same page.... problem is, when ucA posts back, I see the update progress control for both ucA and ucB. I assume this is because it is a user control and the update panel and progress are named the same?

Either way - how do I make it so that the update progress only displays for the proper user control?
