View An Item Without Republishing Everything?

I'm getting this error when trying to view a Sitecore item based on a template that contains nothing but one sublayout played in a placeholder in another layout. I can place the sublayout in other sublayouts and view it on another item, and I can preview the item, but when I go to view that item I get this: The layout for the requested document was not found. [blah blah blah]Requested Layout: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} [blah blah blah some more]The only way I've found to view the new item is to do a "Publish Site" from the Publish tab. Is there a way to get that one item working without republishing everything?

I am a little confused when it comes to change the html of a .aspx page and uploading that to the server. Does the website have to be re-published each time a change is made to the .aspx page? I have the box checked that says "Allow this pre-compiled site to be updateable" but when I upload it, it works fine, then I change some html in the .aspx page, save it, then copy that file directly from the source folder over without going through the publish options again. However this time I get errors. Now if I copy over both the .aspx and .aspx.vb files it seems to work. So I suppose I am confused on how this whole publishing thing works and what files I have to copy over. Normally I uncheck all boxes and I don't have to copy over the .aspx.vb pages.

I am using list view to display the the data but i am getting an error like An item placeholder must be specified on ListView 'ListView1'. Specify an item placeholder by setting a control's ID property to "itemPlaceholder". The item placeholder control must also specify runat="server.Even i have specified the itemplaceholder id but no use still same error.

I've got and SqlDataSource bound to a GridView, and I'd like to return the value of one of the fields from the SqlDataSource during GridView.RowCreated (I think). At the same time, one of the fields I'm returning to the GridView has a Null value, which I'm cool with, but Runtime is complaining about it so how can I get around errors relating to Null values in my tables?

I'm using Model-View-Presenter framework. When Loading a page, I'm having trouble setting the selected item that came from the Database.
In view, I know I need:

Then in Presenter:

Im making a Master details web page ASP.NET. I have one aspx page with all the items in a listview, then a link to another page to show the details view, but I dont want to use a asp:detailsview control becasue it generates a table, and I want a more complex layout. I want work each property of the item, but I dont know how. I want to do in LINQ. This is my very bad aprox: I need an orientation of how to get ONLY one item from the LinqDataSource on the page load and not to query the database everytime I need a column. I am using a listview to show multiple labels with Book names and price.I have included a dropdown list in the listview. On index change of dropdown list price of book is changes.
I am using UpdatePanel to avoid post back. I hav placed "Loading.." image in ProgressControl.
But when i use dropdown list to change price then "Loading.." image is shown on all the rows of list view . but im just changing it on first row but image shows on all the rows.

I have a dropdown list within a details view that allows me to set 1 or many categories to a perticular record(in this case a photo). The select command in this case only displays those catetegories that are not already attached to the selected photo.
all works well and as you select a category and add it to the database the category is removed from the dropdown list and is added to a gridview which shows all categories that photo is stored with.
My Problem is that when i delete the category from the gridview the dropdown list does not delete with said deleted item unless i do a "click in URL bar and press enter" to totally refresh the page.....
how to refresh the dropdown list in the details view after the gridview item has been deleted?

Here the problem is user will click addnewrow button to create new row second row , again user is able to select the same item what he selected in first row of gridview. here how to avoid duplication in the second row .
Say i have four PO item
Item1,Item2,Item3,item4
user may select Item1 in first row , after clicking addnewrow button user will get second row
here again user is able to select Item1 from dropdownlist ... how to avoid duplicate selection
coz the dropdownlist is binded from database using sqldatasource n filter based on user selected PO no.
Duplicate Item selection should be removed until all the four item is selected ...

I have a list with 2 sorts of items. Items that have actual values (1,2,3,4 etc) and items that are like group headings so all their values are set to 0. If someone decides to select a group heading - which has a value of 0, is it possible to redirect them to my 'Select an item' item which has a value of ""?
If worse comes to worse, I can just reconstruct the entire list, although if possible I'd like to avoid it.

I have a project that queries a set of times from a database and uses these entries to populate a dropdownlist. Once the page is loaded, the user can select one of the items in the DropDownList. When the "Save" button is clicked, the Selected item value is returned to the [HttpPost] version of the controller action. This item is then stored into session. If the system returns to the page containing the dropdown, I want the saved Value to be selected in the DropDownList. What actually happens is that the DropDownList is always set to be the first item in the list.

I use a ItemDataBound for a repeater.But i use 2 kinds of linq querys to bind it.Some of them has a MerkID, and some doesnt have this item.So its easy i need to do this:

So of course the if selection doesnt work, but how can i do that? I already tryed this:
DataRowView drv = (DataRowView)e.Item.DataItem; if (drv.Row.Table.Columns.Contains("MerkID"))
But that doenst work because he cant convert it to a datarowview because its a linq class.So what to do? Right now i use a try and catch, but there are better solutions i guess...

How can I get current viewed itemindex of a repeater item template, have tried a few stuffs i got from google search, but it seems not to work.
I have items like:
1 text link1
2 text link2
3 text link3
4 text link4
where 1, 2, 3, 4 are the itemindex, i want to be able to get 1 if text link1 is clicked, or 2 if text link two is clicked etc.
