AJAX :: OnSelectedIndexChange Only Fires On Second Click When Using Custom Page Validation Script

I have an update panel which contains a number of controls. The update panel is triggered by the OnSelectedIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist called: ddlUSCitizenshipStatus. It works as expected when I selected a new item.
However, if I leave ddlUSCitizenshipStatus with the default value, and then click "submit" button on the page, the requiredfieldvalidators say there is an error on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus (which it should, as I never selected a value). So I then choose a value, the error message goes away on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus, however the updatepanel does not refresh. I've debugged this locally and the OnSelectedIndexChanged event for ddlUSCitizenshipStatus does not fire.
If I choose an item in the ddlUSCitizenshipStatus list a second time, the OnSelectedIndexChanged server event fires and the update panel refreshes and works as expected.The issue is, I have to select an item in ddlUSCitizenshipStatus twice, after failed validation, before the updatepanel it's sitting in updates.The submit button on the page looks like this:

If I remove my custom OnClientClick script, making the submit button look like this:

The dropdownlist, update panel, and reguiredfieldvalidator all work as expected. However, I need to run that custom "ValidatePage()" script when the button is clicked.Below is what my ValidatePage script looks like. I've been troubleshooting this for more hours than I can count.... I hope someone is able to help me. Please let me know if you can figure out why ddlUSCitizenshipStatus doesn't update the updatepanel until the second click after a failed validation.

I am having a problem where my button click event is still firing even though my custom server-side validation is set to args.IsValid = false. I am debugging through the code and the validation is definitely being fired before the button click, and args.IsValid is definitely being set to false once the custom validation takes place, but it always makes its way to the button click event afterwards.

I have 2 Textboxes in a Master Page with AutoCompleteExtender. But one of them fires at a time. I have tried putting them into separate webservices but that didn't work. I initially tried just making them a page method but that didn't work at all (My guess is ServicePath can't read .Master instead of .aspx properly)

I have a submit button which fires some code, the problem is I always have to click the button twice before it fires?

I have a script manager and 3 update panels on my page. I am not very familiar with AJAX but I would think anything in the contentTemplate would not cause a postback and page reload, but they all do, here is the outline of the SM and UpPanels

I am using one datalist control for uploading multiple images.I hv used one Asp:FileUplaod Control and one button in one itemtemplate.I am using reqired field validator and regular expression validator for file upload cntrl I am assigning validation group for both of them on ItemDataBound event of my datalist so that each upload cntrl hv same validaton group as required field and regular expression validator.Now what i want to do is - i want to show my error message in validation summary which is right at the top of the page.I want one know how to write javascript that will assign validation group of my control in datalist on which i click ?

I have a modal popup and the CSS prevents anything from being entered on the main page.
However, when I hit enter while the modal popup is displayed, a button on the main page is fired.
It seems to only happen if the button on the main part of the page is pushed down out of view so it is not currently on the screen.
How can I prevent a button on the main page from firing when the user hits enter?

I have a long form having bunch of textboxes with validation controls. Submit button is on last of the page. for clicking submit button user needs to scroll to down the page. After clicking submit button, If any validation control fires. user is not knowing until he scroll up again.So I kept a lable next to submit button to show, if any validation controls fires. in code behind I wrote code like this

I have a required field validator to validate a dropdownlist. this dropdownlist is an autopostback one, and it's causevalidation property is set to be false.the issue is, when I select the default item, the validation message shows, but the still do the postback. I have an aspx page that is wrapped with an UpdatePanel control, users can post comments and delete them later, when the user clicks the delete for the first time it deletes successfully but if he wants to delete another comment, it works only after two clicks on the button.the delete button is inside a web user control that is added dynamically at run time.

I recently created a custom validation control that compares two textboxes and verifies their content. When I use this control in a detailsview I have no problems but, when an updatepanel is added the validation control no longer works.I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .net 3.5 framework.

i have some textbox that i validate with a customvalidator control (only, and must be, server side function) and i have an imagebutton control for submit.I must stop the postback if there are some errors in the validation function.I set the validation property argumets.isvalid = false in the customvalidator function but doesn't work, the postback continue.i have tried to set the imagebutton property postbackurl = "" in the validation function but doesn't work.

I dont know what happened but none of my buttons or linkbuttons causes a postback anymore. I have dragged a few updatepannels on the page but the linkbutton concerned is not enclosed within an update pannel. when I click it there is just no postback happening anymore. I set the debugger at Page_load but...its not reached. I used firebug to analyse the http requests. there is none. its like those are not considered buttons anymore.

I have a LinkButton which fires an OnClick event to update some Labels; however, after the first firing of OnClick, it won't fire again when I click another (or the same) LinkButton which runs the same OnClick event. (It's a list of people, each a LinkButton, and clicking on one brings up their details)
If I leave the page a few minutes, it will work again, almost as if whatever was preventing OnClick firing timed-out. Of course, this won't be any use to the users!
This is my ASP.NET code for the LinkButtons (encapsulated in a DataList):

All the connections work, the data is retrieved, etc, so everything except the OnClick firing works. I've done a search of the internet and the forum, and found this seems to have been a long-standing problem since the first ASP.NET, but there is no solution for ASP.NET 3.5. Does anyone know what causes this, or where I might be going wrong?

OK, been burning up Google and Bing trying to figure out a good solution to this problem, and so far, I feel like I've taken a dive down a rabbit hole - I'm just waiting on the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter to show up. Alice is kinda cute, but unfortunately, she didn't have any good suggestions, either.
Here's the scenario - I have a User Control on a Child Page that has a Master Page assigned. The control is for logging in to the system, so it contains two text boxes, a couple of links to password recovery and registration, and an ImageButton to handle submission of the username/password entered in the text boxes.
Everything works just as expected when the user actually takes the mouse and clicks on the ImageButton control.
Things don't work so well when the user enters a username and password and then presses the Enter/Return key.
While debugging, VS2005 (I know...ugh!) will stop at the LoginButtonClick event, and seems to run the code. Of course, the .Text property of the two input controls was empty, but the Request.Form collection had the values burried within the collection of Keys.
So, a little bit of digging got me to the point where they can login using either the Enter key or clicking on the ImageButton. So, everything seems like it's good, right? Nope, not so fast.
When I enter a username/password combo that's designed to fail authentication, the code will step through setting the error message, etc, but that information never makes it to the point where it's visible to the user.
I'm not seeing any extra postbacks (obvious ones, anyway), but for some reason, when the page goes to redraw when it's in a "failed" state, the notations just simply aren't there.
Below is the code in the User Control that handles the actual authentication routine. All controls, such as the Label with ID "message", are local to the User Control, so I don't think it's a FindControl("message") problem or something similar...just so bizarre that it disappears seeming without reason.

1. cannot be empty.
2. doesn't contain space or other special chracters, which I'll define later.
