Using The Item Template To Bind Values From 3 Dropdowns Into A Single Value?

I am using an asp.net details view. I added an entry into the details view like so...
<asp:BoundField DataField="DTMON_F" HeaderText="Monday Start:" InsertVisible="False"
ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="DTMON_F" Visible="false" />
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="*Monday Start: " SortExpression="DTMON_F">
<EditItemTemplate>

Now I need to FIRST concatinate the values from the dropdown then bind the data gathered in the edit template form the 3 dropdowns. How might I do that?

I've got this gridview. The gridview uses TemplateFields as the number of fields in the database's table. What I do next is use an ItemTemplate to present the correct column info.
Now, problems rise when the user click's Edit. Since I can only use EditItemTemplate to edit I am resulted with a control in each column. What I really want is to have a single row with no columns so I can easily style the edit mode (having a table with a different layout for example).
Is this possible?

Context: In an ASP.NET application, I need the behavior of the ItemTemplate / EditItemTemplate that the DataList control provides. However, I only need one item in my control, which makes the DataList seems like overkill.
Question: Is there a control in ASP.NET made to store a single item that has the template content behavior of the DataList and DataGrid? Should I use a DataList for only one item?

I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.

I am trying to bind two values "start_time" and "end_time" to a text property of a label that is inside of a gridview template field. Below is the html. I have four fields on my insert form: Server, Farm, Silo and Reason. Farm and Silo populate based on the name of the server that is entered. If I take out the SelectedValue='<%# Bind("value") %> the form doesn't error out, but the fields don't post back to the DB.

I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

I have a gridview which the columns are created programmatically.
When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

If im not doing it programatically, it will be just concatenating eval(). But how can create item template and bind it programmatically?

Currently I update a single item in a database as follows:

This strikes me as inefficient, as (I think) I am pulling out a full DB row to just update a single value. Is there a more efficient query I can use?

I am working with a formview edititemtemplate. Currently in my page load, i have some stuff that would show or hide certain panels based on dropdownlist values. These dropdown values get binded during page load. I need to be able to change the values/dropdowns, without rebinding the old data, and updating the visibility of the panels based on predefined rules.
I have experimented with putting my formview.databind() in page load if isnotpostback, in prerender, in prerender if isnotpostback. I have tried my rules (ex if ddlState.selectedvalue = "DE" then pnlDelaware.visible = "true") in the page load, and the page render. I'm just not sure how to get the stars aligned here. The closest i have come is having the databind in the pageload if notispostback, and the rules in the prerender. However I get an error "dropdownlist has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.

what is the difference between item template and the layout template. in layout template only we have information about the designing? or any thing else. i am unable to understand the item template. In addition to this one i have query in project like this

I stripped this example to make it simple. I have a gridview with a template field. The template field contains two buttons and a label (They must be in the same template field). I want the first button to set the label text to "Win", and the other button to set the label text to "fail". The onrowcommand doesnt seem to be triggered by buttons in a template field. How can I accomplish this?
