Validation Message Still Show Up When An Autopostback Dropdownlist Fires?
Dec 8, 2010
I have a required field validator to validate a dropdownlist. this dropdownlist is an autopostback one, and it's causevalidation property is set to be false.the issue is, when I select the default item, the validation message shows, but the still do the postback. And after the postback, the message disappers.here is the snippet of codes:
Well I have a strange problem.I have a page with 2 DropDownLists on it and a custom web-user-control. The custom web user control has an UpdatePanel within it, and an Ajax Timer control within the UpdatePanel to periodically update a listing of stuff.When I "drop-down" one of the DropDownLists and hover over (not click on) an option while the Timer control within the UpdatePanel asynchronously posts back to the server, the DropDownList "autopostbacks" to the server!
I'm trying to figure out why an asynchronous postback would cause the DropDownList to act as if I selected/clicked on an option so that I can find a way around this issue.Now it's really simple to reproduce this problem. Create a Web User control called "TimerUpdatedListing"...this is the ASPX code markup for the web user control:
I have a long form having bunch of textboxes with validation controls. Submit button is on last of the page. for clicking submit button user needs to scroll to down the page. After clicking submit button, If any validation control fires. user is not knowing until he scroll up again.So I kept a lable next to submit button to show, if any validation controls fires. in code behind I wrote code like this
[Code]....
But control is not coming to here after validition control fires. my question is How should I show this lable visible "True" after validation control fires?
I've got an odd situation with a text box and an autocomplete setup on my page. I'm using a JQuery based autocomplete on a text box that has AutoPostBack="True". This works perfect if I use the keyboard to select an autocomplete item, which then fires Jquery to fill in the text box, and then when I tab out of the box the AutoPostBack fires. If, however, I click on an autocomplete item, my text box loses focus first and the AutoPostBack fires before the Jquery has a chance to change the text in my text box. Is there a way to delay either the PostBack or the Jquery so that they don't fight each other? I'm thinking it may have to be the PostBack that gets changed, since the JQuery would lose it's state on the PostBack
When I place a value in TextBox1 and then click inside TextBox3 (which is there to have a place to go to get out of TextBox1 and TextBox2) the value from TextBox1 remains and is displayed in the MessageBox.Show correctly.
When I pick a value from the drop down calendar extender in TextBox2 for a brief micro-second the value from the calendar displays in TextBox2 and then the MessageBox.Show displays and the value in TextBox2 returns back to the orginally set value. The MessageBox.Show shows the orginally set value.
For TextBox2 if I set AutoPostBack=false then the TextBox2 works correctly and keeps the date picked from the calendar extender but the ontextchanged="TextBox2_TextChanged" never fires.
I have web form in c# asp.net. I have an textbox where the user can enter some part number. When he click on the search button I would like to do some validation of the search text. It is not possible to use the following charachters (- _ / . spaces). When the custom validation found one of these characters I would like to show some error message (It is not possible to use one of these special characters: -, _, /, , . and spaces.). And than I would like to remove the special characters from the search text and execute a method to search.Can I do it with a custom validation like:
<asp:textbox id="TextBox1" runat="server"></asp:textbox><asp:CustomValidator id="CustomValidator1" runat="server" OnServerValidate="TextValidate" ControlToValidate="TextBox1" ErrorMessage="It is not possible to use one of these special characters: -, _, /, , . and spaces."></asp:CustomValidator> protected void TextValidate(object source, ServerValidateEventArgs args){ args.IsValid = (args.Value.Contains(""); string newSearchValue = // remove the special characters -, _, /, , . and spaces. // Run the search method without the special character, but show a error message search(newSearchValue);}
We have option in validation summary to show errors in messagebox. But at the same time errors also showed in the page. Any way to hide this. Because of page space i think to use popup but i dont want to siplay in the summary also.
I've made an ASP.NET web form that uses the standard ASP.NET validation. I'd like to make the error summary show up in a jQuery UI Modal Message as well as below the actual form.Is it possible to execute the script if the validation finds an error?
I'm using Data Annotations to validate my fields, Eventhough field is marked with Required Attribute the DropdownList/ListBox Value doesn't fire up to show they are required. how can I solve this.
I've got a booking form which allows users to pick dates. User clicks FromDate button which activates calendar control, they select date from calendar which then populates a textBox. I have a compare validator which checks that the SelectedDate is greater than the current date, if the SelectedDate is in the past then the validator fires error message. This works as fine, however, when the validator fires it disables the FromDate button so the user is unable to pick another date from the calendar as the focus goes to the TextBox which is being validated - how do I get around this? Here's the code:
Trying to use BlockUI and asp.net validation groups on a page but the validators are not fired.How to check which control fired the event and fire the validation group of that event inside jquery ?Here is the script file.
Sys.Application.add_init(function() { // Allows the div.blockMsg style in CSS to // override BlockUI's defaults. $.blockUI.defaults.css = {}; [code].....
I have on site three textbox controls, RequiredFieldValidator with each textbox and button (without any code). I have problem, when I set autopostback property of textbox controls to true. Regardless, that EnableClientScript sets to true or false, validation error dissapears - or show only few seconds. Helps only set CausesValidation property of textbox to true. And my question - if autopostback is set to true, should I set causesvalidation to true too to make proper validation process? Why it doesn't work?
I have forgotte password page in my application,page have one textbox to insert email address,when user click on submit button if inserted email address (i.e. abc@gmail.com) does not exits in DB it will give custome error message like "Email ID not available".after that suppose user will enter inproper email address (aaa#gmail.com) than client side validation for regular expression will file "Email id not valid",at same both message be on screen,now i want only one message at a time.so please can you help me for same
I have an issue that I've been fighting with for some time. I have a large web form, with update panels and autopostback controls. When the users click "submit", some custom javascript runs which shows validation summaries and turns the fields with errors red, relatively easy, and it works as expected. The problem is that I have a dropdownlist which should autopostback an update panel. It does this perfectly if the user does not click the submit button, and therefore my custom client script dosesn't execute.However, if a user clicks submit, the custom client script executes (turns fields red and shows validation summaries), and then the dropdownlist does NOT autopostback the first time a user changes it's value. If the user changes the dropdownlist's value a second time, then the autopost back occurs and everything functions as it should. I don't understand why the autopostback is disabled for the first click after the javascript executes. Can someone please help me out? The DropDown List looks like:
protected void DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { string strConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SqlServerCstr"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(strConnectionString); myConnection.Open(); string musisim = DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Value; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("select B.HESAP_NO FROM YAZ..MARDATA.S_TEKLIF B WHERE B.MUS_K_ISIM = DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Value", myConnection); Label1.Text = cmd.ExecuteReader().ToString(); myConnection.Close();
i have a customer name as "MUS_K_ISIM" and his number as "HESAP_NO" All i want is, (autopostback is true) automaticly getting label "HESAP_NO" with who has this number "MUS_K_ISIM" in Dropdownlist. How can i do that? Error: Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Have a dropdown list with autopostback set to 'yes' have another dropdown list box that will be populated based on the selection of the first dropdown. It works fine until I put a submit botton on the form. When I do it appears to not do the auto postback until the submit button is pushed. Can you have a submit button on a form that has a dropdown with autopostback active.
When I select the item in 1st dropdownlist, values are fetched from database and want to display in second dropdownlist... but the autopostback is not working for the 1st dropdownlist..
I have an update panel which contains a number of controls. The update panel is triggered by the OnSelectedIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist called: ddlUSCitizenshipStatus. It works as expected when I selected a new item.
However, if I leave ddlUSCitizenshipStatus with the default value, and then click "submit" button on the page, the requiredfieldvalidators say there is an error on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus (which it should, as I never selected a value). So I then choose a value, the error message goes away on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus, however the updatepanel does not refresh. I've debugged this locally and the OnSelectedIndexChanged event for ddlUSCitizenshipStatus does not fire.
If I choose an item in the ddlUSCitizenshipStatus list a second time, the OnSelectedIndexChanged server event fires and the update panel refreshes and works as expected.The issue is, I have to select an item in ddlUSCitizenshipStatus twice, after failed validation, before the updatepanel it's sitting in updates.The submit button on the page looks like this:
[Code]....
If I remove my custom OnClientClick script, making the submit button look like this: [Code]....
The dropdownlist, update panel, and reguiredfieldvalidator all work as expected. However, I need to run that custom "ValidatePage()" script when the button is clicked.Below is what my ValidatePage script looks like. I've been troubleshooting this for more hours than I can count.... I hope someone is able to help me. Please let me know if you can figure out why ddlUSCitizenshipStatus doesn't update the updatepanel until the second click after a failed validation. [Code]....
i am using create user wizard and capturing other information within content template when a new userregisters. Some of the textboxes are binded to required field validators.there is a validation control on the page and ShowMessage box is True.If they dont complete some of the text boxes then the message box pops Up with the error message.It does not however include information errors like "User already exists" or Email address already existsfrom the create user wizard membership UserName and Password Textboxesis it possilbe to hook all of these up so I get one message box with all errors including membership ones?
Can anyone tell me how to re-display a form when validation fails, i'm having a problem in that when i submit an empty form, the whole ascx file is returned with textbox and button etc.
I want to show a confirm dialog when the user selects an item in a DropDownList. If the user presses "Cancel", I want to stop the postback. Here is the function I add to the onchange event:
function imitateConfirmUnload(event) { if (window.onbeforeunload = null) return true;
return confirm("Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?
You have unsaved changes
Press OK to continue or Cancel to stay on the current page."); }
And this is the relevant bit of code in my startup script to add the handler to the event:
[code]...
The problem is that the postback occurs even if the user selects "Cancel". If I move the handler on to the click event, it works. But it feels clunky to me.
Edit
Correction: it doesn't work onclick, because the dialog prevents selection, so when the user selects OK, no change has taken place, and no postback when you want it!
Edit 2
The DropDownList is inside an UpdatePanel so that may affect behavior.
why asp.net does not render a dropdownlist with the autopostback property set to true when using the RenderControl method.
eg
Dim sw As New IO.StringWriter Dim tw As New HtmlTextWriter(sw) Dim table As New Table
[Code]...
my output renders the dropdown list without the onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack(ddl1','')', 0)" that is generated by asp.net when using the dropdownlist normally.
I have an ASP.NET DropDownList with AutoPostBack=true and EnableViewState=false. I have a button on the page that does nothing. If I change the selection in the ddl, it posts back , which is expected. If I click the button, the page posts back and the ddl's SelectedIndexChanged fires. Why does it get fired?
