How to go about creating a grid/table that can updated at run time by the user and can also be printed and exported to Excel. I have the print function working and I know how to export datagrids to Excel. Im going to attach an example to explain more clearly what Im looking for. Is this possible with a datagrid?
View 5 RepliesI need to do an update a field in database every x minutes. ie: a person login and I need to update a field related to they every X minutes until the value reach a value. Like this, this person start a count event from 1 to 10, they log off the web, but this count must remain countting until reachs 10, 1 by 1 every 7 minutes. I cannot do a SQL Job. Should I User a System.Timer??? Should I record the time and value of the last update, when the person log in I cauculate and update the value??

Currently we are using an UpdatePanel to refresh the whole list on a certain interval so that changes from other users will be propagated the screen. Obviously this isn't very efficient and we don't think it will scale well.What are some other methods for accomplishing this. Is there a specific pattern for addressing this issue?

View 1 RepliesIm trying to make a web chat using ajax control tool kit. There is a script mannager, the update panel and the timer. I inserted the textbox for showing every text that is introduced by the users, the text for writing and the send button are out. It works great but if im writing some text in the exact moment of refreshing time (winch happends a lot because its every 3 sec) it does not let me write correctly cause the textbox kind of blink and you miss a letter. So, wich is the correct method for doing this without lossing the fluidity of the writing.

THE SITUATION
I have a few tables to hold data for billing information. The first table has each dedicated to each location, and a serial number that can be incremented. The concept is to update this data based on location, every time there is a new bill, so may be location A has serial 25 since it is doing well but location B has serial 5.
THE PROBLEM
SO based on this requirement I need to update a table to get the latest serial for a particular location and then use that serial for other tables which will be holding the billing details. The second part is as regular as it can be, but generating a new number, and getting this value is my problem. Since this will be multi user system, so I want some robust solution. I do not know whether I can use a identity field for this purpose or not.
My problem is that I have a grid view that show the data from database.In my gridview i add a column name date .like eg You knw that when we send a scrap to anyone then show time how much time to send a scrap.

Outside of my grid I'd like to use another checkbox for something else, but when the select all checkbox in the grid is selected, it also selects my checkbox outside of the grid. In a ASP.NET application I have a paging RadGrid which shows up textbox in each row. Outside the grid, there is an OK button to save the content of all the textbox. If user changes text in any one or more of the textbox and without clicking on the "OK" button, tries to move to a different page number (of the grid by clicking on the page number), he should be prompted for confirmation of save or cancel the changes.
I am guessing that one can write a Javascript function which would look for any form input control (textbox in my case) and detect changes and If there are changes, would prompt the user. However, I am not sure where I can call this function from?
I am using RadGrid but I guess this should be applicable to GridView as well.
This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again. Background. As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999. If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception. So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.

So I thought about using a time field. I have the field, have the validator in place and then attempted to test the page. It resulted in my least favorite error message "sqlDateTime overflow".
I can think of several workarounds like adding a date or a fixed date to the time field, or converting it to a string. Each of these is problematic.
IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO UPDATE/INSERT TIME FIELDS.
I have a gridview on my page. I have a checkbox in each row of this gridview. For each checkbox in the gridview, I'd like to update my table accordingly, but I don't want them to have to hit a submit button every time they check the checkbox. I want them to check all the boxes they need to and at the end, they should hit one submit button.

I've got a single table, with project information and schedule information. To make the data easier to present, I created a tab control with two panels (a detailsview in each). The first tab is for project info, the second tab is for schedule info (again, all fields in the same table). The problem is, if i change info in both tabs, and then hit the update button, only the data from one tab is added to the table. I think this problem is simple to fix, and boils down to the way I have the page organized, but I can't quite figure it out.
I've boiled my code down to the following conceptualized structure:

When you click the update button, you return to the listview, but with only the information from your current tab saved. How can I get it to update from both detailsviews?
I created an AR statement using crystal report. The main report gets customer info and use customer ID and from and to dates to link to three sub reports. The three subreports are (1) opening balance, (2) list of transactions and (3) aging summary. When I previewed it from VS2005 design mode, everything shown pecfectly however when I run it from VB, only the list of transactions shown and the other two subrreports only showed labels but no data. In addition, I can send the report to printer and no PDF can be generated.
