VS 2008 Looking For Map Program That Saves Jpeg?
Sep 24, 2010
I have an ASP.NET website where we are generating pdf's and web pages using crystal reports. One of the requirements we have is for in the pdf's to have a map of NY state with markers on it that are placed based on GIS Coordinates. For the web page we can do this easily with google maps. if there are any third party map generating solutions that can do this? We currently use map info and google maps, but I dont think either are capable of doing this?

I have recently installed VS2008 standard edition after using VS2008 express and VS2010 Express (on this same laptop) running Windows 7 Build 7100.
On clicking "Debug" the error appears:
"Unable to start program
[URL]
The debugger is not properly installed. Cannot debug the requested type of code. Run setup to install or repair the debugger."
This is for a Web Site - File System originally created in VS2008 express.

I have a strange situation.An ASP.NET button click event causes an object in memory to be updated. The object was loaded from NHibernate via Refresh() during Page_Load, but at no time during the entire page life cycle is Commit() or Flush() called.At some point after the page's OnUnload step, the object and any changes made to it are automatically persisted to the database. I cannot see when or where or why this occurs.

I have a VS2010 project that I want to move back and forth between an x86 and an x64 machine. On the x86 machine, several assemblies are located in Program Files, and the path of the assemblies are shown as c:Program Files...... When I move this project to the x64 machine, the same assemblies are located in C:Program Files (x86).... Is there a way that I can confugure VS2010 so I don't have to manually change the path when I move the project from one machine to another?

I am wondering if it is possible (for as little money as possible) to create a web page that when a user clicks the submit button saves a file as a PDF. it is going to be used as a purchase order creator on a webpage. I have seen a few tutorials around but they seem to use software that requires purchasing a license.

I am having an issue with the DataSet saving the name of the Database that the table or query is ran from in the .xsd inside the DbObjectName even though it is being called from the connectionstring in the web.config file. I have the following line in the connectionstring setting the initial catalog to the DB name:
[Code]....
the line adds the DB name (dbName_Sandbox.dbo.MySQLScript) automatically, how do I stop this and only have dbo.MySQLScript?
Example of someone else having same issue, but they just did a mass find replace, I don't want to do this every time I have to create a DataSet then deploy to the production server.

I am creating the NerdDinner application via the Professional ASP.NET MVC 2 book, and once I got to the ViewModel part (pages 88-91), I noticed none of my data was saving any longer. I discovered several errors and areas of confusion in these pages of the book, which I will list now.
Page 88: When it says to add the DinnerFormViewModel class, it doesn't say what folder to add it to. On page 89, the Inherits example (NerdDinner.Controllers.DinnerFormViewModel) implies it was added to the Controllers folder, but if that were so, the code on page 88 would need to use Models.Dinner instead of just Dinner. No big deal; just put it in Models and change the Inherit statement on page 89 to use NerdDinner.Models.DinnerFormViewModel.
Page 89: At the bottom of the page is some wrong code. Since the properties of Dinner are now one level deeper, all references to m.Title, m.Country, etc, need to be m.Dinner.Title, m.Dinner.Country, etc. The statements above the code are also incorrect ("Notice... we are not changing the names of the input elements... the form elements will still be named...") -- the form elements will actually change from "Title", "Country", etc to "Dinner_Title", "Dinner_Country", etc.
Page 90 (Code Snippet 1-53): This was the one that broke the data saving. Now that the form elements have prefixes, the TryUpdateModel(dinner) needs to pass a prefix, like TryUpdateModel(dinner, "Dinner"). This will append "Dinner_" to the element names so that they can be found on the form.

So on my site, a user has the ability to create an avatar. It's created by the user selecting from several images; there is a base "skin" image, and png's that overlap that image that depict hair, eyes, mouth, etc.
I cannot save the user's avatar to the project's files, so the user's avatar data is stored in the database, and the png's are overlapped on the fly and displayed to the user.
However, I'd like to have the ability for the user to download their avatar as a jpeg by going to a page.
I have this little example set up that is working correctly:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//User has skin1.png, eyes3.png, and mouth8.png
Bitmap bit = new Bitmap(System.Drawing.Image.FromFile(Server.MapPath("/images/skin1.png")), 80, 106);
Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg";
bit.Save(Response.OutputStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg);
}
But, as you can see, I only have this working for a single image. I'd like to create a bitmap from the multiple png's and output a jpeg.

I have an application with a FileUpload control. The code behind saves the uploaded file (which I've stipulated in the code must have a ".jpeg" extension) to the webserver's hard disk. Details about the image, such as its ID, Title, Description and Upload date are saved in an MS SQL Server database. Nothing difficult here.
What I'd like to do instead... is take the uploaded image (which will be a "large", high-quality image), save this as above but ALSO dynamically resize and resample a copy of this image and store a thumbnail of it on the webserver hard drive as well.
I can't find a post which explains how to do this in this forum group. Can anyone point me in the right direction for an answer. I am using Visual Studio 2008, ASP.NET 3.5 and Visual Basic.NET 2008.

I need to write a routine which uploads a largish (2-4 meg) jpg photo and shrink it down to a small size. Adobe image ready does what I need but I need to develop it in my web application. Basically I need to reduce the image file size so it is web friendly.

I need to be able to export PDF's that I am creating to JPEG, so that users can have a screenshot/thumbnail of the end product, which is faster than opening the whole PDF.
I am running this on an ASP.NET website running in Medium Trust in the Rackspace Mosso Cloud.
I have yet to find a library that will either work in Medium trust, or in the case of ABC PDF, which works great locally, wont load in Mosso. Maybe Mosso has a custom trust level?
I know that iTextSharp works on Mosso, but I haven't been able to figure how to "screenshot" a single page of a PDF, or export a page to JPEG.

I have many (>600) EPS files(300 KB - 1 MB) in database. In my ASP.NET application (using ASP.NET 4.0) I need to retrieve them one by one and call a web service which would convert the content to the JPEG file and update the database (JPEGContent column with the JPEG content). However, retrieving the content for 600 of them itself takes too long from the SQL management studio itself (takes 5 minutes for 10 EPS contents).
So I have two issues:-
1) How to get the EPS content ( unfortunately, selecting certain number of content is not an option :-( ):-
Approach 1:-
foreach(var DataRow in DataTable.Rows)
{
// get the Id and byte[] of EPS
// Call the web method to convert EPS content to JPEG
}
or
foreach(var DataRow in DataTable.Rows)
{
// get only the Id of EPS
// Hit database to get the content of EPS
// Call the web method to convert EPS content to JPEG
}
or
Any other approach?
2) Converting EPS to JPEG using a web method for >600 contents. Ofcourse, each call would be a long running operation. Would task parellel library (TPL) be a better way to achieve this?
Also, is doing the entire thing in a SQL CLR function a good idea?
EDIT :- Unfortunately, I have to do this in the ASP.NET application itself and doing that in a separate process like Windows service is not an option.
